Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti at his daily coronavirus press briefing on Thursday night unveiled a partnership with clothing brand Reformation to organize the city’s garment manufacturers to make protective masks.
The L.A. Protects initiative will leverage the city’s manufacturing facilities and garment workers not to make the medical-grade N95 masks so desperately needed by health-care workers, but rather protective masks for other essential workers on the front lines, including grocery clerks and food delivery people.
Reformation has been deputized to recruit and organize other L.A. garment and apparel producers to supply materials and support manufacturing the protective equipment at scale. It will lend expertise in garment and apparel production, providing quality assurance checks and building out funding and support for the initiative through sales to essential businesses.
The goal is to produce five million masks, Garcetti said, adding that manufacturers interested in participating, and businesses in need of protective masks, can go to laprotects.org for more information. The web site has also open-sourced specs on how to make the masks and safety information for manufacturing.
“Angelenos step up and we’re so grateful to Reformation,” he added, noting that the initiative will help get some people back to work, including many lower-income immigrants in
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to grow and businesses worldwide are being hit, it is the smaller, independent brands and retailers that often are suffering the most.
WWD asked designers and small stores that support them how they are protecting themselves during this unprecedented time, and how they are looking ahead to the coming months. While some have found various ways to cope, others are energized to assist where needed, creating face masks or donating to charities. One common thread is an emphasis on community — protecting employees and factory workers while finding ways to engage digitally.
Here, part one on how independent brands are charging on.

I’ve been touched very closely by COVID-19. My grandpa died last Friday because of it and my biggest priority is the health and well-being of my family at home and at work, because my team is my family, too. Nothing else matters right now, it’s not a matter of results, numbers, sales.…This is bigger than us and it’s staying home and saving lives. It is an especially difficult time for independent designers and with that we have had to put a pause on some future projects while, as I said, ensuring our
Carly is a sultry teen but she sure knows how to turn heads in her college uniform! Those black pantyhose are just one of the hundreds of pairs of nylons that you will get to check out over at Only Opaques. If nylons are your [[fetish|thing]] then you definitely don’t want to miss out on the girls over at Only Opaques as they show off in their newest stockings, pantyhose and leggings because they love nylons just as much as you do! Whether you like them [[dark|pure]] black or bright pink the girls at Only Opaques are ready to keep you entertained with their little strip teases!
Take a look at these pictures of Carly as she starts off [[teasing|showing off]] in her college uniform. That short skirt doesn’t even cover her plump round ass but she doesn’t seem to care as she bends over and flashes her juicy ass in her [[sheer|black]] pantyhose anyway! She doesn’t even hesitate to pull down those pantyhose and show off her plump round ass in her cute pantyhose! Carly doesn’t stop teasing there though and soon she has unbuttoned her shirt and is flashing her plump [[tits|titties]] underneath her tight white blouse.
Without a doubt there were many, many beautiful [[women|babes]] at Only Tease this year. One of my favorites was this brunette [[bombshell|vixen]] named Emma T and I think you’ll understand why after you see these [[pictures|photos]] of Emma T teasing out of an incredibly [[sexy|erotic[[ outfit. She’s wearing a skin tight black top and black leather mini skirt, but it gets even better as her clothes come off!
Click here to visit Only Tease. There you can see the photos of Emma teasing out of her clothes and revealing all of her amazing [[body|figure]]. It’s not long before she’s posing in just her red satin panties and sheer black stockings. It’s one of the most amazing sights that I’ve seen at Only Tease this year. I don’t know how they’ll top it in 2010.

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted people across the globe in an unprecedented way. The virus continues to spread rapidly worldwide — the current count is 425,600 cases and 19,301 deaths globally as of March 25 — and even the British royal family hasn’t been exempt from its effect. Wednesday’s news that Prince Charles has contracted COVID-19 was the latest update in how the pandemic has impacted the monarchy.
The royal family began making changes to their daily schedules in early March as COVID-19 became a more serious public health crisis. Queen Elizabeth II, for one, left Buckingham Palace for Windsor Castle a week earlier than she initially planned for the Easter holiday. She is now said to be staying at the castle with the ailing Prince Philip well beyond the Easter holiday.

The youngest royals, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, have also been impacted by COVID-19, as their school has shut down, like many others have been globally.
In the U.K., there are roughly 8,000 COVID-19 cases and there have been about 422 deaths, as of March 25.
Here, WWD breaks down the ways the royal family has reacted to and been impacted by
Before Christmas, when no one had yet heard of the deadly coronavirus that would change our lives overnight, Phillip Lim wanted to push reset. Approaching his brand’s 15th anniversary, Lim found himself dealing with issues hardly unique to him — that the pace of fashion, its relentless speed and mind-set of more, had become negative forces in the culture and a drain on our humanity. “What are we doing? Why are we just running this race just to keep up? And what is the goal, what is the finish line?” he shared his soul-searching questions with WWD. Taking a step back “to allow myself the time to think about the act of joyful creation again, not just the hustle,” Lim decided to forego a runway show and instead threw a spirited come-one/come-all house party at his New York store.
Lim acknowledged that shows are expensive to stage and business was already challenged. Now, he and his partner, 3.1 Phillip Lim chief executive officer Wen Zhou, are determined to live their values, which Lim summed up as “humanity first.” But, he acknowledged, looking after employee needs as the industry implodes presents “a Catch 22 — we don’t have a source of income.”
Laura P is a cute brunette who just loves to dress up for Halloween especially when it means that she gets to wear sexy nylons! Laura isn’t the only cute [[babe|teen]] who is dressing up for Halloween over at Only Opaques though and if you take a look over that way today you’ll get to see all of the girls in their Halloween costumes along with their [[silky|sheer]] pantyhose and stockings. It doesn’t get any better than that except for the fact that these girls just can’t wait to strip off out of their costumes and show off in nothing but their nylons just for you!
Take a look at these pictures of Laura P as she starts off showing off in her [[cute|short]] red devil dress with her cute devil horns but what really makes this outfit is those [[cute|sexy]] sheer pantyhose and her [[sweet|delicious]] red high heels. Laura gives a naughty smile and bends over to flash a shot of her tasty round ass in those tiny thong panties. Soon Laura [[strips|slips]] right out of her dress and shows off in her cute red bra and panties and those sheer black stockings!

What is the story behind your handbag? Parker Clay, an emerging leather goods company, designs its products in California and manufactures them in Ethiopia—and unlike most brands, the story of how the bags get made means everything to Parker Clay.
Over 130 employees work at its Ethiopian factory, and 96 of them are women. Of these women, 32 were found through Parker Clay’s partnership with the non-profit Christian women’s rights organization Ellilta—Women at Risk. The organization’s goal is to bring women out of prostitution—which is both legal and widespread in Ethiopia—and find them skills training and employment in safe, sustainable trade industries, like leather goods.
Parker Clay’s founders, Ian and Brittany Bentley, wanted to create such an environment for Ethiopian women. Its factory in Addis Ababa gives its artisans higher wages and more benefits, including laundry facilities, access to transportation, vacation time, and pension, pursuing the company’s goal of combining human rights advocacy with sustainable, superior goods.
Each of Parker Clay’s products—handbags, totes, wallets, backpacks, etc.—is hand-woven on a loom with weaving practices unique to Ethiopian culture. Parker Clay’s products support local cattle farmers and also incorporate all-natural vegetable dyes, which are better for the environment. They’re designed, as the best leather goods are, to be timeless, to age with style.
By visiting its store online, you can support Parker Clay’s mission to provide women working in prostitution with artisan jobs. In 2020, the brand plans to employ over 100 more Ethiopian women from backgrounds of prostitution.
Parker Clay’s ongoing promotion, We Go Together, is taking a “pay it forward” approach. Donors can support the brand and, in exchange, receive two gift cards of equal value, as well as a sizable discount. For example, those who donate $ 100 will receive two $ 100 gift cards—one in September, one next January—as well as a 40 percent discount code toward your next purchase. Read about Parker Clay’s mission for yourself and consider donating at its website.
PLEIN’S GOAL: Philipp Plein is in for a new athletic gig as the official off-field partner of the Club Atlético de Madrid soccer team, also known as Atlético Madrid.
On Tuesday the luxury fashion brand revealed it has inked a four-season tie-up with the club, whose players and management will be wearing formal off-field Philipp Plein uniforms until the 2022-2023 season.
In particular, the uniforms include a black wool coat with a contrasting red undercollar, and a single-breasted black suit adorned with a Philipp Plein metallic logo embroidered above the blazer’s flap pocket. A logo embellishment also appears on the white shirts worn underneath.
This is not the first sports-related deal for Plein, which previously inked several partnerships, such as with A.C. Monza, A.S. Roma and A.S. Monaco soccer teams and with Lugano’s Hockey Club. Billionaire, also under the Philipp Plein Group umbrella, announced a sponsorship of the Monte Carlo Polo Club during the men’s fall 2019 show. Group ambassadors include Nico Hulkenberg and Jorge Lorenzo, as well as Philadelphia Eagles receiver Braxton Miller, to name a few.
Founded in 1903, the Atlético Madrid, which plays in the top division of Spanish soccer, such as Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Primera División, commonly known
By now, Sarah Burton could probably do a book about the traditional crafts of the British Isles. From the English Cluny lace on her wedding gown for Kate Middleton to the crinkled Irish “beetled” linen for spring 2020, she’s used her encyclopedic knowledge to create clothes with couture-like workmanship.
This season’s research took her to Wales, where she soaked up the romantic poetry of Dylan Thomas, Welsh national costumes, the healing power of the color red and the folk art traditions of graphic quilts and hand-carved love spoons.
All of it made its way into this sweetheart of a collection, full of high-low hems, blanket check layers, graphic tailoring and enough heraldic beading, pink quilting and red heart motifs to evoke Alice’s tempestuous queen. (Could another Disney fashion collaboration be in the works?)
Indeed, this was a another love letter to handcraft, no more so than the spectacular multicolored quilted coat with figurative motifs of dove, horse and panther. A similar design was stitched over 10 years from 1842 by master tailor James Williams, on display at the National Museum of Wales. Like his, Burton’s was made from salvaged materials — but from past McQueen collections. It was a beauty. (There was also
Daniella Kallmeyer is exactly what most people don’t think of when they think of “the fashion industry.” Not the woman herself. Her look is casual-urbane, and her demeanor, a combination of mindful au courant cool and old-school gracious. Kallmeyer’s business, which bears her surname, is the outlier, in perception if not in fact — tiny and off the grid of major name-recognition. It takes the notion of “small business” to its most extreme manifestation. She is self-financed, runs the company and designs the clothes solo. And by the way, she can make an arty table chic enough to anchor a small, artfully minimalist retail outpost. After being forced to lay off half of her staff last week, Kallmeyer now has an employee roster of one, apart from herself.
Kallmeyer launched her company 10 years ago. Developing her aesthetic has been a process, which she described during a Fall 2020 appointment as seeking to “explore the gender binary and breaking down the typical idea of femininity,” with a focus on polished but relaxed tailoring. Early on she found favor in Japan. That country accounted for the lion’s share of Kallmeyer’s business, until recently. Long skeptical about committing to physical retail, in June,

California-based ath-leisure label Legends has launched its Mamba x Legends collaboration collection, a partnership between the brand and Mamba & Mambacita Sports Academy in honor of Kobe and Gianna Bryant.
The 10-piece collection is comprised of sportswear and apparel such as T-shirts, hoodies and athletic shorts and socks, all bearing the Legends and Mamba & Mambacita Sports Academy logos and ranging in price from $ 20 to $ 105.
Legends has been the official apparel provider for Mamba & Mambacita Sports Academy since the program’s launch in 2018. Previously, only members and athletes affiliated with the program received the apparel, but this launch, which is a limited release of 1,000 units in total, is the first time the branded apparel is available to the public.
The brand decided to launch now to boost morale for the global basketball community that was deeply impacted by death of the Bryants and their fellow passengers from the helicopter accident in January, as well as the suspension of the NBA season due to the coronavirus. The collection is intended to celebrate the Bryants’ lives, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Mamba & Mambacita Sports Academy.
Susana Clayton worked loose, masculine tailoring into a modern and sleekly feminine lineup, mostly in camel, gray and a range of ruddy browns. She threw in the season’s musts — shearling and fringes — with measure, adding a bit of argyle as well. The diamond shapes were elongated — molded to the Joseph aesthetic — appearing on a long sweater, a widely pleated skirt that fell mid-calf and a humongous, knit scarf.
WWD Critique: A year into the job, Clayton has proved to be a natural fit for Joseph, simplifying the brand message with uncluttered cuts and using layering to add depth.
Many of the world’s fashion designers and brands have had to halt everyday operations due to the coronavirus pandemic — but now, several firms are reallocating resources to fight the virus’ spread.
As COVID-19 cases have sharply increased, affecting 341,500 people and causing 15,187 deaths globally as of March 23, so too has the need for essential resources, such as masks, hospital gowns and hand sanitizer.
Fashion designers including Christian Siriano, Brandon Maxwell and Michael Costello are coming in to help fill that gap, mobilizing their teams to produce supplies needed by health-care workers and COVID-19 patients.
Larger companies, such as LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Kering, L’Oréal and Coty are also pitching in, having their factories produce hand sanitizer to distribute free of charge to health authorities.
Here, WWD compiles the ways that fashion designers and brands are pitching in to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brandon Maxwell’s team is researching the appropriate medical textiles to make gowns for hospital doctors and nurses treating COVID-19 patients. He also aims to create medical grade masks and gloves as more information on manufacturing these supplies becomes available.
“It is important for us to come together now not only for each other, but most importantly for the communities

America has entered a period of self-isolation and stretch pants, and retailers across the country are reporting a surge in sweatpants sales during imposed lockdowns to curb the coronavirus’ spread.
While stores say that COVID-19 induced anxiety and dim economic forecasts have caused a steep drop-off in overall fashion sales, sweatpants appear to be an exception — their popularity spiking at a rate that may indicate they are the biggest (and perhaps only) trend in fashion right now.
With restaurants and nonessential stores closed by mandate and most professionals working from home, fashion status symbols have been rendered nearly useless. Consumers have few places to go that require any degree of style or savoir-faire, and in turn have begun dressing for comfort.
“There is a real shift in values within this moment,” said Scott Sternberg, founder of the sustainable basics label Entireworld, which saw its site traffic and sales conversion rate double last week, the first full workweek charted under quarantine.
Sweatpants have not appeared this relevant or widespread since the early-Aughts craze for Juicy Couture. Even the most devoted of fashion plates who have made a career out of getting dressed for the sake of it — including influencers Danielle Bernstein, Olivia Palermo
Well, it wasn’t bourgeois.
It was brilliant. Kanye West’s stealthy takeover of Paris Fashion Week was brilliant in its last-minute buzz factor. Brilliant in its two-part punch, a religious event that prepared the way for the second coming, a quasi-religious fashion event. Brilliant in playing the kid card. (North West’s rap performance, adorable or irritating, depending upon where you stand on the grump-o-meter.) Brilliant in West’s iron-cast, I’m-a-star knowledge that — no matter the time (9:30 p.m.) or prior negative Yeezy experiences (Roosevelt Island) — if he built it, we would come.
We did, though a few opted out of Part One, the Sunday Service at the Bouffes du Nord theater. That proved to be a glorious 90 minutes of positivity that was, remarkably, at least to the uninitiated in the one-time congregation, not about Kanye at all. The choir leader referenced “Mr. West” once, a good 30 minutes into the concert, after which he did a brief solo. But for the most part, West faded into the 120 incredibly gifted singers of his Sunday Service choir, who lifted their voices in praise of a different Almighty.
Soon after the Sunday Service was confirmed, rumors started swirling about a show — Yeezy Season
Amy Smilovic has long been a standard-bearer of independent American fashion executives. She stealthily built her Tibi brand into a contemporary powerhouse with staying power, even after a dramatic shift in creative direction about a decade ago, from sweet girliness to a cleaner, more urbane look. In her two-plus decades in business, Smilovic had navigated major upheavals — 9/11 and the 2008-09 recession — without every laying off a single employee. That run ended last week, when fallout from the coronavirus pandemic forced her to terminate a full 30 percent of her 85-strong work force. It devastated her, and her goal is for the company to emerge from this crisis strong enough to bring those people back. “I believe in capitalism that has sensitivity to it,” Smilovic said.
WWD: This is all stunning, isn’t it?
Amy Smilovic: It’s stunning when you’re measuring time and minutes, when you can’t believe where your head was on Monday versus the previous Friday. It’s insane.
WWD: No one knows where it’s going.
A.S.: No one knows where it’s going. You are left to horrific imagination on how bad it could be. The health stories are devastating, when you read that hospitals are turning away people over 60 in countries

Giorgio Armani on Saturday took a full page ad in more than 60 newspapers in Italy, writing a letter to all of the healthcare providers strenuously fighting the coronavirus outbreak.
The list includes major dailies from Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, La Stampa, Il Giornale and Il Sole 24 Ore to sports newspapers such as Tutto Sport and Corriere dello Sport (Armani owns the Olympia Milano basketball team). The list also includes regional newspapers such as the Gazzetta del Sud, La Sicilia, Corriere Adriatico, Messaggero Veneto, La Nuova Venezia, Il Tirreno and Brescia oggi, to name a few, from the north to the south of Italy.
“It is moving to see you engaged in your work with all the difficulties and the great efforts that by now all the world knows. And especially to see you cry,” writes the designer in the paid letter. “I think that this feeling is connected to my own desire to become a doctor when I was young and I was looking to forge my path.
“All of the Giorgio Armani company is tuned in to this reality and is close to all of you: from the stretcher bearer to the nurse, from the family doctor to all
Lamine Kouyaté was making sustainable fashion and championing diversity long before it became a thing. The cult Nineties designer, who originally hails from Mali, returned to the Paris runway after a 15-year hiatus — he had a three-year stint showing in New York — chose as the venue a charity shop, the shelves groaning with mismatched crockery and secondhand books.
Rossy de Palma and Michelle Elie, both fixtures at Xuly Bët back in the day, walked the runway. Kouyaté paraded a coed collection combining his signature body-con — patchworked together with red stitching, the wrap ballet cardigan a recurrent style — with denim, puffer jackets and upcycled check suiting splashed with block lettering in gold. Tailored pieces and crisp white shirts were styled under stretch cardigans, and boxy jean jackets with big metallic buttons.
It read like a celebration of eclectic street style — the kind not dominated by giant logos and broadcast on Instagram, but that people might wear on the street. “It’s about youth, about the future,” the designer said after the show.
Kouyaté may be largely unfamiliar to the younger set, but he already knows the ropes, and given the increased exposure of African designers and sustainable fashion in Paris
American fashion and textile companies are starting to collectively produce medical grade face masks, as the country’s doctors and hospitals deal with a critical shortage amid a growing number of patients ill with COVID-19, or coronavirus.
As of now, nine companies have formed a “coalition” of sorts to get production going, according to the National Council of Textile Organizations. The companies are American Giant, Fruit of the Loom, Hanesbrands, Parkdale Inc., Los Angeles Apparel, AST Sportswear, American Knits, Beverly Knits and Riegel Linen.
The NCTO said Parkdale, the largest yarn spinner in the U.S. based in North Carolina, led the effort after the White House made clear there was an urgent need for medical supplies like face masks. The organization said the nine companies joined together “virtually overnight” to “build a supply chain” and “fast-track the manufacturing of medical face masks to help hospitals, health care workers and citizens battling the spread of the COVID-19 disease.”
Peter Navarro, an assistant to President Donald Trump and current director of the White House Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, has been working with the coalition and some of the first face masks have already been approved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,

GET TO WORK: Christian Siriano is calling on other fashion designers to join his efforts to sew masks for hospital workers in the fight against the coronavirus.
After tweeting to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday asking how he could get masks to New York City hospitals, Cuomo’s team responded immediately to help coordinate and to determine which hospital needs the masks first, Siriano said.
Now working from his home in Connecticut, Siriano said he and his team aim to make 1,000 masks for New York City hospitals in a couple of days.
Siriano also hopes that any other designer who has the production capacity to help will do so. “I really think that if anybody still has team members who are sewing or who can sew, especially in New York, we could make a few hundred a day. There are only so many people who work in a hospital. Fashion could really change everything in a week. Look, we have nothing else to do right now. Nobody is buying clothes so what can we do? I hope that everybody can pitch in.”
Siriano said, “I know that Monique Lhuillier has a full working atelier in L.A. Maybe she can help. Hopefully, everybody
Cars could be seen passing by through the floor-to-ceiling windows, but inside the cavernous white-and-black space where Hyke staged its fall show there were only models and photographers. Like so many events, the show was canceled to audience members due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, but it was live-streamed on the brand’s web site.
Designers Yukiko Ode and Hideaki Yoshihara continued on their path of reinventing military classics and workwear with a modern touch, but their latest offering was in many ways softer and less structured than some recent seasons. Voluminous outerwear took centerstage, with elements of trenchcoats showing up on billowing ponchos and coat dresses with extra-long sleeves. Elegant separates such as ankle-length fringed skirts and crisp, high-neck blouses were sometimes accessorized with knit pinafore-like pieces with long fringe and high funnel necks. Some stopped at the chest while others extended to the knee.

Natalie Ratabesi drew on her personal style for fall, offering a lineup that mixed boyishness and elegance, relayed with loose jeans paired with suit jackets — cropped, double-breasted ones, extra wide and extra short. Her breed of coolness verges on rock-chic, but of an elevated sort, with distinctive play on volumes. Bulking up jeans in interesting ways, on the thighs, for example, she reined them in, too, with vertical seams in one case. Dresses were spaghetti-strap cocktail chic, in pinks and reds, with light, flowy skirts, sometimes pleated. Mini jumpsuits were charming, original and sexy — with comfy pockets.
WWD Critique: Stylish and original, the lineup conveyed cool-girl fashion without letting things get intimidating — a modern proposal.
The 2020 Cannes Film Festival is the latest to be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Festival organizers revealed the news in a statement today, stating the festival will not be held from May 12 to 23. Organizers are instead considering several options on how to go forward with the Cannes Film Festival, one option being to postpone the festival to run from the end of June to early July this year.
“As soon as the development of the French and international health situation will allow us to assess the real possibility, we will make our decision known, in accordance with our ongoing consultation with the French government and Cannes’ City Hall as well as with the festival’s board members, film industry professionals and all the partners of the event,” the statement read.
Due to the health crisis and the development of the French and international situation, the Festival de Cannes will no longer be able to take place on the dates planned, from May 12 to 23. More info #Cannes2020 👉 https://t.co/peLmfw0gQW pic.twitter.com/SVWPasvU23

Not bad for a guy who previously said that for a big part of his life, he had “no idea what I was doing” when it came to style and that he “made a lot of mistakes.”
“Over the years I learned that the best advice when it comes to style is simple: be true to yourself,” Lundqvist told Men’s Journal. “Year-by-year I tried new things and I learned from my style mistakes. I had some really bad outfits at the beginning—nothing worked together. You go through things and find out what you like and what works for you. Eventually, you get to: ‘This is me, this is who I am and how I want to dress.’ My best advice is to be yourself and try and stick to that.”
One thing Lundqvist has developed over the years as part of his style is a love of watches. Lundqvist has partnered and collaborated with TAG Heuer over the years, including when he helped design a special edition version of the Aquaracer Quartz watch.
“It’s hard to beat a TAG Heuer watch. As a brand itself, all they do is quality when it comes to timepieces and I’ve had a lot of fun working with the brand,” Lundqvist said. “Their mindset and motto at TAG Heuer is ‘don’t crack under pressure.’ That mindset, that’s what it really is for me and is such a big part of what I do. Being a goalie, you’re the only guy back there. You can’t afford to make mistakes—and if you make mistakes, it’s going to cost you. So I really take that slogan to heart.”
Lundqvist spoke with Men’s Journal about playing in New York for a decade, how he trains, and his favorite types of watches.
How did you develop your style?
It was never a goal of mine to be trendy or anything, a lot of times I like things that might be out of style. I don’t really care because I feel comfortable in it. And once you have that confidence in yourself about, you don’t even think about it. Sometimes it can take some time. But New York is a great place for that, you can try everything. No matter what you do, there’s going to be someone else dressed even wilder on the street [laughs]. I want to feel comfortable when I dress because when I’m uncomfortable, I don’t feel like me. So I dress how I feel and it’s great to use style as a way of representing myself and I try and stick to that. So once you figure that out, you can try to be consistent in your style.
What are some of the ways you train for the NHL season?
The last couple of years have been a lot more focused on my leg workouts. Core for me is also very important as a goalie. I try to keep my back and hips feeling the right way. I think also as we get older, the best way to maximize your strength is by making sure everything is in line and making sure you’re stretching, which helps prevent injuries. Sometimes those smaller moves make the big differences, by building those little muscles you keep everything else healthy. One of the other things I like to do is tennis during the summer. It’s a lot of quick movements and in a funny way, it’s a lot of the same movements as I do in hockey. I try to make working out fun when I can, and tennis is something that’s great for exercise and I like it as well. But overall for me, working out my core, back, and legs are essential.
What have you enjoyed about collaborating with TAG Heuer over the years and your partnership together?
It’s hard to beat a TAG Heuer watch. As a brand itself, all they do is quality when it comes to timepieces and I’ve had a lot of fun working with the brand. I remember one project with them we did over the summer, and I got together with someone back in Europe and we drove these amazing cars. And their mindset and motto at TAG Heuer is “don’t crack under pressure.” That mindset, that’s what it really is for me and is such a big part of what I do. Being a goalie—but also for artists, being athletic, or when you’re training—the biggest part is your mindset and how you deal with your emotions.
Being a goalie, you’re the only guy back there. You can’t afford to make mistakes—and if you make mistakes, it’s going to cost you. So I really take that slogan to heart. It’s been a lot of fun working with the brand for a few years now. I had the opportunity to design my own watch last year and it was exciting. TAG Heuer always means the best and they have a great group of people there that I’ve worked with.
How has your training changed over the course of your career?
I guess as I’ve progressed in my career it’s more just figuring out what do you need and how do I get through it to keep myself at my best. When I was younger, I trained a certain way and as you get older, you have to tweak that a little bit. Maybe you work out a little less or with a bit less intensity, or you lower the weights when you need to. As you get older, you listen to your body more and I noticed over the years, like my back and hips needed more attention. Now, I need to be more focused on those areas to make sure they’re all where they need to be and stay healthy. I make sure I’m strengthening the areas around those and so over time, you learn what you need and give an extra focus on those areas.
You previously collaborated with TAG Heuer on a special edition of the Aquaracer Quartz watch. What was that experience like for you in helping design a model?
Obviously, they have the brains and the knowledge when it comes to making a watch. For me, it was great to be able to get some guidance from the experts and go back and forth about the designs. Getting to tell them what I like and don’t like. The final result was to have a watch that I would be proud of and excited about, and we came up with some great designs for it. It was a lot of fun to be part of the process and it was also fun to give a couple of watches to some of my friends as gifts and be the one who helped design it. And to be able to have my own number on it and have it made in collaboration together, it was special to me, especially as someone who loves watches.
If someone is looking to buy a watch for someone as a gift, what are some things they should consider and what picks do you suggest?
What’s great about watches as gifts is that there are so many different types and styles, so you really can think about how it fits the person. Getting a TAG Heuer as a gift is always a good option. It comes down to you knowing the style of that person and at least a little bit of how they dress, in case you want to get one that they’ll wear when they dress up. And you can also be personal if you want, and engrave something on the back. It’s a gift that somebody will probably have for a long time, so it’s one of my favorite types of gifts to give.
What kinds of watches do you look for when you’re picking a timepiece?
I like them dressy and clean. For me, the watch is always like that final thing I do when I get dressed in the morning. It’s the last touch on the outfit. You get ready and think about: ‘What am I wearing?’ Then you look at your options, and the watch is going to accent it. I also love music and love going to shows when I can and I’ll usually wear a leather jacket to them. So for that, you want maybe a bigger watch or something like that. The watch is usually the final touch on my outfit. My favorite ones are the TAG Heuer Carrera and the Aquaracer, which is why I was so excited to design a model of that set.
What have you enjoyed about living and playing in New York City for a decade?
It’s been an incredible ride for me and my family, having been here for 15 years. It flies right by. Being part of the city is a big piece of playing here. And being part of the Rangers, it is such a great organization and a truly first-class organization all the time. The way they are to the fans, it has been amazing. Being part of the community means a lot to me and I just love the city. The first few years you feel like a tourist and you’re playing a game for a living, and then slowly year-by-year your mentality starts to change. Sometimes when I go back to Sweden now, I forget that compared to New York, people aren’t always walking so fast and honking and all that [laughs]. But I love the city and I’m really grateful for all that I’ve experienced.

NIKE’S TEAM EFFORT: To help fight the coronavirus pandemic, Nike Inc. leaders and the company’s foundation are donating more than $ 15 million to support communities where Nike employees live and work.
The mega brand’s home state of Oregon saw its biggest one-day spike in cases Tuesday, according to state and county officials. Gov. Kate Brown has ordered that schools remain closed through April 28. As the state’s second largest employer behind Intel, Nike has about 12,000 workers in the state. A good amount of the $ 15 million of the Nike-led donations will benefit local communities.
Nike cofounder and chairman emeritus Phil Knight and his wife Penny, executive vice chairman Mark Parker and his wife Kathy, and president and chief executive officer John Donahoe and his wife Eileen are donating a combined amount of $ 10 million.
The distribution of their funds will include $ 1 million to the Oregon Food Bank, $ 2 million to the Oregon Community Recovery Fund that has been set up by the Oregon Community Foundation and $ 7 million to the Oregon Health & Science University to bolster statewide care coordination in Oregon, to increase patient access and ramp up operational readiness for expanded diagnostic testing for COVID-19.

With Brutalist architecture as her starting point, creative director Marie-Christine Statz sent out a collection dominated by structured silhouettes with cinched waists, wide shoulders and ample sleeves as their common denominator.
The gray, black and sand-toned color palette was a fitting canvas to highlight construction and set off the varied surface textures of the fabrics like rough wool, cady and grainy crêpe. These were enhanced with satin lapel detailing, adding interest to minimalist silhouettes that were slightly offset, as is her label’s wont, thanks to visible tucks.
Belts crossed the body on many of the tailored silhouettes, buttoned at an angle on a wide-leg jumpsuit to striking effect, while dresses that verged on the severe had subtle draping at the waist or capped sleeves, an outsized coat two sets of sleeves, all providing understated drama. Leather fringing created movement on a full-length skirt or as a toggle that hung down the back of a simple halter dress in charcoal gray.
The only ornament came by way of statement jewelry pieces created in collaboration with Samuel François, with giant gold brooches in the form of letters, bangles and outsized earrings punctuating certain looks.
The growing economic shutdown over coronavirus has for now claimed its first model-led business. Tyra Banks is indefinitely putting off the opening of her Modelland attraction, in the works for more than a year.
The modeling-themed store and experience was set to open May 1, with tickets already being sold online for access, ranging from $ 59 for basic access all the way to $ 1,500 for an expansive package that would include a full photo shoot. The concept of the store is built around the experience of being a model, with a catwalk experience, “immersive theatre” and the offering of “professional photography moments designed by you and Tyra.”
As of now, there is no new date for the attraction to open.
“As is no surprise, in light of the recommendations of the CDC, WHO and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, we have decided to postpone the opening of Modelland,” a spokesman for the project said. “We will continue to monitor the situation and determine a new date to open that is appropriate and safe. We remain excited to bring the wondrous world of Modelland to you and will wait to welcome you to our attraction when the time is right.”
The project has been under construction

COMMENCEMENT CANCELED AT PRATT: In response to the worsening pandemic in New York and globally, Pratt Institute has nixed its commencement ceremony that was planned for May 16 at Radio City Music Hall. Students, who complete their requirements for graduation, will earn their degrees and will receive their diplomas, according to a statement issued by a Pratt spokeswoman.
The event would have been the school’s 131st commencement ceremony. Last year’s event honored 1,200 graduating students at the famed venue. It was not immediately known how many students this year’s cancellation is expected to affect.
Like secondary schools and colleges around the country, Pratt also awards honorary degrees to leaders in arts and designs. Those honorary recipients have not yet been revealed.
In addition, Pratt has canceled its annual fashion show, which was slated for May 7, and the Design Show, which was slated for May 13 to 18. Lastly, Pratt will not be holding its Awards Convocation on May 15 as planned. All of the decisions are in accordance with New York City’s restrictions on public gatherings.
To help keep the Pratt community up-to-speed about any developments, there are real-time updates about coronavirus-related matters being posted online. Like many other colleges and universities, Pratt
Playing with contrasts, Mantù juxtaposed a refined sartorial elegance with a touch of feminine, eccentric flamboyance. While double-breasted coats, sleeveless dresses worn with fluid blouses and skirt suits were crafted from classic tailoring fabrics, a chic pajama set, a cotton shirt tucked into a leopard print skirt and a coat cut in a hourglass silhouette were all peppered by a cascade of feathers.
WWD Critique: While respecting the brand’s main goal, offering modern women a practical yet chic round-the-clock wardrobe, this season Mantù succeeded in injecting a new, cool vibe into its fresh, approachable lineup.
The impact of the coronavirus is being felt by virtually every industry.
The COVID-19 pandemic, which amassed 182,100 cases and caused 7,305 deaths globally as of March 17, has led to the disruption of everyday life, with local governments enacting strict measures to contain the virus’ spread.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio have made such orders to prohibit large gatherings, including closures of restaurants, bars, gyms, nightclubs and other businesses. These measures have affected myriad fashion and beauty businesses, many of which are now closing their doors for an indefinite period of time.

Among those hit hardest by the decline are G-III Apparel Group (down

SYDNEY — Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia’s 25th–anniversary edition has been canceled, according to organizer IMG.
The showcase of Australian Resort 2021 collections had been due to run from May 11 to 15 at Sydney’s Carriageworks venue.
“Due to the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC)’s mandate against holding non-essential, organized public gatherings of more than 500 people in light of global health concerns regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus), we regret to share that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2020 will not take place,” said Natalie Xenita, executive director of IMG’s fashion events group for the Asia-Pacific region, in a statement on Tuesday morning Sydney time — a day after the introduction of the Australian federal government ban. “We thank our incredible designers, producers, partners and staff for their support of the Australian fashion community and look forward to celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2021.”
All tickets already sold to MBFWA shows taking part in the new MBFWA: The Experience initiative will be reimbursed as quickly as possible, according to IMG. In November, IMG said it was trialing an integrated consumer strategy at this year’s event, which was due to see 25 percent of seats at participating shows available for purchase by the public.

Judith Milgrom pictured her imagined Maje girl dressed in sequins in the middle of an afternoon, either because she was getting ready to hit the town or had just returned home. So, for someone who likes to party, but also works, Milgrom thought up a dressy and easy lineup that felt youthful, with autumn-toned shorts suits, flattering floral dresses that stopped at the thighs, all-black bomber jackets covered in sequins and tweed vest and shorts ensembles. Adding a more masculine flavor, she also offered a hefty, shadow plaid workwear shirt, with lilac touches, and the season’s must, shearling — on the collar of an aviator jacket.
WWD Critique: Milgrom tackles her mandate of championing French girl style at home and abroad with consistency, offering another cute collection for fall that ticked off a number of the season’s bourgeois trends.
What’s going on with luxury retail? As in, why is it going on? With every public official and medical and scientific expert out there pleading with people to avoid all nonessential public encounters that require physical interaction closer than that six-foot distance, how can the lords of luxury continue to keep their doors open for business in locales where governments haven’t mandated closure?
People need some of what Walmart sells — food, groceries, pharmaceuticals. Ditto, Target, CVS and Walgreens, all now partnered with the federal government in trying to stem the coronavirus crisis. Workers at such retailers — sales associates, managers, stock people, security, delivery, all of them — are now in the same category as health-care providers: Their work is essential. They are at risk for the greater good, and God willing, their employers are doing everything possible to ensure their good health. (A monetary bonus during or at the end of the crisis would be nice, too.)
But Dior? Chanel? Ralph Lauren? Prada? Nobody needs what they sell; by definition, luxury is a world of want, not need. For what greater good are their retail employees now endangering themselves and, should one become infected, everyone she or he comes in

As the coronavirus outbreak spreads, so too its effect on the fashion industry.
COVID-19 has steadily spread globally currently with more than 100 nations affected by the virus, with cases totaling at roughly 135,400 and the death toll at 4,988 as of March 13.
The virus hit Italy in the midst of Milan Fashion Week late February, causing many designers to rethink how they’d present their fall 2020 collections. Giorgio Armani, for one, barred a public audience at his runway show, later posting a video of the collection shown in an empty theater.
The virus continues to have an adverse effect on design houses, many of which have had to cancel or postpone their international resort 2021 shows.
Events are also not immune to the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak. A number of major gatherings — including SXSW, Coachella and the Tribeca Film Festival — have already been canceled, leading many to speculate the fate of others, such as the Met Gala, CFDA Awards and even the Olympic Games.
Here, WWD compiles a list of the fashion weeks and major events canceled or disrupted because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Magda Butrym never ceases to be inspired by the Eighties and for fall she kept her brand’s party spirit alive with plenty of mini-sequin numbers, pleated corsets featuring vintage-style floral patterns and chain embellishments or more standout body-hugging dresses with myriad ruffles embroidered on them.
By now, these are pieces that feel familiar yet still as exciting as ever — Butrym’s hip, Instagram-savvy clientele is not likely to tire of her statement occasionwear anytime soon.
But it was the new, more day-appropriate pieces that made for the more interesting part of the collection: There was plenty of tailoring, mannish coats with big shoulders, balloon-shaped pants and leather outerwear that had a retro feel and also highlighted the technical side to Butrym’s work.
WWD Critique: The Polish-based designer kept a fine balance between old and new that’s bound to sustain her success at retail.
PARIS — LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton said Sunday it will manufacture and distribute hand sanitizer to French health authorities for free in order to fight the spread of coronavirus, or COVID-19.
“Given the risk of shortage of hydroalcoholic gel in France, Bernard Arnault has instructed the LVMH Perfumes and Cosmetics business to prepare its production sites to manufacture substantial quantities of hydroalcoholic gel to be provided to public authorities,” the company said.
Starting Monday, all the production facilities of the group’s perfumes and cosmetics brands, including Parfums Christian Dior, Guerlain and Parfums Givenchy, will produce and distribute bottles of hand sanitizer to be delivered free of charge in France, prioritizing Parisian hospitals.
Since the first cases of COVID-19 were detected in the country, French consumers have cleared out stocks of hand sanitizers in pharmacies and grocery stores. In Paris, most pharmacies have had to put up signs informing people that they are fully out of both protective masks and hand sanitizers, two of the main tools used to limit contamination.
French pharmacies are excluded from the government’s forced closure of “nonessential” public spaces to limit the propagation of the virus, which was announced on Saturday.

Who isn’t rooting for Virginie Viard at Chanel? So after her show on Tuesday morning, there’s no easy way to say it: Confusion reigned. Following a beautiful, deftly focused couture outing in January, for fall Viard sent out a confounding lineup that stunned in its disarray. The disorder started from the first look out. Make that a pair of looks, as two models walked together Armani-style, only without the sartorial connection that his duets typically share. One wore a light green skirt suit, the other, a sporty jacket over a lace cropped top and wide pants, a row of brass buttons unbuttoned up the side of each leg.
In her show notes, Viard referred to the pants as jodhpurs. They turned into a rare unifying theme. Others were a scalloped motif; folkloric, “seven-league” boots inspired by a pair Karl Lagerfeld owned, and a general sense of transition-in-progress to a sportswear sensibility. One can argue the merits of such a shift for Chanel, but not on the strength of this collection.
Overall, Viard seemed to embrace an anything-goes attitude. Literally, as some attractive suits and dresses got lost in a cacophony of random thoughts. Would-be Jolie Madame suits, only slit high in front.
The impact of the coronavirus pandemic has touched virtually every industry, leading to the closures of a number of institutions in New York City and nationwide.
As COVID-19 cases continue to increase globally — the worldwide count is at roughly 135,400 cases and 4,988 deaths as of March 13 — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on March 12 that there will be an indefinite ban on gatherings of more than 500 people. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has also declared a state of emergency in New York City, which has about 95 confirmed cases of the virus, according to the mayor. On Friday afternoon, President Trump declared a national emergency.

The British royal family is taking precautions in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles, have canceled their upcoming travel plans due to the rapid spread of COVID-19.
The queen, who is 93, has canceled her upcoming trips to Cheshire and Camden in England for later this month, with a press release from Buckingham Palace today stating the cancellation is “a sensible precaution and for practical reasons in the current circumstances.”
The statement also reveals that the decision was made in consultation with the Medical Household and Government and that her other upcoming events will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
The announcement coincides with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall’s decision to cancel their tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus and Jordan from March 17 to 25.
Clarence House issued a statement on the cancellation, stating: “Owing to the unfolding situation with the coronavirus pandemic, the British government has asked Their Royal Highnesses to postpone their spring tour to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus and Jordan.”
The cancellation of their engagements comes just after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, traveled to the U.K. for their final engagements as
Coming off of her first official pre-fall season, Rosie Assoulin proposed fall as a response to the call of the prior collection. Where pre-fall’s strength was its lightness, fall’s was its focus on the colder season. The designer added modern twists to classics with heavy weighted plaid wools; for instance, enveloping opera coats and blanket-y ponchos or a coated cotton and tartan coat dress and high-waisted and belted trousers. Assoulin juxtaposed this tension with a variety of dramatic silk gazar, double duchess satin and silk file evening gowns; 3-D appliqué daisies, raw scalloped edges and a vibrant palette added the fashion whimsy the designer is known for.
WWD Critique: Rosie Assoulin offered divine tension within voluminous, couture-inspired shapes through heavy weighted wool outerwear and energetic eveningwear offerings for fall.
Influencer Amanda Stanton is bringing her fashion line to Bloomingdale’s.
The former “The Bachelor” contestant launched Lani the Label last year with a direct-to-consumer platform and focus on boutique retail relationships. Stanton is now expanding her retail presence with an 11-piece spring collection that launched exclusively at two Bloomingdale’s doors — in New York City and Sherman Oaks, Calif. — and will arrive at the retailer’s web site later this month.
In its first year, Lani the Label reached nearly $ 600,000 in e-commerce sales, said Stanton. She expects that number to grow in 2020, due, in part, to the Bloomingdale’s partnership.
“For 2020, we’re projecting at least $ 2 million between our e-comm site and wholesale platforms,” said Stanton.
In an e-mail, Arielle Siboni, Bloomingdale’s digital fashion director for ready-to-wear, called Stanton “a great role model for women” whose line will resonate with Bloomingdale’s Millennial customers.
“It’s important for influencer-led lines to bring excitement to the Bloomingdale’s assortment and animation into our stores,” said Siboni. “The lines we have brought in so far, whether it be WeWoreWhat or influencer collaborations with our private label, Aqua, have been extremely successful. This approach allows us to always be looking for new opportunities that will differentiate ourselves and resonate

Peruvian Connection, known for its artisan-made apparel collections, alpaca coats and knits, is venturing into the home category with a bedding collection.
The mixed-print sets of cotton sateen sheets and duvets, woven and knit alpaca throws and pillows, printed velvet pillows and matelassé cotton coverlets with shams, $ 115 to $ 430, will be available in Peruvian Connection retail stores and online beginning in July. Designed in-house — the company is based just outside Kansas City, Mo. — the 15-piece collection incorporates new and archival prints based on Andean weavings and other “ethnographic textiles” that have inspired founder Annie Hurlbut Zander over the years.
Hurlbut, a Yale-educated anthropologist who launched the brand while living in Peru in 1976, has had a lifelong obsession with textiles, amassing a collection of antique rugs, tapestries, quilts and wall hangings from around the world. Since Peruvian Connection opened its first brick-and-mortar retail in 2008, she has turned her interior decorating passion to the brand’s eight stores, including the newest outpost in Aspen, outfitting them with smoke-stained Victorian wallpaper, vintage cash wraps, and Andean textiles— all reminiscent of those in her own home.
“The idea for bedding has been incubating for years…the general inspiration came from my own personal experience
Rahul Mishra prefers to call it “easy to wear” — his collection of embellished suits and dresses, some embroidered with floral and tropical forest scenes, others carrying fringes of tiny, hand-crocheted tree leaves. Even pale, sequined monochrome numbers were rich in detail. His vision celebrates hand craftsmanship with clothing made over dozens of hours, rather than the thousands it takes for his couture pieces. Sleeveless, tiered tent dresses in silk with sheer insets were also a carryover from the couture line, in solids, powder blue or daffodil yellow — more convincingly “easy.”
WWD Critique: Mishra is a strong champion for the slow-going, luxury route as an answer to the sustainability challenge, but given the difficulty of wearing artwork, the simpler options were most effective.
Sao Paulo Fashion Week has joined the long list of global fashion weeks and events to be canceled due to the coronavirus.
The event canceled its spring 2020 edition, scheduled to take place April 24 to 28, said co-founder Graca Cabral.
“Due to the recent announcement of COVID-19 pandemic, Sao Paulo Fashion Week has decided to cancel all shows scheduled for April 24 to 28,” she told WWD. “Considering the atypical scenario and wishing to preserve health and wellness of all, the Festival SPFW + and international conference will be rescheduled.”
Cabral, who co-leads production company Luminosidade, said that an event to mark SPFW’s 25th anniversary remains confirmed for Oct. 16 to 20, however.
In Colombia, Colombia Fashion Week, or Colombiamoda, remains on schedule for July 28 to 30, said organizer Inexmoda’s executive director Carlos Eduardo Botero. “We are still promoting the event and none of our exhibitors or sponsors have yet told us they will be cancelling their travel plans amid virus disruptions,” Botero said.
In Mexico, however, Mexico Fashion Week said the physical event for its fall-winter season in April will be canceled but that it will host its runway shows through digital platforms.

As HBO Max is getting ready for a spring 2020 launch, its “Gossip Girl” reboot is taking shape.
The new streaming service, which will be home to HBO and WarnerMedia programming, announced last July that it would be reviving the beloved teen drama eight years after it went off the air.
“Gossip Girl” was one of the most popular series in the late Aughts, and also one of the most fashionable, with then-up-and-coming actresses Blake Lively as Serena van der Woodsen and Leighton Meester as Blair Waldorf.
The Upper East Side teen drama reboot is one of HBO Max’s highly anticipated offerings. The streaming service, which is launching this May, announced on Feb. 21 that it is hosting a reunion special for the Nineties’ hit show, “Friends,” bringing the cast back together for their first televised event since the series ended in 2004.
From which original actors are returning for the reboot to how the new show will be different from its predecessor, here is everything you need to know about the “Gossip Girl” reboot.
When is the “Gossip Girl” reboot released?
No release date has been revealed for the reboot, but the streaming service is slated to launch this May.

Near the close of a fashion month that has felt like the world ending as we know it — between coronavirus anxiety and Tuesday’s pension fund protest sending armed police into the street, making parts of Paris resemble a war zone once again — Miuccia Prada gave us a moment of pure escape at Miu Miu.
Turning her show venue into a theater with plush patterned carpeting, red velvet seats and rose-tinted columns, she set the stage for a collection that was a reminder of “charm as positivity,” as she put it in her show notes, and really, the power of fashion to spark joy.
Not dressing to succeed, to impress or even to defy, dressing for oneself was what the collection was about, and how a spiky mary jane pump, jeweled hair pin or the unexpected pairing of a sailor top and a long, glossy black leather skirt, can make a day brighter. That’s why we all got into this crazy business, right?
Watching the beautiful parade of long, lean coats, some with high set rows of gold military buttons, and tiny velvet back bows adding childlike reverie, the ankle skimming skirts slit to the thigh with blazers cinched over top, and
New York City’s top two fashion design schools have decided to cancel classes and move to remote instruction in light of the growing coronavirus pandemic. Both the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons School of Design are increasing measures to avoid outbreaks on campus.
Late Wednesday afternoon, New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that all state and New York City government-affiliated universities would move toward remote instruction beginning March 19 in an effort to promote “distance learning” and reduce “campus density,” throughout the remainder of this spring semester. The Fashion Institute of Technology, which is a SUNY school, is included in this mandate and has suspended classes from March 16 to 22 so that professors can “prepare for potential online class instruction and for employees to prepare to work remotely.”
FIT president Joyce Brown issued a memo to students this afternoon noting, “Beginning March 16, all classes will be suspended for a week to allow faculty to prepare for potential online class instruction and for staff and administration to prepare contingency plans for working remotely or implementing alternative scheduling in the event the campus is required to close or there is a determination to reduce the population density of the campus. DALLAS — Stanley Korshak will present an exhibition and sale of rare jewelry designed by fashion icon Tina Chow beginning April 14.
About 25 to 30 pieces will be offered to customers through April 18. They include one-of-a-kind pieces that Chow designed and produced for herself, including a lapis lazuli bead necklace studded with diamond, gold and platinum star constellations, which will be priced in six figures, explained Melissa Geiser, Stanley Korshak’s longtime fine-jewelry buyer.
The trunk show will also present crystal, bamboo and silk cord styles from the designer’s first signature collection, as well as later streamlined looks made with 18-karat gold wire and other materials.
A separate retrospective of Chow’s designs will run through May 16.
Everything in both displays comes from the designer’s personal collection by way of her children, China Chow and Maximilian Chow; her sister, Adelle “Bonny” Lutz, and gemologist Lynn Nakamura, Geiser explained.
“We really wanted to have an exhibition that showed the feeling of everything as opposed to just a sale,” Geiser said. “We always held her in such high regard and did great business with her. It’s an homage.”
The Amerasian Chow began her career as a model for Shiseido and rose to become a luminary of the
For her third effort at the helm of the French sports label, Louise Trotter zeroed in on the relationship between René Lacoste and his wife, French golf champion Simone Thion de La Chaume. “They were both powerful people in their own right who came together and complemented each other. Their relationship, in their contrasts, was very harmonious,” she said after a coed show that blended the codes of golf and the brand’s tennis heritage.
She recast many of the brands signatures — track pant, trenchcoat and of course, the polo shirt that will come in a lusher double-knit version — in a palette of sophisticated bright colors, blowing out the proportions to telegraph ease in fit and in fabrics. “Today, luxury is comfort,” she said. “Performance can be how you feel, that you get a great fit, that you can wear it day after day and it still looks good.” Cutting much closer to the body, this more tailored but still relaxed silhouette felt in step with this season’s return to elegance while staying true to the brand’s sportier side. One russet colored suit, seen on a female and later male model, was striking.
Golfing touches were blended throughout, like the sleeveless
After much speculation, Coachella has officially been rescheduled due to Coronavirus.
“At the direction of the County of Riverside and local health authorities, we must sadly confirm the rescheduling of Coachella and Stagecoach due to COVID-19 concerns,” Goldenvoice, organizers of both festivals, shared in a statement. “While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.”
Coachella will instead take place on the weekends of Oct. 9, 10, 11 and 16, 17, 18, while Stagecoach will occur on Oct. 23, 24 and 25.
“All purchases for the April dates will be honored for the rescheduled October dates,” added the company. “Purchasers will be notified by Friday, March 13 on how to obtain a refund if they are unable to attend.”

Back in 1986, Timex released the first Ironman sport watch, a tough digital timepiece designed for athletes competing in the grueling Ironman series of races. The watch has gone through many different iterations since then, but now it has the brains to match its brawn. Timex has released the Ironman R300 GPS, which combines the watch’s trademark toughness with a deep suite of activity tracking and connected features, all at a bargain bin price point.
“With the R300, we will deliver the best value GPS smartwatch in the market,” said Shawn Cummings, Timex Group’s SVP of Advanced Technology, in a press release.
The first batch of these sporty watches has already sold out, so it looks like the company succeeded with that goal.
When you do get your hands on one, however, you’re in for a treat. The new Ironman is built to compete against other top-tier activity trackers, and offers a long list of features that any athlete will appreciate. There’s continuous optical heart rate monitoring, step, calorie, and distance tracking, and sleep monitoring—all viewable in the Timex Smart App. Today’s smartwatches are also beefing up their training content, and the Ironman doesn’t slouch there, either. If you’re looking for a little guidance, you can download workouts and training plans for running, cycling, and triathlons in the watch’s companion app. The watch also features standalone GPS, so you don’t have to bring your phone along in order to track distance and pace.
“I love the GPS function that lets you stash your phone at home,” says Men’s Journal Senior Editor Sal Vaglica. “That makes it easy to travel light on long trail runs.”
But if you do pair it with your phone (via a Bluetooth connection), you can receive calls, notifications, and texts right on your wrist. That’s nothing particularly groundbreaking; Apple and Samsung have offered these features for years. It’s also not quite as feature-rich as similar watches from Garmin or Polar, but the R300 wins big on price, and its focused tracking metrics should be plenty for most casual athletes.
Even with the high-tech specs, the new Ironman hasn’t lost its legendary toughness. It’s water resistant to 50 meters and has 20 hours of battery life in GPS mode. Switch off the GPS, and you’ll get incredible endurance: up to 25 days of battery. Whether you’re training for a killer adventure race or just need a way to track your miles around the neighborhood, the new Ironman definitely has you covered.

“I like to say we’re like the Disney of fashion and beauty and self-esteem,” said Tyra Banks of her newest undertaking Modelland, the “location-based attraction,” as she refers to it, opening in Santa Monica, Calif., on May 1. “We’re there to stay.”
It’s not a pop-up, emphasized the model-turned-entrepreneur. In fact, it’s perhaps the start of an international franchise. “There’s been a lot of interest,” she said. “And there’s a lot of money that went into building Modelland. When you go in there, you’ll go, ‘Oh, this is not popping down tomorrow or anytime soon.’”
General admission day tickets for adults at the 21,000-square-foot venture starts at $ 59 and goes to $ 1,495 (for the “fantasy dream” option).

One foot in the West, one foot in the East and her heart set on making a mark further afield is one way to describe Shanghai-based designer Fang Yang. After presenting her first couture in the French capital last summer, she showed her By Fang ready-to-wear line during the fall women’s wear collections, as part of a commercial push toward Europe — she has recently set up a studio in Paris — the Middle East and North America.
The designer took cues from the palette of often-overlooked Bauhaus textile artist Anni Albers and prettily spun origami — a longstanding inspiration — in the construction and decoration of a lineup of smart daywear pieces. For example, on a classic blazer, geometric inserts created curves that hugged the waist, while the placket of a shirt was folded into intricate triangles. But she also strayed away from formal folds with success, leaving fabric to drape naturally. It turned a parka into a cape-analogue, one of the more memorable pieces.
Already sold in retailers such as Beams in Japan and at some 40 doors in China, including its own French Concession flagship store, the line retails for between 400 euros for a crisp poplin blouse with
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Fears of the coronavirus didn’t stop Aerie from celebrating the ladies.
More than 300 people — including Aerie fans, executives, friends of the brand like author Katherine Schwarzenegger and model Hunter McGrady, and 12 of the 13 AerieReal role models — flocked to New York City’s Dumbo neighborhood for the sold-out AerieReal Summit, the intimate brand’s first, on International Women’s Day on Sunday.
But instead of high-fives and hugs, attendees exchanged air-kisses and elbow bumps. That’s because only a day earlier, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency thanks to an increase of confirmed coronavirus cases in the state.
Still, attendance was “beyond expectations,” Stacey McCormick, senior vice president of Aerie marketing, told WWD. “We didn’t know with all this media happening right now with the coronavirus; we weren’t sure if people would show. But everyone’s here and we’re excited.”
The all-day event was held at the upscale 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge and included panel discussions on things like sustainability, love and success and Schwarzenegger talking about forgiveness in honor of her new book, also about forgiveness. Attendees sipped on green juice smoothies, potted do-it-yourself air plants and took turns talking to the role models in the “Real

Things move pretty fast in the city. If you want to navigate it and enjoy everything that urban life has to offer, you need to be quick on your feet, comfortable, and able to transition seamlessly through a range of moods and environments. Ask any savvy urbanite, and they’ll tell you that having a wardrobe that can keep up is absolutely essential. Which is why we love Kenneth Cole’s new spring collection. Versatile and dripping with style, these picks are a perfect match for modern city living.
We recently put some of KC’s Techni-Cole shoes to the test while exploring New York City with full-time electrician and renowned mens fashion bloggerEric Wertz (how’s that for a resume?). As both an expert on laid-back-yet-tasteful menswear and a Brooklyn native, he was the perfect guide for shopping the Techni-Cole line and seeking out hidden gems across the city. From cutting edge urban farming to making the next great American whiskey and more, there’s so much to discover in New York—all you need is an adventurous spirit, and some quality staple pieces to keep you comfortable and looking good. Read on for our guide to some of the city’s best kept secrets and the Techni-Cole shoes that are must-haves for any urban explorer.
Here’s one thing you probably didn’t expect to find in the five boroughs: A sprawling farm perched on a rooftop. Since launching in 2009, Gotham Greens has become a leader in sustainable urban farming thanks to its high-tech approach to growing crops. All of the company’s produce is grown inside climate-controlled greenhouses—including a 60,000-square foot rooftop space in Queens—and the company uses machine learning technology to monitor plant health, cut back on energy and water use, and produce impressively high yields.
Whether you’re exploring a greenhouse or meeting up with friends, you need footwear that’s up for anything. What you need is a pair of Kenneth Cole Mello Lace-Up Oxfords. With their leather upper and breathable textile sock lining, these versatile kicks strike just the right balance between sporty and refined. They’re also built for all-day comfort: PImpact Pods in the sole provide optimal cushioning, and a grooved outsole helps the shoe flex with your feet. That means you can go from brunch to bike to hurry-up-and-catch-that train with ease.
There are few Brooklyn neighborhoods more iconic than Bushwick, a renowned haven for street art and home to a constantly growing assortment of unique bars and restaurants. If you like getting off the beaten path (and avoiding crowds of tourists), this is the place to be. Murals abound, and walking the streets is a great way to experience the incredible range of art. If you’re looking for a guide, check out the guided street art tour from Brooklyn Unplugged—starting at 10:30 a.m. daily, it’s a great way to see some of the neighborhood’s best pieces. Then you can cap things off with a tasty pie from Roberta’s.
We spent some time pounding the pavement to scope out Bushwick’s hot spots, and the Kenneth Cole Liam Sneaker was the perfect companion. With a sleek leather upper that you can dress up or down, a triple-layer cushioned midsole, and a breathable microfiber interior lining, these shoes can mesh with any outfit and keep your feet comfy through a day of urban trekking.
Kentucky isn’t the only place with award-winning bourbon. You can also find top-shelf whiskey in New York: Just head directly to Kings County Distillery. It’s the oldest and largest distillery in the city, and it’s located in a historic building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard (an area that’s definitely worth checking out). Every Kings County whiskey is mashed, fermented, distilled, and aged onsite, and there are several varieties to choose from (even a delicious chocolate whiskey flavored with cacao bean husks). Pop in for a tasting at the Gatehouse room any day, or stop by for a tour of the full distillery on Wednesday through Sunday afternoons.
It might not feel like it yet, but spring and summer are around the corner, and the Liam Leather Slip-On Sneaker makes a great addition to any warm weather outfit. Put simply, there’s a lot to love about this shoe. The lightweight sole features the Techni-Cole Rebound System for top-notch shock absorption and extra support, a memory foam insole provides a soft step-in feel, and a breathable lining will keep your feet cool when the mercury rises.
The Yotel makes a great home base for exploring New York for the weekend. Located on the far west side of Manhattan, it’s just a few blocks from the High Line and the brand new Hudson Yards development. It might be the most tech-friendly hotel in the city: each room comes equipped with a smart TV and fully adjustable Smart Bed, and luggage is handled by a Yobot—a “robotic luggage concierge” that will keep your bags safe in one of 150 storage bins. And after a full day of adventures, you can relax and unwind with a cocktail on the hotel’s expansive outdoor terrace, one of the largest of any hotel in the city.
You can’t bring your whole closet with you when traveling, which is why we like the Nolan Bit Strap Snake Detail Loafer—it can pull double duty as a dress shoe and a casual shoe. The rich leather upper is refined enough for formal occasions, but the snakeskin details add some extra personality and help these shoes fit in well with more casual looks. There’s no compromise on comfort, either: A flexible rubber outsole and a padded footbed will keep your feet happy no matter where your day takes you.

A memorial service for Ed Filipowski, co-chairman and chief strategist at KCD, will be held May 1 at 11 a.m. at the Walter Kerr Theatre at 219 West 48th Street in New York. It is by invitation only.
Filipowski, 58, died Jan. 10 from complications stemming from a surgery.
The service will be held three days before the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute gala slated for May 4, which will ensure that the international fashion crowd will be in town — although with fewer people traveling because of the coronavirus, that could pose an issue. The Costume Institute’s theme is “About Time: Fashion and Duration.”
A close friend and adviser to many in the industry, Filipowski had a client list at KCD over the years that read like a “Who’s Who” in the fashion industry. Clients included Tom Ford, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano at Maison Margiela, Versace, Givenchy, Tory Burch, Helmut Lang, Anna Sui, Victoria Beckham, Balmain, Tommy Hilfiger, Brandon Maxwell and Prabal Gurung.
A new addition to the Yves Salomon silhouettes this season was the salmon-colored tags coming with each fur garment, printed with the company’s newly established “Resource Pact.”
“We’re committing ourselves as a company to drastically reducing the production of animal fur, focusing instead on reusing existing furs,” said the furrier, pointing out a black astrakhan coat that was made using leftover pelts. “Before each collection, it’s now mandatory for the whole team to sit down and think about how we can reuse what we already have so I can limit our purchases of new fur.”
The furrier has also repositioned the brand to include a bigger selection of sheepskin pieces, which now represents 50 percent of the collection, compared to around 20 percent five years ago. “A lot of wholesalers have become fur free, so we had to adapt our range in order to continue working with them,” Salomon said. The sheepskin pieces were treated in edgy ways: a cream sheepskin jacket was covered in a dark blue tie-dye motif, while a glossy nylon white puffer jacket had a removable sheepskin collar.
The chicest pieces of the collection were the leather silhouettes, a new focus for the brand: Boxy leather shirts and long
PRETTY BOY: Having made a splashy entrance at the Dior pre-fall men’s show in Miami in a convertible car, Maluma is getting ready to wear the brand on stage during his current 11:11 world tour.
Kim Jones, artistic director of men’s wear at Dior, has created a series of looks for the Colombian performer based on pieces from his spring 2020 collection, made in collaboration with contemporary artist Daniel Arsham. Maluma will premiere the new outfits on March 11 in Athens and wear them on stage through April 4.
Standouts include a white organza jacket with saturated blue pleated georgette embroideries by Lesage, representing the most exclusive end of the house’s sportswear-meets-couture offering. Maluma will also wear monochrome outfits, suits and sheer jumpsuits featuring the house’s vintage newspaper print.
Jones previously selected the 26-year-old reggaeton star as one of five cover faces for the first men’s print issue of Harper’s Bazaar in 50 years. Maluma’s fourth studio album, “11:11” features collaborations with Madonna and Ricky Martin. He is also set to star opposite Jennifer Lopez in the romantic comedy “Marry Me.”

“I love Maluma’s unique energy, his abundant creativity, his passion for life,” Jones said in

Glossy art and fashion magazine As If has launched The Collaboratory, a platform for limited editions, capsule collections and one-of-a-kind pieces created in partnership with the artists, actors and designers that fill its pages.
The publication’s recent collaboration with post-modernist painter David Salle, Scarlett Johansson and designer Peter Hidalgo produced scarves, $ 295; pillows, $ 395; poufs, $ 495, and dresses, including a T-shirt dress, $ 3,100, strapless cocktail dress, $ 3,950, and off-the-shoulder sheath, $ 3,600, all printed with collages inspired by Salle’s 2019 “Musicality and Humour” show at London’s Skarstedt Gallery.
A shoe called the Pussy Power Pump, designed by Dee Ocleppo and embellished by artist Ashley Longshore, was created for Jennifer Hudson, the cover model of As If’s current issue, and is available for $ 400.

“Jennifer Hudson represents the quintessential American Dream, that if you have talent, and lots of it, you can really reach for the stars,” said Tatijana Shoan, As If’s editor in chief. “She’s a very positive person in spite of all the tragedy she’s gone through. What I love about Jennifer is she throws her shoes at singers she likes.
“Despite the art world not opening its doors to her, Ashley has continued with her passion,” said Shoan. “I took
Galvan has built a thriving business based on its modern, fuss-free take on the evening dress, but now the label is starting to look at occasion dressing from many different angles and evolving its offer into a full ready-to-wear collection, complete with more separates and tailoring.
For fall, they looked at the bold colors and cosmic references in conceptual artist Julian Charrière’s work. They translated them into abstract prints splashed all over new, more laid-back wrap dresses; shiny lamé blouses with matching leggings that had a fun, disco feel, and striking georgette fabrics with metallic speckles that featured on shirts and gowns.
New versions of the label’s popular slipdresses, reworked in straight cuts to fit a wider range of body types, were another welcome addition.
“We wanted to show new aspects to the brand, but nothing is ever too fluffy. We always focus on timeless pieces that can make women feel good straight away,” said Anna-Christin Haas.
WWD Critique: Familiar shapes, including corseted jumpsuits and satin, body-hugging dresses, were still among the strongest contenders. But the new range of separates fit right in to the label’s glam universe and kept things fresh.
FOCUS ON WOMEN: Cartier, the star label of Compagnie Financière Richemont, is sponsoring a women’s pavilion at the upcoming Expo 2020 Dubai that runs from Oct. 20 to April 10, 2021.
The pavilion will highlight stories of men and women who have contributed to gender equality and empowering women with a focus on milestones in women’s rights and challenges facing women, according to a statement revealing the move.
“The Women’s Pavilion, in collaboration with Cartier, is setting a needed standard for corporations to rethink their approach to gender advocacy—and is a powerful platform to cascade the gender equality message to the world,” said Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, United Nations under secretary general and executive director of U.N. Women. She and Amal Clooney are supporting the event, Cartier said in its statement, without providing further details.
The pavilion will highlight “crucial roles that women have long played as linchpins of their communities and drivers of economies and underscores Expo 2020 Dubai’s firm commitment to empowering all women to drive their own development and create a better future for us all,” said Reem Al Hashimy, United Arab Emirates minister of state for international cooperation and director general of Expo 2020 Dubai bureau.

Every guy needs to trim or shave his neck. Whether you rock beard or not, neck hair is a universal “no.” First of all, a neckbeard detracts from the shape of the beard itself and shaving it provides flattering geometry to your facial hair. Secondly, guys who shave their face will obviously be shearing their neck hair, too, so there’s really no reason for you to forgo grooming.
It’s totally fair if you prefer a trim over a shave. You’ll have to trim more often, yes, since the hair won’t ever be cut below a stubble, but you can buy yourself a few days with each trim. If you want a totally clean, smooth neck, on the other hand, then you must rely on a shave.
In some ways, shaving the neck follows the same rules as shaving your face, but there are other rules reserved simply for the neck itself. For all pertinent tips, we sought the neck-shaving expertise of some of our favorite barbers. They include Vicky Pena, head barber and lead training specialist at Boardroom Salon for Men, as well as Justin Virgil Gramelspacher and Stephen Gennello, barbers at Blind Barber in New York and Philadelphia. Here’s what they had to say.
The first thing to consider is which type of razor you want to use for the neck shave. There are two obvious choices: First, the multiblade cartridge razor (the standard one you see in shaving commercials), and the more vintage, single-blade (and often double-sided) safety razor. Here are the pros and cons of both.
Cartridge Razor Pros and Cons
Pros: All those blades can be a good thing. If it’s a good razor and a fresh blade (and if you prepared the skin properly for the shave), then it should yield baby-smooth results with a single pass of the cartridge blade.
“A cartridge razor has built-in protections that make it harder to cut yourself—especially when performing detail work like your neckline,” says Virgil Gramelspacher. “Many cartridge razors have moisture strips that offer additional protection.”
Cons: The cartridge razor isn’t perfect for everyone: “The blades of a cartridge razor are close together, allowing for moisture and debris to catch between the blades,” says Pena. “This causes the blades to rust and become dull, which can result in nicks and cuts during shaving.” You can remedy this by replacing the cartridge every six to eight shaves, or every two to three weeks, whichever interval arises faster, and by properly rinsing and storing it between shaves. Do so by drying the razor upright (in a razor stand or even a cup) in a cool, dry space. Once dried, store it away from moisture and dust.
You might dislike cartridge razors if your skin is especially sensitive. Having multiple blades isn’t always a benefit, as it leads to extra drag and redness. These individuals who experience redness from a slow, proper cartridge shave may consider the switch to safety blades.
Pros: “A safety razor gives a closer shave (than cartridge blades),” says Pena. But that’s not all: The blades are extremely cheap, often only 5–10 cents per blade, so they don’t turn your routine shaving habit into an expensive one.
Guys with ingrown hairs and sensitive skin will especially love safety razors: “A safety razor can also help with ingrown hairs, as well as eliminate skin irritation,” says Pena. This is largely due to the fact it has fewer blades dragging across the skin—but also because the blade cuts the hair more cleanly, and lower, than cartridge blades.
Cons: You may not see a safety razor as an affordable option upfront, though. “The initial cost of the safety razor is high,” says Pena. You can buy cheap options for $ 20 or so, but this is a device that deserves an investment. You want one with a properly weighted handle, a steady grip, and high-quality steel. (It makes a perfect gift, by the way.)
The learning curve of safety razors is also a factor: “Safety razor shaves are more time consuming and may take some time to learn how to properly shave.” It requires holding the blade at a 30-degree angle from the face, applying the proper (light) amount of pressure, and gliding that sharp blade down your precious mug. But luckily, it’s easier than it looks.
A lot of guys miss the mark, quite literally, when it comes to shaving their neckline. They either shave it too high (up on the underside of their chin) or too low (across the Adam’s apple). One compromises the stature of the beard and the other negates the process of shaving altogether.
Here’s how to get it right, according to all three of our experts. Pena says: “While looking slightly up in a mirror, place your middle finger on your Adam’s apple, and then your index finger above that.” Imagine a “U”-shaped line that connects this point to the back of your ears. “From there, you will shave everything below that line.”
This is how Gennello recites it: “When shaving a neckline, I use a 1-2-3 system. 1.) Just below the jawline. 2.) Bottom of the ear to top of the throat. 3.) Clean up the lower, natural beard line on the front of the neck.”
And Virgil Gramelspacher’s take: “If you bend your chin into your neck while looking into the mirror, several creases will form in a smile shape. Generally the line that creases along your Adam’s apple will be perfectly positioned and symmetrical.”
What Type of Shaving Agent to Use on Necks
Because you’re trying to shave a clean neckline, you’ll want to use a somewhat translucent shaving agent on your neck, says Virgil Gramelspacher. This rules out many foams, and gives favor to creams, gels, or even oils. His preference is shave cream, though: “You can see through it but it’s still offering a layer of protection between your skin and the blade.”
Extend yourskincareregimen: “Make sure your daily facial routine includes the neck too, in order to condition the skin,” says Pena. “For example, your facial cleanser, exfoliator, and moisturizer should extend all the way down the neck.”
Shave with your hair grain: “Shave with the grain of your hair to avoid irritation,” says Gennello.
Keep skin taut: “Pull your skin the opposite direction of where you are shaving,” Pena adds. This keeps the skin even and gives you an easy, seamless surface upon which to shave.
Exfoliate if you’reingrown-prone: “Exfoliating the skin will help to remove the top layer of dead skin that can clog the pores and in turn prevent hair from growing up and out through the skin’s surface,” says Pena.
Or ditch the blade altogether: “If you’re constantly fighting razor bumps, it may be wise to ditch the razor and opt for a beard-detailing trimmer instead,” says Virgil Gramelspacher. “You can trim daily and be clean-groomed with much less opportunity for discomfort.”

Dani Miller’s beaming smile — her red lips and beautifully imperfect teeth — is on prominent display around the world these days.
“My mouth is on the side of every building,” said the Surfbort frontwoman and face of Gucci Beauty. “All over, in Milan, London, New York.”
In Los Angeles, too, and in fact the image was plastered steps away on the corner of 8175 Melrose Avenue, where Gucci is celebrating its $ 35 “Mascara L’Obscur” (also modeled by Miller), the newest release following last year’s lipstick line debut, with a two-day pop-up instillation on March 6 and 7 in partnership with Sephora.
She was “shocked” first seeing the ad Miller shared at the VIP opening on Thursday evening. “But now, I’m seeing it like a freak flag, reminding everyone to love themselves how they are. Things that could be considered a flaw are actually what makes you unique and special and rad.”

How does it feel being a muse for creative director Alessandro Michele?

Still energized from his debut during the Paris men’s shows in January, Los Angeles-based Reese Cooper was back with a collection for women — a line developed on demand from female friends who liked his upscale, utilitarian-flavored streetwear but wanted more fitted shapes. He remade a vintage sportswear jacket with high-end wool fabric and added extra details: a hook here, an extra pocket there. Same for workwear trousers — slapping on extra pockets in places, for convenience and style. A snug translucent puffer jacket in a thermo-reactive material carried futuristic vibes, and he paired it with a long, bright blue skirt that added flow, while the drawstring waist kept things from getting too fancy.
WWD Critique: It’s early days, but Cooper’s star is clearly on the rise; here he offered another inventive exercise in elevating streetwear — his unpretentious breed of elegance feels relevant.
South by Southwest is officially canceled after much speculation over fears of coronavirus.
The annual music festival-turned tech and media event released a statement Friday afternoon saying the city of Austin, Tex., where the event is held, decided to cancel SXSW, scheduled to begin next weekend. This is the first time in 34 years of the event that it will not take place, organizers said, and it appears to be the first instance of a U.S. city intervening to cancel a large event. SXSW draws more than 150,000 people to Austin for a weekend of performances, panels and branded events.
“We are devastated to share this news with you,” the statement reads. “’The show must go on’ is in our DNA.…We are now working through the ramifications of this unprecedented situation.”
The so-called “unprecedented situation” is the feared spread and effects of COVID-19, better known as coronavirus, a flu-like virus that has gripped public consciousness in the last several weeks as it spread from an epicenter in China to most continents and roughly 100,000 confirmed cases of the disease.
SXSW is just the latest event to be canceled over the virus, but organizers noted that, “as recently as Wednesday, Austin Public Health stated that ‘there’s

The search for the perfect everyday sneaker is a complicated affair. In most cases, especially if we’re talking spring and summer, you want a low-top shoe that gives your ankle a bit of breathing room so your jeans, chinos, or suit pants don’t rest on top—or, god forbid, billow over. Unless you’re a whiz at mixing prints and colors, you want to err on the side of simplicity. That’s not to say you can’t play with texture and pops of color, but a great everyday shoe has versatility. Too many embellishments will raise eyebrows, especially if you’re trying to pull this off at the office, and beat-up workout shoes will impress precisely, uh, nobody. We found the verifiable unicorn of casual sneakers that transcends the boundries of streetwear: Say hello to the Court Sneaker by Everlane.
This shoe, inspired by basketball shoes of yesteryear, is a followup to the brand’s first foray into footwear (Tread). Made in Thai Binh, Vietnam, with full-grain leather sourced from Saigon TanTec, a sustainable, eco-conscious tannery, The Court Sneaker is all about leaving a small carbon footprint and a big fashion statement. The sole comprises natural and recycled rubber that’s almost entirely free of virgin (newly made) plastic, and the lining is made from 100 percent recycled polyester. As for that carbon footprint we mentioned, Everlane partners with NativeEnergy to wholly offset the amount of total greenhouse gas emissions produced, lessening the shoe’s impact on the environment.
Why We Like It
This is a casual sneaker, but the magic is in its subtleties. There’s a leather triangle on the inner belly of the shoe, as well as the outer, that’s imagined in a slightly darker shade or contrasting pop of color—unless you go for the monochromatic white or black options. The heel patch mirrors this color play, and is reminiscent of Adidas’ Stan Smith, only instead of that signature Kelly green, you get dusty rose, cloud grey, mustard, or forest. The stitching and vertical notches running along the back of the sole all add visual intrigue sans logo or label. It’s a minimalist design but don’t call it basic. Wear ’em with a suit or with jeans and a tee; they’re a stalwart in a capsule wardrobe.
The Court Sneaker also checks all our boxes when it comes to comfort. Even though they’re leather, they don’t stifle your feet after a day of standing or walking. They fit true to size and are easy to spot clean (we also appreciate that the white colorways aren’t blindingly pristine, so you don’t have to be on high alert about dirt. Perhaps most appealing, it clocks in under $ 100.

Add Ralph Lauren to the list of companies that are canceling events due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Lauren said Tuesday night it has decided to cancel its April fashion show, which was planned for an unspecified location in New York.
“In light of the ongoing uncertainties related to the novel coronavirus around the world, we have decided to cancel our fall 2020 show as a precautionary measure and out of respect for our teams, partners and consumers. Our primary focus remains on their health and safety,” said a Ralph Lauren spokesman.
As reported, Lauren didn’t participate in New York Fashion Week in February and had instead decided to show separately in late April. Lauren had been on the “see-now-buy-now schedule” since September 2016, and he was planning to get out of that rhythm and routine and show fall 2020 in April.
WWD reported this week that Gucci decided to cancel its cruise 2021 fashion show that was slated for San Francisco on May 18. The decision follows Prada’s move to postpone its cruise show, which had been scheduled for May 21 in Tokyo. Walking into the courtyard of the Louvre museum after a season dominated by fears of the coronavirus, and yet another day of anti-government protests that snarled traffic in Paris, you were struck by the impervious majesty of the place.
In its eight centuries of existence, the palace has seen its share of coronations and revolutions. Surely, this too shall pass?
The Louis Vuitton show venue was a simple black box with wooden flooring, and the guest list had been reduced by a third due to the coronavirus outbreak. The world’s biggest luxury brand was going sober, it appeared.
It turned out Nicolas Ghesquière has been thinking about history, too. As the show began, a screen lifted to reveal a vast podium filled with 200 characters dressed in costumes spanning five centuries – to the front and left, you could distinguish what appeared to be Britain’s Queen Elizabeth I.
It was a breathtaking tableau, worthy of a Hollywood production — the costumes designed by Milena Canonero, who worked with Sofia Coppola on “Marie Antoinette.” Yet rather than tap into France’s storied past, as he famously did with his spring 2018 collection of brocade frock coats, Ghesquière used it as a jumping off point for a
SYDNEY — Sydney fashion label Esse Studios took home the 24th National Designer Award at the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival.
Announced on Wednesday at the Melbourne flagship of David Jones on the first day of the festival, which runs until March 14, Esse Studios designer Charlotte Hicks will receive a prize package valued at 120,000 Australian dollars or $ 78,823 at current exchange. This includes 10,000 Australian dollars or $ 6,569 cash, business advisory services and the opportunity to develop a capsule collection with award partner David Jones.
A graduate of the University of Technology Sydney, Hicks launched her label in 2017 after spending five and a half years as a designer for Sass & Bide and previous roles at companies including Zimmermann. With a focus on denim, cotton and knitwear, Esse Studios specializes in “slow release” editions of small capsule collections.
The judging panel included Vogue and GQ Australia creative director Jillian Davison and Bridget Veals, Eloise Bishop and Chris Wilson, David Jones’ heads, respectively, of women’s wear and accessories, sustainability and men’s wear.
The inaugural Honorable Mention for Sustainability went to Sydney-based activewear line Nagnata.

Back in the 1930s, a new kind of watch burst onto the scene: Alpina’s “Block Uhr,” an anti-magnetic, shock- and water-resistant wristwatch clad in a stainless steel case. Although those specs might seem pedestrian today, they helped create the sport watch category and laid the groundwork for the huge range of outdoors-oriented timepieces that followed. The Alpiner Quartz line of watches is the descendant of the Block Uhr (alongside the mechanical Alpiner 4), and now Alpina has released three new models with a GMT function—a boon for travelers who need to track and adjust to different local times.
“The addition of the GMT function takes this watch to a more international level,” says Men’s Journal Fashion Editor Kevin Breen, “allowing avid travelers to easily adjust to life lived across different time zones.”
When traveling across the globe, you need a watch that’s accurate and reliable, and a trusty quartz ticker like the Alpiner Quartz GMT makes a great pick. Each of these three new watches have 24-hour increments engraved on the bezel, and a large central pointer tracks domestic time. The bezel is also color-coded, so it’s easy to see if it’s day or night in your chosen time zone at a glance. Plus, the pointer can be adjusted forwards and backwards, which makes correcting to a new time a snap. That’ll definitely save you some irritation when you’re jet-lagged after a long flight.
Along with those handy features, you also get a hefty dose of Alpina style. All of the Quartz GMTs are capped with sapphire crystal and wear a handsome 42mm stainless steel case, which is available in both satin and polished finishes. On the back, each comes with an engraving of the Alps—a nod to the brand’s Swiss origins.
The dial features a date display at 3 o’clock and two different options for colors: a sleek anthracite gray with a steel bracelet strap, or navy blue paired with your choice of leather or steel bracelet straps. No matter which you choose, you’ll get a sharp, subtle color palette that should mesh seamlessly with just about any outfit.
“I’ve always found the Alpiner Quartz to have great balance,” Breen says. “The product is masculine and refined without being too flashy.”
And, like any good sport watch, the Quartz GMT has the strength and endurance you need in the outdoors: It’s water resistant up to 100 meters, and it boasts four years of battery life. If you have some big adventures on your itinerary, this watch is up for it.

North West is following in her famous father’s footsteps.
The six-year-old took the runway at Kanye West’s surprise Yeezy Season 8 runway show on Monday during Paris Fashion Week, performing as models made their walks.
North West rapped against an auto-tuned beat, repeating lines like “yeah, cool, cute,” and “What are those?” as well as a few “woahs” as the fashion crowd cheered her on.
She was later joined by her dad, who smiled proudly at her as she continued performing. While this is her debut performance, she has routinely joined her dad at his regular Sunday Service gatherings, with videos of her dancing and singing going viral.

“All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players,” wrote William Shakespeare, but Wang Chen Tsai-Hsia’s collection negated the idea of the Shiatzy Chen customer being only a bit player. The designer said she’d drawn inspiration from Eastern and Western theater, focusing on the larger than life wardrobe of its actors, on- and off-stage.
Presented in one-to-one appointments, rather than a show, the brand’s labor-intensive craftsmanship shone. In pictures or see at catwalk speeds, the overall impression would have been of a lineup that taps the Western feminine mid-century tropes seen elsewhere this season. In person, a host of details jumped out. The way different types of lace were layered to achieve a 3-D effect on a shoulder. A double collar took cues from a traditional Chinese one and was layered in a trompe-l’oeil combination with a necklace neckline. It wasn’t all perfect: a couple of jacquards — a jumbled pattern of stages, operatic headdresses, fans and flowers — stumbled, particularly as stately gowns.
The more attractive silhouettes were no doubt the ones balancing extensive handiwork and traditional Chinese cuts with contemporary fits and lengths. Among the standouts were a great coat cut from a padded material that
The Rothy’s woman is “kinetic, energetic, moving around,” the brand’s creative director Erin Lowenberg said as she padded around the brand’s soon-to-open New York City retail location, in between lauding its new handbags.
It’s the footwear brand’s first foray into the category, with five silhouettes including a convertible handbag, crossbody, clutch, tote and range of catchall bags, all in the notable “poppy” colorways that define the brand.
“We’re not trying to chase high fashion because we believe that our products are modern classics. What we want to do is chase the technology and inspiration behind them and remake them and rethink them for her and her life,” said Lowenberg.
That means being on the customer’s shoulder as well as her feet as Lowenberg enthused, which was the plan all along. Also in the plan is a nimble approach to brick-and-mortar, which already includes Boston; Washington, D.C.; San Francisco — and now New York City.
For the handbags, the 100 percent recycled polyester blended knit is made by combing nearby coastlines for ocean-bound plastics to be used in tandem with the brand’s signature thread spun from single-use plastic water bottles.
All bags are machine-washable, and some – like the handbag and dual-zip crossbody – come complete

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Maisie Williams and Reuben Selby obviously got the memo about his-and-hers dressing at Thom Browne: The pair turned out with matching vivid blue eye makeup and pastel check suits.
“We wanted to dye his hair blue, but we couldn’t find any bleach because all the shops were shut,” said the actress, who remained mum about what she has on the cards in coming months.
Artist Chloe Wise paired her black and white tweed suit with a boned bodice. “I’m wearing a corset and it’s really uncomfortable,” she confided.
Playing the reporter with her smartphone, she went on to pretend to film interviews with fellow guests, who included Janelle Monáe, Michèle Lamy and Jeremy O. Harris. “I’m going to interview you while you interview me,” she laughed.
If the rising waters at Balenciaga left one with a sense of doom and gloom, along came Thom Browne’s ark to save the day with childlike reverie.
Here’s the setup: Showing men’s and women’s on the runway together for the first time, the designer put the sexes on equal footing — literally — in sensible, block heel Ghillie boots. It was a good move.
Gone were women in dizzying platform shoes having to be escorted off the runway after feeling faint. Gone, too, were the hobble skirts and bound arms that have on occasion, suggested a misogynistic blind spot. Instead, strolling the runway wonderland of snow, were matched his-and-her model sets, dressed identically to tailored perfection in skirts, dresses and suits.
But, since they all wore black veils over their faces (fastened with tiny hair pins, each painstakingly affixed with a signature Thom Browne red, white and blue ribbon), it was difficult to tell which was which, and that was the point. Thanks to Janelle Monáe (sitting front row), Billy Porter, Laverne Cox and many more trailblazers, it doesn’t really matter anymore.
Playing to the storyline, each model carried a different animal-shaped leather handbag. There were 33 in total in Browne’s zootopia — giraffes,

If ever there were a season when it would have been easy for Hermès to trot out its heritage full gallop, it would be this one, when everyone from Michael Kors to Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing are feeling horsey, and turning out bourgeois tailoring, blanket coats and capes.
But the house has always set its own pace apart from the whims of seasonal trends. So instead, Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski decided to pare the women’s wear back to a graphic essence. In keeping with the Hermès 2020 theme, “Innovation in the Making,” she presented a “manifest of purity,” as she called it, on a set of striped vertical bars reminiscent of horse jump poles.
Working in Piet Mondrian’s strict vocabulary of primary colors, she created a baseline for an Hermès wardrobe, including more options in non-leather or using minimal-leather (with the growing animal-loving luxury class in mind, perhaps?). Some looks came in both, well positioning the brand for changing values around consumption, and offering more accessible pieces as it courts customers with new product categories, including its first line of lipsticks bowing March 4.
Canvas raincoats with cape collars, contrast quilting and shearling lapels struck a preppy note, as did silk skirts with linear pattern play
FASHION HOLOGRAMS: Guests treaded carefully upon arriving at the Lourdes presentation on Wednesday: the floor at the entrance of the Dragons Elysées restaurant was a pane of glass atop an aquarium.
That wasn’t the only quirky detail that evening. Instead of racks of clothing or even a photo installation, designer Andreas Aresti decided to show his debut women’s wear collection on holographic screens.
While his name might not ring a bell, Aresti is behind some of the buzziest fashion brands around: he started at 17 years old at Gypsy Sport, then went on to design for Tim Coppens, Kanye West and Stefano Pilati for the launch of Random Identities. The designer is now working on the relaunch of Hood By Air alongside Shayne Oliver.
“My aesthetic is an accumulation of all of these experiences,” said Aresti, who is now 26 years old.
Named after his mother, Lourdes is a brand offering clothes that are easy to wear: multi-pocket jeans, silk dresses, leather pieces and a skirt created out of an upside down ribbed cotton tank top, a nod to Aresti’s personal style – he confessed to wearing one everyday.
The color palette — earthy tones of brown, black, beige and hints of blue — was

The Nina Ricci girl has arrived on dry land. For their fall collection, Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh ditched the aquatic references they had made something of a brand signature and took to the city streets, with a collection that mixed mannish tailoring with touches of boudoir slink.
“This season it was very important for us to create this more grounded woman,” Herrebrugh said backstage, adding the pair based their color palette on the work of Dutch painters who moved to Paris.
Shots of saffron, ultramarine and Sienna red brought to mind Old Masters, but the duo also looked to 20th-century artists like Kees van Dongen, approaching each look like an individual portrait.
One woman might opt for the comfort of men’s staples: a gray wool overcoat, dress shirt and beige pants pooling over sturdy shoes. Another might succumb to the seduction of a black silk pajama set and robe. Boxy cropped jackets were layered over gauzy shirts, while snug mohair sweaters set off extra-large pleated pants.
Whereas the designers previously pushed the Ricci atelier with their sculptural flou constructions, this show saw them exhale. A case in point: the billowing cinnamon dress that brought to mind a painter’s smock.

Women’s Cancer Research Fund’s annual fund-raiser — “An Unforgettable Evening” — raised more than $ 1.8 million at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills on Thursday night.
The event, hosted by Ken Jeong and featuring a performance by the Jonas Brothers, brought out Paris Hilton, who happily posed for selfies alongside sister Nicky Hilton Rothschild; Monique Lhuillier; Katie Couric; Danielle Lauder, and Richard Buckley with Tom Ford, a past honoree.
This year, the organization — a program of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation that funds women’s cancer research — recognized Oscar winner Renée Zellweger as their 2020 Courage Award recipient.
“I’m going to put this right here,” the actress said, setting the weighty trophy on the podium. “Is that all right? It’s beautiful…what a fun evening. Thank you, Rita. That was so generous.”
Rita Wilson, an honorary chair alongside Steven Spielberg and wife Kate Capshaw, had introduced Zellweger.
“Optimism is a revolutionary act,” shared Wilson, quoting Zellweger’s line in “Jerry Maguire,” Cameron Crowe’s 1996 romantic comedy-drama. “[The words] were true then and now.”

Wilson praised the actress’ “talent,” “charm” and charitable work, “particularly for breast cancer” research and awareness.
For her part, Zellweger thanked Wilson for sharing her personal story, revealing her breast

We’re going to go out on a limb and bet your weekend uniform includes a lot of simple cotton T-shirts. Spot on, right? We get it. They’re easy, unfussy, and look great. But finding the perfect tee can actually be a complicated endeavor because of the sheer variety of what’s out there.
We’ll tell you this much: You definitely want to try before you buy. There’s always a possibility tees (yes, even cotton T-shirts) can be stiff and uncomfortable—or on the other end of the spectrum, can shrink in the dryer and become a wear-once-and-toss situation.
Luckily, there are companies out there wholly devoted to crafting the right tee for you, designing a range of necklines like crew and V-cut; different fits, from slim to oversized; and colorways galore, whether you like classic white or an unexpected pop of color. And if we’re talking trends, the ’90s are back, folks. So don’t be surprised if you catch some throwbacks (tie-dye!) in our 10 picks below.

The coronavirus has caused another cancellation: Movado’s Swiss watch conference in Davos.
The watch group has pulled the plug on its event, which had been planned for March 14 to 18, owing to growing concern over the coronavirus in Europe.
“When the virus was largely contained within China, we felt we could keep the Davos summit but scale it back to become a conference for our European and Middle-Eastern customers,” Movado chairman and chief executive officer Efraim Grinberg said in a statement. “Now with cases growing in Europe, we feel that we must act to protect the health and safety of our customers and employees and therefore have canceled the summit.”
This year was set to be Movado’s third annual stand-alone conference — a format the group launched in 2018 as an alternative to Baselworld. In true form, the designer contacted Numan, humbly asking if he could remix some tunes for his show soundtrack. And he said “yes,” opening up the floodgates for Owens to explore his teendom in the dystopian Eighties, when Numan’s calculated artifice railed against “the banality of a decaying world” — not unlike the one we’re living in today, plagued by killer viruses and apathetic politicians.
“He’s always considered a C-list David Bowie…but I like that he was more obscure and more underground…he is repetitive, hypnotic, more alien and sleek than Bowie,” said Owens, likening his leather jumpsuits and expressionlessness to a cartoon of a German artist.
The result inspired one of Owens’ more accessible collections in recent memory, still
