The Who

Genre: Concert Films

Price: $ 9.99

Release Date: January 1, 2012

Filmed at The Summit in Houston, Texas on 20 November 1975, this is a typically incendiary live performance by The Who at the start of the US leg of their tour in support of The Who’s By Numbers album which had been released earlier that year. The original video footage has been cleaned and the sound remixed by longtime Who collaborator Jon Astley but the show still retains a rawness that encapsulates the energy of The Who’s performance. The set list stretches across the band’s career from classic early singles such as My Generation and Substitute through an extensive Tommy section and up to tracks from the then newly released By Numbers.

Get ready to mosh in the privacy of your own home, because multiple Grammy-nominated, Platinum-selling thrash masters ANTHRAX have announced the release of “Chile On Hell”! “Chile On Hell” was filmed at the Teatro Caupolican in Santiago, Chile on May 10, 2013, and features Anthrax – Joey Belladonna/vocals, Scott Ian/guitar, Charlie Benante/drums, Frank Bello/bass and Jon Donais/lead guitar. The band performed an extended set that featured songs from Anthrax’s entire catalogue – all the fan-favorites including “I Am The Law," “Indians,” “Madhouse,” “Caught In A Mosh,” “The Devil You Know," and “I’m Alive”. "Santiago was the perfect place to film the show for this,” said Anthrax’s Charlie Benante. "When we’d played there in the past, we’d finish our set, play our encore and go back to the dressing room, but every time, the fans would continue to scream and cheer and clap. I mean, they went on and on, they wouldn’t stop. One time Scott and I walked out to the side of the stage just to watch what was going on in the audience, it was intense. Why wouldn’t we want to film a DVD in front of an audience like that?" The band was in the home stretch of a three-plus-year campaign to record and support Worship Music and the Anthems EP, a period of time that was loaded with high points: the return of “classic era” vocalist Joey Belladonna, Worship Music making the band’s highest chart debut in two decades, the series of Big Four shows – Anthrax, Slayer and Metallica, the three bands that wrote the speed and thrash metal road map – that culminated in the September 2011 Big Four spectacular at Yankee Stadium in the band’s home town of New York, “Anthrax Day” declared in the Bronx, becoming the first metal band to have its music (“Got The Time”) played on Mars, two Grammy nominations, and sold out shows in every corner of the globe – “We wanted to finish on a high note".

Inni is Sigur Rós' second live film following 2007's tour documentary Heima. Whereas that film positioned the group in the context of their Icelandic homeland, providing geographical, social and historical perspectives on their music, Inni focuses purely on the band's performance, and stands as a stark counterpoint to Heima's kaleidoscopic richness. Where Heima was lush and colorfully expansive, Inni is spare and near-monochromatic in its tunnel vision. Filmed in a manner that invites both intimacy and claustrophobia, Inni cocoons the viewer in a one-on-one relationship with the band, eschewing the audience for closeness, depicting how it feels for both band and fan to experience Sigur Rós live.

Desperate to escape the boundaries of reality, Margaretha reinvented herself as the exotic, Javanese princess Mata Hari. John Williams has become an irreplaceable figure in American popular culture. He ranks as the best-known creator of movie music in Hollywood history, with themes and scores that are instantly recognizable to listeners around the world.Perhaps none of Williams’ music is more famous than that of Star Wars (1977),which won the composer his third Academy Award. Director George Lucas later recalled: “About 90 percent of the Star Wars films are music. It’s done in a very old-fashioned style, almost like silent films, so the music kind of tells the story. A lot of the emotional content is carried through the music as much as by the scenes themselves. "The Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme)",[2] is a musical theme present in the Star Wars franchise. It was composed by John Williams for the film Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and is one of the best known symphonic movie themes.

“Nirvana headlining at Reading in 1992 was something you had to see, and if you didn’t see it then it was something you pretended you saw.” –Kerrang (October 2003) “The staggering energy and intensity radiating from the stage never let up… Cobain’s ravaged pop songs coming off like some dream marriage of the Sex Pistols and the Beatles, borne on bracing waves of distorted guitar noise.” –Rolling Stone (October 29, 1992) Ranked #1 in Kerrang Magazine’s “100 Gigs That Shook The World” and voted as “Nirvana’s #1 Greatest Moment” by fans in an NME poll, Nirvana’s historic August 30, 1992 stands as a watershed moment in the history of rock. While the show’s centerpiece was a performance of nearly the entire Nevermind tracklist, also noteworthy were early performances of three as yet unrecorded songs which wouldn’t be released until 2 years later on In Utero: "All Apologies,” “Dumb,” and in its first ever public performance, “Tourettes." The career-spanning setlist also reached back to the band’s 1989 Sub Pop debut album, Bleach, for “Blew,” “About A Girl,” “School,” “Negative Creep” and first single “Love Buzz,” and even further back to the mid-‘80s for “Spank Thru.” Other songs from the Reading set would appear in studio form on the Incesticide compilation later in the year: “Aneurysm,” “Been A Son” and “Sliver.” Additionally, the band played a pair of beloved covers by two bands that helped shape the formative Nirvana sound– “The Money Will Roll Right In” by Fang and “D-7” by The Wipers. In the heart of the breathtaking Bavarian Alps lies the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle, proudly situated in a land of enchantment known for its magical lakes, rugged mountains and historic castles. Conceived and created by Sarah along with Anthony Van Laast (Mamma Mia, Beauty and the Beast), and Frank Peterson (Enigma), this cinematic performance is a unique hybrid of a musical film and a large-scale concert production. The presentation is staged in two Acts, embracing some of Sarah’s most beloved works as well as songs from Sarah’s new album HYMN, performed for the very first time; the intoxicating Sky And Sand, Miracle – the epic collaboration with Japanese superstar, Yoshiki – and the tour de force that is Sogni, on which Sarah is joined by French tenor Vincent Niclo. And when the beautiful Princess Eboli (Anna Smirnova) discovers her love for Don Carlo is not returned, her revenge terribly backfires. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met orchestra and chorus.

Cult musician and artist Terry Allen is revered by the world’s creative elite, but is far from a household name. Fringe even in the fringe world of artists, musicians, and renegades of the 70’s, Terry’s voice is perhaps just now reaching the audience it deserves. ‘Everything For All Reasons’ sheds a comprehensive light on his body of work and life, and is punctuated with songs from a star studded concert at Austin’s Paramount Theater. Almost the antithesis of the Rock N Roll cliché, Allen shares the stage with his wife of 55 years, two sons, and life-long friends. The film includes behind-the-scenes rehearsals and interviews with legendary musicians that collaborate and have been influenced by Terry -David Byrne (Talking Heads), Joe Ely (Flatlanders), Lloyd Maines, Charlie Sexton (Bob Dylan), and Ryan Bingham. All pieced together to answer the question who the Hell is Terry Allen, and why haven’t you heard of him?

On July 27, 1986, Queen performed the largest-ever stadium concert at the Népstadion in Budapest in front of 80,000 ecstatic fans. The concert was part of the famed Magic Tour, which was the last time the band toured with lead singer Freddie Mercury. Now, this original concert film has been remastered in high definition and features many of Queen's favorite tracks—"Bohemian Rhapsody," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "I Want To Break Free" and "We Are The Champions." With three years to go before the fall of the Berlin Wall, this was the first Western rock concert performed in a stadium behind the then Iron Curtain. It was of such significance to the Hungarian authorities and film industry that a group of the country's top film cameramen and technicians were brought together to film it for posterity.

'TIME MACHINE 2011: Live In Cleveland' is an evening with Rush performing their classic hits and features the legendary 'Moving Pictures' album, performed live in its entirety. Released in 1981, 'Moving Pictures' is their most successful album, certified 4x Platinum, and features some of the band's most well known songs and perennial radio favorites, including “Tom Sawyer,” “Limelight” and the Grammy®-nominated instrumental “YYZ.” Captured in April, 2011 in Cleveland during the renowned trio’s extensive world tour, 'TIME MACHINE 2011: Live In Cleveland' marks the band’s first live concert filmed in the United States. The choice to record in Cleveland was a deliberate nod of gratitude to the first city to support Rush on its airwaves, as former WMMS DJ Donna Halper is widely credited for helping break the band in 1974 by spinning “Working Man.” The reinterpreted live version of “Working Man” was the encore closer on the Time Machine tour and is included on this release. In addition to the 26-song concert set, Rush’s notorious concept tour videos are included: The first short film, entitled “The ‘Real’ History of Rush Episode No. 2 ‘Don’t Be Rash,’” and the opening second set video, "The ‘Real’ History of Rush Episode No. 17 ‘…and Rock and Roll is My Name.'"

Between 1977 and 1980 Chic produced some of the most successful and memorable music of the disco era. Their sublime blend of soul, funk and disco took a genre not best remembered for musical innovation and longevity to new heights. Phenomenally-successful, their biggest single, "Le Freak" topped the US charts in 1978 for an amazing five weeks, selling over four million copies and becoming Atlantic Records' biggest-ever single. Chic's creative nucleus was always the writer/musician partnership of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. They subsequently both enjoyed considerable success as producers, working with such pop legends as David Bowie, Diana Ross, Mick Jagger and Madonna. One of the duo’s first production success stories was the girl group Sister Sledge. Teaming up with Rodgers and Nile in 1979, they produced two of the best-selling anthems of the disco era, "We Are Family" and "He’s The Greatest Dancer". Recorded in April 1996 at Tokyo’s famed Budokan Stadium, this was destined to be the group's last performance, since sadly Bernard Edwards died shortly afterwards. The group is joined by Sister Sledge for stellar performances of their two biggest hits. Guns 'n' Roses guitarist Slash makes a guest appearance and solos on "Le Freak." Boasting top quality sound, the concert features superb, extended versions of their greatest hits, including "Le Freak", "Dance, Dance, Dance", "I Want Your Love" and "Good Times."

At 8pm on Sunday 9th July 1978 in the rocket, a small smokey pub in Crawley Sussex, The Cure performed their very first show. Around 65 people joined in the fun. At 8pm on Saturday 7th July 2018 in Hyde park, a big green space in London, The Cure took to the stage to celebrate 40 years of playing live. Around 65,000 people joined in the fun. To capture this second historic event in all its technicolour glory, the band turned to the man responsible for most of The Cure’s iconic videos, as well as their award winning 1986 film ‘in orange’ – long-time collaborator and maverick director Tim Pope. The performance Tim Pope filmed that perfect summer evening was one of the most memorable concerts of The Cure’s long career; as giant sized screens danced, glitched and fizzled with images of raging seas, shimmering webs and broken hearts, The Cure flowed, floated, pushed, pounded and powered their way through a 29 song 135 minute spectacular, on a spellbinding trip through four decades of alternative popular music. Says pope: “I went to rehearsals in a very cramped studio just the day before the show, and sat in the group’s midst as they ran through the songs. I knew as the set list unfolded that the only way to show people the real cure was to capture not only the grand, epic dimension of their stage show, but also the close, intimate side of this band simply making music together. Never has Robert sung so well, nor has the cure played more passionately, more tightly, more powerfully.” As the film was edited together across the ensuing months, smith and pope working closely together, Cure FOH sound man Paul cornett, who had mixed the show live on the night, was brought in to help Robert create the accompanying soundscape. Mixing took place at Brighton electric studios in late 2018, final tweaks to the theatrical 5.1 audio being carried out at abbey road studios in early 2019. As with the 4k visuals pope had snared with his cameras, the aim was to create a totally immersive experience for cinema-goers. Looking back near the end of the show, Robert says to the audience “if you’d asked me in the rocket what I’d be doing in 40 years, I would have got the answer very wrong… but it’s thanks to everyone around me, and to you all as well that I’m still here… so thank you very much! It’s been a good four decades… here’s to the next one!” In march 2019 smith and the rest of The Cure – Simon Gallup, Jason Cooper, Roger O’Donnell and reeves Gabrels – were inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame, announcing exciting news later that same night about the progress of the group’s first new studio album in more than a decade. “Anniversary 1978-2018” was and is The Cure drawing a quite remarkable line between their past and their future.

The blazing title role of Bellini’s Norma has been a star-making vehicle for some of opera’s most beloved sopranos, so when Sondra Radvanovsky first took on the part at the Met in 2013, it marked a new chapter of her career. She returned four years later to reprise her riveting portrayal, this time opening the 2017–18 season in an evocative new production by Sir David McVicar. Captured live in HD, her performance is nothing less than a tour-de-force, combining dramatic commitment with true bel canto singing—Radvanovsky balances the role’s powerful intensity with moments of delicate lyricism. As Adalgisa, the young priestess torn between love and duty, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato delivers an interpretation imbued with great emotional nuance. Tenor Joseph Calleja is the aggressive Roman proconsul Pollione, with Matthew Rose as Norma’s father, the warrior Oroveso. Leading the Met Orchestra and Chorus, maestro Carlo Rizzi draws out the vibrant color of Bellini’s masterful score.

The 2006 show at Montreux has the band playing a pretty tight show with all the classics and a generous portion of the latest disc, Rapture of the Deep. Ian Paice makes a great save after a stick drop, and has a great night throughout along with Glover, Morse, and Airey. However, it was not the best night for Ian Gillan. He sounds quite hoarse and is often out of key. The encores are pretty much ruined by the appearance of producer Michael Bradford on this very annoying wah-wah guitar. Joining the stage with Bradford was a bearded man I have never seen or heard of before singing along with Gillan very sloppily. It was very cool to see Claude Nobs onstage with the band playing some harmonica, but Bradford and this bearded guy did the band no favours whatsover by being there – especially during the encores.

An intellectual miracle, magical sonorities, an incredible sense of risk: this is what comes to mind when seeing Martha Argerich. The one that has been nicknamed the "Lioness of piano" has lost nothing of her audacity, her spiritedness and her fiery temperament. Known for her heightened sense of friendship, Martha Argerich has been playing for a long time alongside Stephen Kovacevitch or Mischa Maisky. By Kovacevitch's side, with four hands or on two pianos, she rediscovers Mozart's innocence and candor. With a secret understanding and sometimes gently mocking each other, both players are like children when playing Mozart. Micha Maisky's intense lyrical bow brings out a more impetuous and authoritarian Martha Argerich. Programme: Johann Sebastian Bach Partita No. 2 in C Minor, BWV 826 – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Andante and five variations for four hands Piano in G Major, K. 501 – Edvard Grieg Sonata for Cello and Piano in A Minor, Op. 36

Act I – Scene 1: The market place: The scene is in Verona. Romeo, son of Montague, tries unsuccessfully to declare his love for Rosaline and is consoled by his friends Mercutio and Benvolio. As day breaks and the townspeople meet in the market place, a quarrel develops between Tybalt, a nephew of Capulet, and Romeo and his friends. The Capulets and Montagues are sworn enemies and a fight soon begins. The Lords Montague and Capulet join in the fray, which is stopped by the appearance of the Prince of Verona who commands the families to end their feud. Scene 2: Juliet’s ante-room in the Capulets’ house: Juliet, playing with her nurse, is interrupted by her parents Lord and Lady Capulet. They present her to Paris, a wealthy young nobleman who has asked for her hand in marriage. Scene 3: Outside the Capulets’ house: Guests arrive for a ball at the Capulets’ house. Romeo, Mercutio and Benvolio, disguised in masks, decide to go in pursuit of Rosaline. Scene 4: The ballroom: Romeo and his friends arrive at the height of the festivities. The guests watch Juliet dance. Mercutio, seeing that Romeo is entranced by her, dances to distract attention from him. Tybalt recognises Romeo and orders him to leave, but Capulet intervenes and welcomes him as a guest in his house. Scene 5: Outside the Capulets’ house: As the guests leave the ball, Capulet restrains Tybalt from pursuing Romeo. Scene 6: Juliet’s balcony: Unable to sleep, Juliet comes out onto her balcony and is thinking of Romeo, when suddenly he appears in the garden. They confess their love for each other. Act 2 – Scene 1: The market place: Romeo can think only of Juliet and, as awedding procession passes, he dreams of the day when he will marry her. In the meantime Juliet’s nurse pushes her way through the crowds in search of Romeo to give him a letter from Juliet. He reads that Juliet has consented to be his wife. Scene 2: The chapel: The lovers are secretly married by Friar Laurence, who hopes that their union will end the strite between the Montagues and Capulets. Scene 3: The market place: Interrupting the revelry, Tybalt fights with Mercutio and kills him. Romeo avenges the death of his friend, and is exiled. Act 3 – Scene 1: The bedroom: At dawn next morning the household is stirring and Romeo must go. He embraces Juliet and leaves as her parents enter with Paris. Juliet refuses to marry Paris, and hurt by her rebuff he leaves. Juliet’s parents are angry and threaten to disown her. Juliet rushes to see Friar Laurence. Scene 2: The chapel: She falls at Friar Laurence’s feet and begs for his help. He gives her a phial of sleeping potion which will make her fall into a death-like sleep. Her parents, believing her to be dead, will bury her in the family tomb. Meanwhile Romeo, warned by Friar Laurence, will return under cover of darkness and take her away from Verona. Scene 3: The bedroom: That evening Juliet agrees to marry Paris, but next morning, when her parents arrive with him, they find her apparently lifeless on the bed. Scene 4: The Capulet family crypt: Romeo, failing to receive Friar Laurence’s message, returns to Verona stunned by grief at the news of Juliet’s death. Disguised as a monk, he enters the crypt, and finding Paris by Juliet’s body, kills him. Believing Juliet to be dead, Romeo drinks a phial of poison. Juliet awakes and, finding Romeo dead, stabs herself.

Release Date: August 29, 2014

The Black Keys' new concert DVD, Live at the Crystal Ballroom, reflects the no-frills genius of the drums-and-guitar duo's studio sound: It's a refreshingly straightforward video document of their April 4, 2008 sold-out gig at Portland, Oregon's Crystal Ballroom, featuring seventeen songs culled from all five of the pair's albums. Director Lance Bangs – who has made videos for the Arcade Fire, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sonic Youth as well as directing R.E.M.'s Road Movie – keeps his small camera crew focused on the stage, getting up close and sweaty with guitarist-singer Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. Occasionally, he'll pull back to acknowledge the head-bobbing crowd pressed close to the stage, their hands reaching out to Auerbach. There are no visual pyrotechnics, no elaborate editing, no backstage cutaways, yet the show is riveting from start to finish and the feel of the music in that room is nothing less than triumphant.

You know, for over 17 years, Country’s Family Reunion TV show and Larry’s Country Diner have been asking Country Legends to spend time together, tell their stories and sing their biggest songs. Everyone shares the space together and it’s a wonderful experience. Well, for some of our artists, they’ve been on our shows so many times it’s hard to remember all the various stories and songs they’ve told and sung. So, we thought it high time that we celebrate some INDIVIDUAL artists with their own TRIBUTE shows.
