Who What Wear Launches Apparel, Footwear and Accessories Line in U.K.  

LONDON — Who What Wear, the California-based fashion and shopping platform, is expanding its retail arm in London with dedicated apparel, footwear and accessories collections, WWD has learned.
Debuting this month, Who What Wear will launch its apparel exclusively with Zalando for three months, and footwear in-store and online exclusively with Selfridges, until Feb. 17. Afterward, footwear will also be made available on Asos and Zalando.
“We launched the U.K. site four years ago, so it has really established itself. It felt like a good time now that we have a strong foothold. We will follow some of the same DNA that we are famous for on our site and in our Target collection,” said Sally Mueller, chief brand officer of Who What Wear.
Who What Wear, which started out as an online style and shopping guide, expanded into apparel in the U.S. in 2016 selling exclusively at Target.
The company is now reaching across the Atlantic, with a separate U.K. collection that won’t be available in the U.S. The Who What Wear team said the U.K. collection is different from its American counterpart and has a higher price point, averaging 120 pounds per piece.

Romeo Hunte to Incorporate Vintage Hilfiger Into Fall Line

Romeo Hunte has always considered Tommy Hilfiger a mentor, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Brooklyn, N.Y.-born designer turned to his idol as inspiration for his fall collection.
The graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology launched his women’s line in 2014 and expanded into a full men’s ready-to-wear collection in 2018. His street chic collection has been embraced by celebrities including Beyoncé and Victor Cruz.
At his show this weekend, Hunte will be channeling Hilfiger by integrating archival looks and fabrics used by the designer over the years into his own brand.
As Hunte described it: “Tommy Hilfiger has produced some of the world’s most timeless pieces that are still relevant [today]. For me, being able to integrate some of those capsule looks with my cut-and-sew methods, merging the narratives of both brands, means everything. Reconstructing pieces that are already assembled was [also] a contribution to support sustainable fashion.”

Internet Native Jeweler The Last Line Opens SoHo Pop-up

Direct-to-consumer fine jewelry label The Last Line is setting up shop.
The company, which launched in 2017 with an assortment of stackable earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings, has notably capitalized on the Millennial trend for multiple piercing, and has held numerous piercing events in both New York and Los Angeles.
It will launch its first physical retail concept with a pop-up shop in SoHo at 63 Crosby Street. The store opens today and will remain until mid-February. It showcases shows a full breadth of The Last Line’s collections, and will offer on-site piercing services.
Cofounder Shelley Sanders said of the decision to head off-line and test a brick-and-mortar location: “I think that developing a brand and a loyal following through online can be very difficult, but if you can do it — it’s the most rewarding and direct relationship you can have with your customer. Watch of the Week: The Seiko Prospex LX Line Diver’s Watch Is a New Take on a Timeless Classic

The Paris-based brand revealed exclusively to WWD the launch of a handbag collection, Zadig & Voltaire x Kate Moss, bowing Sept. 26, a day after the label’s runway show at the Ritz in Paris. (The location was chosen because it was one of the supermodel’s haunts.)
“The primary reason for partnering with Kate was to work with her creatively on developing a new line of handbags. And so this is what they’ve done,” said Christopher Tate, chief executive officer of Zadig & Voltaire, North America, and a board member at the company. “[Cecilia and Kate] were models around the same time and sort of grew up in the industry together, so it’s not a new relationship. This is the first time they’re working together at Zadig & Voltaire in the context of collaborating on products.”
“She was a customer of Zadig & Voltaire — her daughter loves our T-shirts, and we had some friends in common, so we were linked. On Creates Alpine Hut to Introduce Outdoor Line

MOUNTAIN HIGH: On, the leading running shoe brand in Switzerland, has come up with a novel way to introduce its new outdoor collection.
The Zurich-based company has created the On Mountain Hut in the Piz Lunghin, a Swiss mountain also known as “The Roof of Europe,” in the Albula Alps. The hut is located at an elevation of 8,200 feet and sits next to an alpine lake. The zero-waste structure is reachable only on foot, is powered by solar panels and uses filtered rainwater. It will remain on the mountain until September, when it will be deconstructed.
Anyone is welcome to hike up the mountain to visit the hut, but only the winners of competitions hosted by On’s retail partners as well as its employees are allowed to stay overnight.
The hut also serves to publicize the company’s first hiking shoe, the Cloudrock Waterproof, that has a patented Mission Grip sole and is 35 percent lighter than comparable hiking shoes, according to the company. PARIS — Emily Harris is returning to Chloé this fall to head creative direction of the French house’s See by Chloé line, sources have told WWD.
Harris, who was previously senior knitwear designer for Chloé, left last year to become artistic director for French cashmere specialist Eric Bompard. She has also worked in knitwear design at Sonia Rykiel.
Officials at Chloé did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Harris, who is scheduled to take up the position in October, will have spent just over a year at Eric Bompard.
The label was purchased in 2018 by a financial consortium made up of French businessman Xavier Marie, the French investment fund Apax Partners SA and French public investment bank BPI France, with an eye to developing Bompard abroad and online. The 30-year-old group sells sweaters for men, women and children and has more than 50 stores, mostly in France, with around 10 elsewhere in Europe, including one in London.

The brand on Thursday lifted the lid on the first looks from the line, consisting of five bespoke pieces co-designed by Palermo — including the biker jacket — alongside her edit of 24 pieces from the fall collection.
Her selection, under the label Karl Lagerfeld Styled by Olivia Palermo, will launch on June 27 at Karl Lagerfeld stores and online via karl.com and oliviapalermo.com, in addition to wholesale partners worldwide. Pre-launch events and exclusive collection previews will be held throughout June in the Middle East and Europe.
“Our collection focuses on universal wardrobe essentials like a leather biker jacket, white button-down shirts and tuxedo suiting,” Palermo, the founder and chief creative officer of her own group, said in a statement.

In a letter to Jade, it was reported that the USPTO rejected the trademarks due to vague language and improper punctuation.

Here’s a Look at Adidas’ New Line of Game of Thrones Ultra Boosts

With Game of Thrones coming back for an eighth and final season, anticipation for the series has reached a fever pitch. With the premiere debuting in April, Adidas has joined up with HBO to put out a collection of GoT-themed Ultra Boosts.


'Game of Thrones' Final Season: Everything You Need to Know About Season 8

Taking inspiration from some of the most notable characters and families from the series, the Ultra Boost collection has six different models, all designed with unique colorways and features. Each of the varieties has a quote on the back of the shoe that relates to the specific family, including “Winter Is Here” for the White Walker collection. The designs also include custom insoles with the Game of Thrones logo and a spot under each shoe tongue with a family sigil or quote related to the model.

Game of Thrones will debut on April 14. The Game Of Thrones x adidas Ultra Boost doesn’t yet have an official release date, but the collection will likely be available around the time of the premiere.

This shoe colorway directly references the “fiery” way the Targaryen’s ruled when they were in charged, mainly by use of fire-breathing dragons. The mix of black and orange on the shoe is meant to reflect the fire that their dragons breathe, and the back heel has the quote “Fire and Blood.”

The Targaryen family ruled with dragons, but they were also originally from the city of Valyria. In the books, Valyrian features of people from that city include silver hair, blonde hair, and pale skin, and the shoe reflects those colors. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) fits this description, and in sticking with the Targaryen saying, the back heel has the quote “Fire and Blood.”

Night’s Watch

The Night’s Watch guards the thousands-year-old wall from intruders and they always wear black. The shoe reflects that color with a main black colorway, but there’s also some white at the tip to represent the ice and snow that dominates the area where the Wall and Castle Black (the Night’s Watch HQ) are. The back heel has “Night’s Watch” as the quote on a light blue fabric, also referencing the White Walkers and the ice beyond the Wall.

British retail brand AllSaints is diving nose first into perfumery. The contemporary label, known for its leather biker jackets, is padding its portfolio with three debut fragrances, in partnership with Revlon.
Sunset Riot, Metal Wave and Incense City are unisex scents, and according to the brand, pay tribute to the “diversity of AllSaints.” Creative director of AllSaints Wil Beedle said the fragrances have been created with unexpected combinations, such as floral notes mixed with leather and metal ones.
“We are extending our activity beyond ready-to-wear and it made sense for us to explore the fragrance world,” Beedle said. Earlier this year, AllSaints inked a licensing agreement with Global Brands Group to expand its accessories range to include footwear, socks, costume jewelry and cold weather accessories.
By partnering with Revlon, AllSaints is hoping to strengthen its position as a global retailer. “It was immediately clear that not only does Revlon have an impeccable expertise, it also has an intuitive understanding of our brand. The Revlon team were hugely supportive and allowed us to achieve what we wanted without compromising our vision,” said Beedle.

Ryan Seacrest is making the jump to Amazon — at least for his skin-care line.
The television personality and entrepreneur will begin selling his direct-to-consumer brand, Polished by Dr. Lancer, on Amazon’s Luxury Beauty vertical.
Polished is a collaboration between Seacrest and celebrity dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer, who has worked with Victoria Beckham, the Kardashians and others. It launched in 2017, but has only been available on the brand’s own e-commerce site.
“We brought Polished by Dr. Lancer to market so that men everywhere could experience a little bit of Dr. Lancer’s skin-care genius for themselves,” said Seacrest. “Our new relationship with Amazon marks an important milestone for the brand and will provide easy access to this great product.”
The product offering includes a microscrub for $ 35, a dual cleanse and shave for $ 20, a sunscreen for $ 35, an antiaging serum for $ 55, a lip-care sunscreen for $ 10 and a four-piece travel kit for $ 48.

ComplexCon 2018: Gucci Ghost Artist Trevor Andrew Debuts Line

PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST: Trevor Andrew, known for his Gucci Ghost collaboration with Gucci, can now add streetwear line Real Buy to his resume.
Andrew was on hand at ComplexCon this past weekend to debut the Real Buy, which was initially teased online on Nov. 1 with a long-sleeve T-shirt. For ComplexCon, the artist brought hand-painted jackets, which lined the walls of his space. There were also short- and long-sleeve T-shirts retailing for $ 65 and $ 90, respectively, bearing seven different designs.
“I’ve always been making stuff so it’s nice when I find somebody that believes in what I’m doing and they give the free reins to do what I do. That’s always a good scenario,” Andrew said of the Real Buy while sitting on a couch in the brand’s booth Saturday.
Andrew’s ComplexCon buildout re-created his Koreatown studio, which he moved into last year after working out of Brooklyn for 17 years. The booth came complete with painted floors mirroring his actual work space and free tattoos done on site.
Andrew’s art has been seen in places such as Dover Street Market in Tokyo and Milk Gallery in New York. The artist, who is a former pro snowboarder, has also worked with the aforementioned

With Eighties logomania and premium denim both enjoying a renewed spotlight in fashion, the timing seemed right for Jordache, one of the original “designer jeans” brands, to reassert itself in the market. So to help celebrate the moment and its 40th anniversary, the company will unveil a premium denim line exclusively at Barneys New York and Kith the last week in October.
“Right now there is a desire, especially for Millennials, to bring heritage and vintage inspiration back,” said Liz Berlinger, Jordache president. “We realized the new trends using a lot of our design inspirations — our original launch collection had high-rise straight legs, oversize jackets, more rigid fabrics and darker washes with high-contrast stitching. Now was the time to bring it back.”
In order to bring the right design mix of old and new, Jordache tapped veteran denim designer Benjamin Talley Smith. “We really felt this project needed a fresh eye, so we took a totally different approach with someone who hasn’t been seeing it for the last 40 years,” said Berlinger.

FASHION FOCUS: Thylane Blondeau couldn’t find that perfect sweatshirt, so she decided to design her own. And that led to the 17-year-old French model and actress — a L’Oréal Paris brand ambassador — to conceive a full urban clothing line under the brand Heaven May (after her middle name), WWD has learned.
Blondeau’s followers — she has 2.4 million on Instagram alone — will be able to rock the look sold on her own site, heavenmay.com, starting Oct. 11.
“I have a lot of fans, and they’re always like: ‘Where did you buy this? Where did you find this?’” she said. “And I was like, everything they like I am going to do it for them and for me.

AG Denim Scion Samuel Ku Launches New Line CQY

The premium denim resurgence continues in Los Angeles. Samuel Ku, who was president and creative director of AG Jeans for a decade, is launching a new denim an essentials line called CQY.
With CQY, pronounced “coy,” Ku envisioned clothes built to last – with clean and modern silhouettes balanced by a deep respect for the rich heritage of denim. Using Japanese selvage denims produced by Kaihara, and jersey knitted by the finest mills in Japan and Los Angeles, CQY’s collection will consist of minimal wardrobe essentials – a handful jean styles, a pair of khakis, a denim jacket and shirt, and a handful of cotton tops for both women and men.

Bethenny Frankel to Launch Skinnygirl Jeans Line

Bethenny Frankel is expanding her empire.
The reality show star and entrepreneur will reveal today that she is extending her Skinnygirl franchise from spirits and specialty foods to fashion.
In partnership with One Jeanswear Group, Frankel will launch Skinnygirl Jeans, a collection of denim, knit tops and jackets for women, at retail beginning this fall. The line will be targeted to department stores and will retail for around $ 100. It will also be sold online.
Frankel said she hadn’t been searching to enter the apparel space, but a friend introduced her to Jack Gross, chief executive officer of OJG, and they hit it off.
“Jack said he was meeting me as a courtesy because he wasn’t looking for any more celebrity brands right now,” Frankel said. OJG has collections with Gloria Vanderbilt, Jessica Simpson and William Rast (Justin Timberlake’s line), among others.
But once they discussed the possibilities of creating a collection, they both agreed they should move forward.
“I said I would give her 15 minutes, and after 10, I knew this would be a big idea,” Gross said. He said since that initial meeting he has been even more impressed with Frankel’s commitment to the collection.
He said she has a high level of engagement

Jenna Dewan Tatum Debuts Danskin’s Intimates Line in Fall 2017 Ads

Danskin on Wednesday will debut its fall 2017 “Fit for Everything” campaign featuring brand ambassador Jenna Dewan Tatum wearing its debut collection of intimates and loungewear.
“What’s really exciting to me about our ‘Fit for Everything’ campaign is that it’s so true to how I live my life. Dressing for day-to-night became a necessity when I became a mom, and I wear my Danskin from taking my daughter to school, to running errands, to date night or girl’s night out. We really wanted to capture that essence in this shoot,” said Dewan Tatum, who is a producer and host of NBC’s “World of Dance.”
Yu Tsai shot the campaign at a seaside Malibu, Calif., mansion, with Dewan Tatum practicing yoga on the balcony in leggings, relaxing in a bodysuit and joggers in the kitchen, and lounging in a coordinating bralette and high-waisted panty set. The actress-dancer was also photographed doing a “tree pose” on the beach while wearing an olive-toned leotard with laser-cut details. Danskin will also debut sleepwear and shapewear this fall.

The Interview That Crossed The Line — And What I Still Believe About Vulnerability

At the 2014 Grammys, I performed “Same Love” alongside Madonna, Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, and Queen Latifah while 33 couples were married on live television. And then I floated to the planet Orkjar on a golden pop-tart, because in what universe does a chubby lesbian get to be a red sparkling princess lady that sings about gay love? I cried for hours in the rehearsal, overwhelmed by the implications of what we were about to do.

The day after that surreal performance, I felt electric. I was in the middle of recording my first full-length album, and was scheduled to appear on a live celebrity talk show to promote my single. It was one of those shows where they recap vapid useless celebrity gossip, so naturally I couldn’t wait to dish on the moment when I pulled up to the glitzy after-party in a dirty red minivan with my parents, or when my girlfriend and I danced with a tipsy Anna Kendrick, or that my mom continued to insist that Skrillex was the nicest boy she’d ever met, and we ought to “sing a duet.” Unfortunately, this interview on this TV show was nothing like that. This interview pulled the golden pop-tart rug out from underneath me.

The morning-after interview started the way most interviews do: “How was working with Macklemore? Did you know Madonna was going to come out on stage? Do you shit cupcakes?” For some reason, the interview took a strange turn. Perhaps it was the interviewer’s hunger to be taken more seriously, to have a compelling story, to catch tears falling on the couch a la Barbara Walters. But whatever the reason, I was asked without relevance or warning about my childhood abuse, as well as being raped in an army barracks as a teenager. Any hopes of giggling about Skrillex evaporated quickly. I was aware that the information of my sexual abuse was out in the world, but that morning, when I was putting the final touches on my makeup, my sexual traumas hadn’t crossed my mind once. Why would they? I tried to respond as best I could, knowing that it was live television, but everything afterward was a blur. As soon as the cameras were off, I went into a full-blown panic attack. I didn’t know it then, but this same situation would happen multiple times in the year.

I questioned so much after that interview. Have I done this to myself? Is this what happens when you are vulnerable and open? How do I take back control of the telling of my own story? I started noticing weird shit after that interview — the disassociation we create between us and celebrity. How much I craved honest connection, and how I realized I was only receiving a strange form of being collected. I started realizing my own fascination with celebrity culture. Started wondering why people hate the Kardashians so vehemently — or, on the other side of the coin, adore them and obsess over their facial structures. It dawned on me — people have misdirected anger at the Kardashians or celebrities who have a disproportionate ratio of fame to talent. They don’t actually hate Kim Kardashian. They are upset with the culture that fetishizes them — where media prioritizes and praises ratings rather than substance. The Kardashians are simply opportunists. I began fearing the heavy societal commodification of celebrity culture, and was deeply saddened with the realization that music consumption is only vaguely a part of the equation for successful artists.

I wrote “Ribcage” because I was exhausted. I wrote it because my truth was hungover and needed a sarcastic joke. I wrote it because “Secrets” was an optimistic version of vulnerability, and because self-empowerment doesn’t always come wrapped in a bow.

I will continue to talk about my own sexual trauma when I feel safe enough to, and when I’m in control. I still believe in the power of vulnerability — that openness is the key to empathy, and that empathy is the key to human connection.

The 28-year-old New York City transplant, who possesses a colorfully chic Instagram feed and an equally vibrant line of accessories inspired by her birthplace, certainly serves as a creative style envoy for the South Asian country. Whether donning an allover rainbow-bright printed madras ensemble, layering a black moto jacket with intricately beaded and feathered necklaces, or posting throwback images to her account of Nepalese women festooned with gilded septum rings and strands upon strands of jewelry, Rayamajhi showcases not only her command of color but a striking balance of ethnic traditions and Western urban style. Here, the stunning globe-trotter reveals how her creative upbringing and the older generations of Nepalese women inspire her worldly, modern look.

Colorful Roots
I grew up in Nepal surrounded by patterns and color—a huge part of celebrations, festivities, and religious rituals there. But it was only after living in New York for a couple years that I really started wearing a lot of color. Having some distance from home and seeing it from a different perspective led me to incorporate pieces not just from Nepal but elsewhere too. And as my clothes got more colorful, I started wearing a lot more jewelry—hair ornamentations, beads, silver and gold jewelry.

The Ultimate Style Inspo
Ethnic women in Nepal look so incredibly ornate, I can’t help but be influenced in every possible way. Each ethnic group in Nepal is distinctly different from one another and we all look original. It’s also a dying culture now that more and more people are adopting Indian saris or a more modern, Western wardrobe—which in their own way are very beautiful, too. That phenomenon is happening around the world and it seems unstoppable, but it makes me so sad to see that spirit of identity and adornment take a very homogenous form. So I wear a lot of things that are very specific to certain cultures because there are so many beautiful things the world has to offer.

All in the Mix
I mix mostly jewelry and accessories from Nepal and elsewhere with the clothes I buy mainly in New York City and Tokyo. The jewelry has a traditional sensibility and the clothes are more modern in some ways: a mix of thrift and vintage finds and smaller designers, along with ethnic or quirky jewelry from my own line or my travels. Summer of 2015 was a lot of traveling for me. I was in Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, and then I took off for Europe and drove around France, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland. I bought some lava rocks in Indonesia, and then some of the best vintage things I have, I bought in Japan. Even the thrift stores are incredibly clean, curated, and a fun experience. Japan always inspires me with its originality and craziness, and Mexico is a psychedelic wonderland in and of itself with the beads, colors, and amazing clothes.

Artistic Beginnings
My dad was making a lot of drawings and paintings but had to get a job to support his family. My mother was an actor; she was especially detail-oriented and loved clothes, jewelry, and art. It was encouraged in my family, so I always had ideas and was making things. Living and going to art school in New York City introduced a whole new understanding of a different culture and aesthetics.

I graduated Cooper Union in 2015. I’d done mainly paintings, drawings, and sculptures, but the jewelry line started when I was still in school and looking for pieces that were unique. That made me start making my own and in 2014 I founded my jewelry line, Arpana Jewels. It’s all one-of-a-kind pieces influenced by ethnic-pop culture, rock ’n’ roll, death, and humor. My first series, The Melancholy Death of the Urchin Girl, is inspired by Tim Burton’s book The Melancholy Death of the Oyster Boy. My second series is Wanderlust, inspired by Björk’s song of the same name. Skulls are huge symbols in my work, and so is humor; I like to play on words with my titles. I’m in the process of releasing new work where I address sociopolitical and environmental issues; it’s called Have a Heart.

The Secret to Layering Jewelry
There is never such a thing as too much jewelry—well, at least not in my world. The way I go about layering my jewels is just by picking what I have and putting them together; it’s not systematic. I think that’s why it works. I don’t have any specific go-to pieces or accessories because everything is always rotating. It’s a game, and so it has to be fun.

Kanye West‘s Yeezy Season 2 fashion line was formally introduced to the world via a silent film that not only showed off the Chicago superstar’s creative vision, but also the work that goes on behind the scenes. Although the line has been teased since last month, the film gives fans a first peek at the exclusive creations.

The silent film was posted on the recently ressurected Yeezy.Supply site, and it is exactly what one could expect from a Kanye West production. The lack of sound makes the images flashing on screen compelling. The film shows the workers furiously stitching and putting together the line under West’s stern supervision.

There’s no forwarding or rewinding of the film, so once you hit up the page you have to commit.

Kiton Launches Eyewear Line in Paris

NEAPOLITAN STYLE: Italian tailoring brand Kiton launched its eyewear with a gourmet soiree at its Paris store on Friday night. Amid its suits, chef Nino di Costanzo served the best of Neapolitan cuisine, a nod to the brand’s southern Italian roots.
Over aubergine bruschetta and crunchy sfogliatella, the region’s cream-stuffed pastry, Kiton chief executive officer Antonio De Matteis explained: “The glasses are supposed to be like a good suit. Every piece is custom-made for us and carefully assembled one by one.”
The eight styles of optical frames and sunglasses in 12 colors are made of titanium and cellulose acetate that is produced for Kiton by Mazzucchelli. The frames’ screws mimic those of Kiton’s tailoring scissors, while the lenses come from Barberini.
According to De Matteis, it’s the first time this Italian optics specialist produced a lens as thin and as flat as this one. “It’s a so-called basic lens 2. Usually, the industry uses a lens 6, so this makes the glasses ultra-light, while keeping a high performance,” the executive explained.
The men’s collection, which retails between 400 euros, or $ 446 at current exchange, and 700 euros, or $ 782, is slated to grow by two to three styles per season, while a ladies’ line
