Social Work RTW Spring 2021

Designer Helen Zhang drew inspiration from the Seventies film “La collectionneuse” by Eric Rohmer as she focused for spring on comfort. “This pandemic created a space for people wanting to be more comfortable in clothes,” Zhang said. The color scheme was inspired by Sixties and Seventies retro colors including green, yellow and orange in the form of plaid, which was sprinkled throughout on the clothing as well as on the kitten heel strappy sandals with sheepskin on the inside and the green plaid handbags in two different sizes that can be worn three different ways. There also were old school platform strappy sandals in black and white.
A standout piece was the white viscose jumpsuit with black faux leather accents on the collar, belt and pockets that unzips at the waist and becomes a two-piece suit and the sleek silk pieces with a retro vibe. But it was the vintage-looking plaid elastic dress with an open cutout back and asymmetric cut that stole the show with its grunge feel.

An Exclusive Look Into Marina Moscone Spring 2021

Sunday marks the first official day of New York Fashion Week’s spring 2021 season, set to be an unprecedented series of collections shown digitally, physically — socially distanced or without bystanders — or not at all. In the last seven months, the world has experienced global turmoil and hardships; the fashion industry, with its usual hamster wheel of newness, was forced to stop and slow down immensely. For many, the time has been crucial to step back and understand how the industry should move forward, with important conversations about the fashion calendar, the wholesale model, sustainability and equality all at the forefront.
Throughout the resort season and in the weeks following, designers worldwide have made decisions based on what’s important for their businesses. The New York calendar is split — a lineup of new and expected talents is scheduled to show through the 16th while New York’s marquee designers, Michael Kors included, have their sights set on mid-October. Even Council of Fashion Designers of America chairman Tom Ford does not anticipate a traditional runway season returning until at least fall 2021 (for the spring 2022 season).
Regardless of date, time or format, a shared value among designers big and small is

Brandon Maxwell Resort 2021

“Maybe I’m overly optimistic all the time, but [this time] has really driven home what fashion is to me, it’s the connection with people,” Brandon Maxwell expressed over Zoom. “The shows and everything I do is really about the food and the drinks and the music and getting together.…It’s been wonderful to pivot and see that that human connection can happen in any sort of way.”
In the early months of lockdown, Maxwell’s brand was able to launch its own full-fledged e-commerce, which he added found success quickly (especially in denim and knits). While spending three months straight in his Brooklyn home quarantining, the designer took the time to build out not only multiple capsules of one-of-a-kind garments, exclusive to the site, but also a weekly newsletter for his loyal customers and private clients. The newsletter features recipes and playlists (among other things) that the designer and his team were enjoying and trying at home. Having this time to connect brought forth a renewed perspective and enabled the designer to move his brand in a direction that he felt was more what his woman was yearning for, and also of who he is as a person. “I think I’m a very

François Pinault Delays Opening of Paris Museum Until 2021

ART ON HOLD: Billionaire François Pinault has decided to push back the opening of his Bourse de Commerce art museum until spring 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The historical building, renovated by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, was originally due to be unveiled in June after several years of renovations. It was completed on March 9 and workers were busy putting the final touches to the venue when France entered its lockdown on March 17.
“Following the announcement of the continuation of the confinement linked to the health crisis and given the uncertainty over when activity can resume, the work necessary for the completion of the Bourse de Commerce cannot be carried out according to the planned schedule,” the Fondation Pinault said in a statement on Friday.
The City of Paris was in the process of completing construction work outside the building. Initially expected to last three months, this phase will now take an estimated eight or nine months due to the social distancing rules that are likely to remain in place once the lockdown is lifted, the institution explained.
The 150,000-square-foot building is in the center of Paris near the newly refurbished Forum des Halles shopping center, and in a neighborhood that

Something In The Water Postponed Until 2021 Due To Coronavirus

Source: Brian Ach / Getty

Along with SXSW and Dreamville Fest, another major music festival has been postponed or moved as a result of the spreading Coronavirus. Pharrell Williams’ Something In The Water festival will now take place in 2021.
A statement from Skateboard P reads as follows:

After much consideration, in partnership with the City of Virginia Beach, we’ve sadly decided to postpone SOMETHING IN THE WATER 2020.

We will return April 23-25, 2021 as part of our normal annual schedule. All tickets for 2020 will be honored for next year’s festival. Original purchasers must obtain a refund by submitting a request at SOMETHINGINTHEWATER.COM after March 20, 2020. All refund requests must be submitted through the website and no refunds will be processed by contacting Front Gate Tickets via phone or email.

Please use this time to keep building, creating, and progressing. The SITW team certainly will. There are a number of timely community-centric displays of goodwill that we are working hard to ensure still happen this April – things like the planting of a new school garden, public art, SITW Restaurant Week and more.

It’s kind of a bummer but better safe than sorry. See you next year, SITW crew!

Keanu Day Is Born As ‘John Wick 4’ & ‘The Matrix 4’ Drop On The Same Day In 2021

"John Wick: Chapter 3 ñ Parabellum" Photocall In Berlin

For a minute there in the mid-00’s it looked like Keanu Reeves was officially washed as The Matrix franchise ended with a thud and his following films flopped like a Troy Ave album (no shots). But then John Wick was born and Keanu was once again “The One” and on the heels of the success of that franchise came word that he’d once again be taking on the system in a new installment to The Matrix.

Now we have to get ready as it’s gonna be a hot summer in 2021 as Raw Story is reporting that both John Wick 4 and The Matrix 4 will be dropping simultaneously on May 21st, thus, giving us the first ever “Keanu Day.”

Though it seems to be sheer coincidence that both movies got the same release date, fans are rejoicing nonetheless as it seems the weekend of May 21, 2021 is set in stone years before it gets here and fans can’t contain their excitement. Taking to Twitter to express their joy and anticipation of possibly the biggest opening weekend of Keanu Reeve’s career, fans immediately coined “Keanu Day” and caused it to trend all across the social media board with many making plans years in advance while others praising Keanu for being a model human over the decades.

All that being said, there’s a good chance that one of the movie studios won’t want to risk their Keanu film debut being disrupted by the other at the box office and might actually choose to push up or push back the release date to avoid the head-on collision, but with the hype that #KeanuDay is creating, we doubt that would be the case.

Check out the some of the tweets below and let us know which one of these films you’ll watch first come May 2021.

Prada to Stage Resort 2021 Runway Show in Japan

MIUCCIA HEADS TO JAPAN: Prada is heading to Japan to unveil its resort 2021 collection.
The runway show will take place on May 21, but the location of the event is still undisclosed. This will be the first show staged by Prada in Japan.
In June the brand hosted its men’s spring 2020 runway show in Shanghai.
Prada started presenting its resort collections with a show in 2017, when the luxury brand staged a runway event at the Fondazione Prada Osservatorio inside Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II arcade. In 2018 and 2019, Prada headed to New York to show its resort 2019 and 2020 collections with shows at its headquarters in Midtown Manhattan.
The Prada resort 2021 show will follow the Chanel one to be hosted in Capri on May 7 and will happen just a few days before Max Mara’s cruise runway event in St. Petersburg on May 25.
While the full schedule of resort shows is still to be defined, the pre-fall calendar already counts a Dior Men show in Miami on Dec. 3 and a Giorgio Armani women’s show on Nov. 14 at the Armani Theater in Milan. On that occasion, the designer will also unveil the first high jewelry collection under

Max Mara to Show Resort 2021 in Saint Petersburg

RUSSIAN WHITE NIGHT: Max Mara is heading to Russia to unveil its resort 2021 collection. The show will take place on May 25 in Saint Petersburg. The event’s location is still undisclosed.
Previously, starting with the 2015 pre-fall season, the Italian women’s fashion group has staged runway shows in New York, London, Shanghai, Reggio Emilia, Italy, and Berlin.
Max Mara’s runway show in Saint Petersburg will be part of the seasonal resort marathon, which will also see the fashion crowd flocking to Capri to attend the Chanel cruise show on May 7.
While the majority of luxury fashion houses have yet to announce the dates of their resort shows next spring, the pre-fall schedule already counts a Dior men’s show in Miami on Dec. 3 and a Giorgio Armani women’s show on Nov. 14 at the Armani Theater in Milan. During the event, the designer  who will receive the 2019 John B. Fairchild Honor award at the WWD Apparel & Retail CEO Summit to be held Oct. 29 and 30 in New York — will also unveil the first high jewelry collection under the Giorgio Armani luxury label.

EXCLUSIVE: Chanel Chooses Capri for Its Cruise 2021 Show

WANDERLUST: Chanel will be back on the road, to Capri, Italy, to show its cruise 2021 collection on May 7 next year, WWD has learned.
“We are very happy to go to Italy, and even more so to go to Capri,” Bruno Pavlovsky, president of fashion and president of Chanel SAS, told WWD. “It’s a very inspiring place, very inspiring for Virginie Viard. We have a lovely cruise show in the works.”
“From the 1920s, Gabrielle Chanel offered her clients lightweight and comfortable designs for yachting, coastal resorts, spa towns and other various sunny destinations such as the Riviera and the Lido beaches of Venice,” Chanel said in a statement.
It will be the second cruise collection designed by Viard, who has helmed the house’s artistic direction since the death of Karl Lagerfeld in February.
The Capri event will mark the first time since 2016 that Chanel is to present a cruise line outside of the French capital, where it’s been showing for the last three years to help the city counter the fallout from the 2015 terrorist attacks and to enhance its reputation as the global capital of fashion.
Prior to that, the fashion house was a big proponent of roving cruise shows, starting

News in Brief: GM Announces Plans To Recall Driverless Car By 2021

DETROIT—Saying the automaker is always looking ahead to the future, top executives from General Motors announced plans Thursday to recall a fully autonomous car by 2021. “By early next decade, GM plans to put over 500,000 self-driving vehicles on the nation’s roads, and then later take them off the roads amidst serious public safety concerns,” said CEO Mary Barra during a press event, explaining that she was certain General Motors would be the first major car manufacturer in the world to roll out a large-scale recall of a driverless automobile. “We’ve begun to test several autonomous prototypes with life-threatening mechanical flaws, and in just six short years, we’re confident that you’ll see GM driverless cars in nearly every tragic newspaper article and television news segment in America.” Barra added that GM’s forthcoming self-driving car would receive the highest-profile model line launch and ensuing …
