NY Governor Andrew Cuomo Requires Businesses To Deny Shoppers Without Masks

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Holds His Daily Coronavirus In Brooklyn

It seems that New York City might be on the brink of reopening within the coming weeks. But according to state officials, the new normal might not feel normal at all.

As spotted on Raw Story, New York State has a plan in mind for flipping the switch on The Big Apple. On Thursday, May 28 Governor Andrew Cuomo hosted a press conference. While the politician has delivered daily updates regarding COVID-19 this presentation had some notable points of difference. The Democrat was joined on stage by Brooklyn natives comedian Chris Rock and actress Rosie Perez. The trio encouraged citizens to wear masks and other forms of PPE to curtail infection spread. “Everybody, please, spread love the Brooklyn way, get tested, wear a mask,” Perez said. “Our governor is a rock star and he makes me proud to be from New York.” Chris also added on saying “Everybody that can get tested should get tested as soon as possible.”

Cuomo went on to further advise that everyone mask up for the betterment of mankind. “They are amazingly effective and we’ve made them mandatory in public settings,” Cuomo said of face coverings. “But when we’re talking about reopening stores and places of business, we’re giving the store owners the right to say if you’re not wearing a mask you can’t come in.” Yes you heard that right – you might have to wear a mask to go inside a coffee shop for your morning bagel.

While data shows that COVID-19 infections in New York City are slowly tapering down he still remains cautious. “We have a large state, and the COVID virus tends to attack those who are seniors and those who have underlying illnesses and will remain a cause of death for the foreseeable future, I’m afraid to say,” Cuomo said. “But we want to get this number down as low as possible.”

Back to the Future: Brands Bank on Old Favorites for a New Crop of Shoppers

LONDON — Fashion is having a flashback as retailers plunder brands’ archives and luxury giants revitalize their greatest hits — the Fendi Baguette, the Dior Saddle Bag, the Prada flame and banana prints, to name a few — and mine the past for future profits.
Versace continues to pump out pieces from its successful Tribute collection, an explosion of Nineties gold baroque prints and flashy hardware that debuted in Milan last year on supermodels including Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Carla Bruni and Claudia Schiffer.
Prada’s flame print has been licking its way across limited-edition tops and shoes, while Mr Porter revived the brand’s quirky bowling shirts in April. The Helmut Lang brand is reintroducing replicas of the original jeans the designer pioneered when he still helmed the brand, while Maison Alaïa is offering reeditions of designs from 1988, 1989 and 1993 on the brand’s web site.
Then there’s Marc Jacobs who, as reported, is this month set to deliver a full-on grunge collection for resort that harks back to his spring 1993 outing for Perry Ellis. Those seminal designs, which famously got him and his partner Robert Duffy fired, cemented Jacobs’ position as a maverick.Fine jewelry and sneaker brands are getting in on the action, too: Last year,

U.K. Shoppers Shun Brick-and-Mortar Retailers on Boxing Day

LONDON — Selfridges and Harrods may have seen record numbers of shoppers gathering outside their stores ahead of the annual Boxing Day sales on Dec. 26, but many British brick-and-mortar retailers suffered on the first day of the post-Christmas sales season, due partly to the impact of Black Friday.
According to Springboard, which gathers footfall and consumer data, Britain’s High Street retailers witnessed “challenging trading” conditions on Dec. 26, with footfall decreasing 4.5 percent year-over-year. “This was one of the most challenging Boxing Days that brick-and-mortar stores have seen since Springboard first published Boxing Day activity in 2012,” the company said.
“This undoubtedly reflects the extent of discounting that has already occurred, particularly over Black Friday, and also the growth in online trade this year,” said Diane Wehrle, Insights Director at Springboard.
“In addition to this, Black Friday now rivals Boxing Day in terms of the volume of footfall generated and so its influence as a key trading day in the retail calendar has been diluted. The extent of discounting, together with the fact that stores still account for around 80 percent of total spend, and that activity in brick-and-mortar stores declined, suggests that sales will be lower this year on what was traditionally

7 Secrets of Shoppers Who Never Pay Full Price

By Leah Melby, Glamour

(Photo: Kyle Ericksen)

A shopping addiction doesn’t have to be wallet-crippling–so long as you’re working it right and avoiding paying full price whenever possible. Immediate gratification–that gotta-have-that-now rush–is behind a lot of retail action, but if you’re patient enough, you just might reap the reward of crazy deals. Top shoppers know that scoring big is about a combination of waiting for sales, considering roundabout buying options, and stealthily stalking your target.

Secret 1: Price Compare. It sounds obvious, but too many people commit to buying without investigating whether the same item is available elsewhere for less. Do it yourself by cross-checking the item at various online department stores or let tech do the legwork. Shopstyle is revered within shopping circles for the way it brings up multiple places an item is listed for sale–including the one that’s slashed by 30 percent.

Secret 2: Don’t Write Off Resale. Consignment and resale sites and apps are having a major moment, all to the benefit of shoppers who now have a multitude of places to shop for preowned pieces that have been vetted by teams of professionals for authenticity and condition.

Secret 3: Be Patient. If you’ve had your eye on a pair of shoes or bag that are classics available season after season, wait out that lusty, must-buy-now moment until any of the year’s dependable sales roll around (the same goes for general items without brand specifics you’re craving, like a pair of leather leggings or a black cashmere crewneck). Department stores typically run a big percentage-off-everything sale every quarter or so; when you see that publicized, get ready to shop.

Secret 4: Practice Your eBay Skills. For buying or selling, eBay is a gold mine of opportunities (we broke it all down to help you get over any apprehensions). Along with pre-loved items, plenty of listings flash the Holy Grail of NWT–new with tags–meaning you can find the same stuff from store shelves at a way-reduced price.

Secret 5: Check Coupons. Coupon-clipping isn’t just for discount-happy types on reality shows: The bargain-hunting tactic is alive and well. Before you buy from any online site, do a quick Internet search with the store’s name and “coupon.” You’ll likely be directed to results from Retail Me Not or Coupons.com. The sites have duds but also plenty of money-saving working codes you otherwise would’ve totally miss out on.

Secret 6: Beef Up Your Shopping Tool Belt. Online shopping is a marvelous thing, with new technologically minded shopping aids popping up all the time. Familiarize yourself with them. Apps like Keep track items you want and ping you when the product goes on sale; Shopbop’s heart function catalogs everything you’ve admired, making it beyond easy to browse your favorites and check what’s been reduced.

Secret 7: ABS: Always Be Shopping. The quickest way to not get a deal is to realize you want something and immediately go out and get it. Instead, pro shoppers keep a mental list of things they’re hunting for and keep their eyes open, always. Make it a habit to cruise around the sale sections of any dot-coms or brick-and-mortars you visit because, truly, you never know what gems will be hiding.
