New York rapper Mims (real name Shawn Maurice Mims) is best known for dropping the earworm single “This Is Why I’m Hot” in 2006 … but it wasn’t until the spring of 2007 that Mims became a household name after the rap jam caught fire and went on…
A spin-off from the best-selling series Something So comes a whole brand of crazy & wild love stories. Zara Stone  All my life, I've said I will never date a hockey player. I know better because I've seen and lived it all. My father is a hockey god, my brother is the captain of the most successful NHL team in the world, and my brother-in-law also plays in the league. Their lives are complicated, so I went in the opposite direction.  I fell in love with a scholar. Los Angeles alternative artist De’Wayne filters genres as diverse as hip-hop, soul, and alt-rock into his own music — on full display in the call to arms ‘National Anthem,’ which he released this summer. He tells MTV News about it. News
Your sunscreen search needs a few filters. First, try using only broad-spectrum options since they block both types of cancerous, cell-mutating ultraviolet (UV) rays. Then, consider your lifestyle and preferred outdoor activities—because dads and climbers have different needs than beach bums and outdoorsmen. To help narrow the field, here are six sunscreens that cover these spectrums.
What’s the SPF sweet spot?
Anywhere between 30 and 50. Above 30, the level of SPF doesn’t increase exponentially. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. SPF 15 blocks 93 percent of rays, SPF 30 blocks 97 percent, SPF 50 blocks 98 percent, and SPF 100 blocks 99 percent.
Coola SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen
The summer sun can incite dread in some people—namely those whose fair skin burns instantly. A mineral SPF 50 sunscreen is the solution, since it blocks 98 percent of UV rays, while a pasty SPF 100 only ups the ante to 99-percent protection. COOLA’s formula is water resistant for 80 minutes, reef friendly, engineered for sensitive skin, and uses a mineral mix of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to block UV rays.
For guys who tan easily or who have mid-tone skin, SPF 30 is the bare minimum. Even though it offers slightly less defense against the sun’s rays (97 percent blocked versus 98 percent for SPF 50), this level of protection will still allow for effective tanning at a safe rate. Salt & Stone’s SPF 30 lotion delivers a chemical- and residue-free application that also nourishes skin with aloe, jojoba oil, Vitamin E, and more.
There’s a myth that darker skin tones need no sunscreen, since they don’t burn so easily. But without any SPF protection, the sun’s cancer-causing and skin-aging UV rays will still seep into the skin. EltaMD’s full-body SPF 50 is the singular best mineral defense and doesn’t leave a white cast on the skin. Plus, the chemical-free formula is water resistant for 80 minutes.
Art of Sport’s entire skincare assortment is engineered for athletes, and this SPF 50 lotion gives coverage to the heavy sweaters and surfers alike. It has high-grade water resistance up to 80 minutes—and that includes sweat resistance, too, for the runners, golfers, tennis players, and more. It wears light and prevents sweat from drying on the skin. This in turn thwarts painful sweat burns, a phenomenon that outdoor athletes know well.
If you need to pack one full-body sunscreen for repeat applications and thorough coverage, make it Jack Black’s. The lightweight, oil-free, non-greasy formula won’t leave you sweating, plus it uses zinc oxide to help deliver a nearly 98-percent sun shield. It provides 80 minutes of water and sweat resistance, and even nourishes skin with antioxidant-rich Vitamin C and soothing calendula. With it, the sun will complement your getaway, not compromise it.
Skiers, hikers, and residents of Denver know best: High altitudes yield the worst burns. So it’s worth getting a sunblock specifically for the face, since it has the most sensitive skin. The aloe- and Vitamin E-enriched mineral sunblock is the strongest and most soothing counter to sky-high rays, plus it goes on clear and is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes. Families love it, too, since kids also have sensitive skin—lather it on, every two hours.

I had trouble with the idea of turning 30 and was oversensitive to any signs of advancing age. When I found a prominent gray hair in my bangs, I
pointed to my forehead and asked my husband, “Oh no, have you seen this?”
If you haven’t buzzed your hair off this summer, then you’re probably looking for the best lightweight hair styling creams, sprays, and more for your new cut. The best men’s hair products won’t melt down onto your face, but they should let you still run your fingers through your ‘do. The group below offers a range of results depending on your hair type and needs. We picked a favorite in each field, from styling cream to pomade and dry shampoo, to make the purchase as easy as can be this summer.
Best for Light Hold and Taming Strays: Styling Cream
Cream is the quintessential lightweight styler, in that it has a barely-there feel but still helps you style your hair. It allows you to comb or coach your hair into whichever resting place you prefer, or to define curls and natural texture. And, while it’ll still blow in the wind, cream is cooperative and allows the hair to settle back into place. It’s also good for a light dusting over strays. It can even double as a beard tamer. Church California’s is packed with sea- and land-sourced plants, which nourish the hair while maintaining effortless, lightweight control.
Salt spray replicates the “surfer” texture you get after a swim in the ocean. (You know the feeling, where your hair is perfect and effortless no matter which way it settles.) Salt spray is terrific for light hold on its own, or as a last-step finishing touch following a cream. It can deliver choppy waves to short styles, or definition to curls and longer lengths. The best ones, like Fellow Barber’s, also nourish hair with ingredients like algae, which is rich in minerals.
Best for Curl Hydration and Definition: Leave-in Conditioner
Guys with naturally curly hair will often rely on balms to preserve hydration levels and maintain control over their style. A lighter option is a leave-in conditioner. It borders on being a hair cream, but it’s ultra lightweight and its key purpose is the nourishing and hydrating that helps curls look their best. Longer styles may demand a little balm to follow, but a nutrient-dense leave-in conditioner like Scotch Porter’s will handle the brunt of the taming. It also strengthens hair and works well as an overnight conditioner, for especially dry or damaged hair.
Best for High Hold and Texturized Volume: Dry Shampoo Wax
If what you want is high volume, choppy texture, and a matte finish, there is really just one summer-ready product that fits this bill: Hanz de Fuko’s innovative Quicksand. It’s a curious combination of gritty granules (diatomaceous earth) and hair wax, and it soaks up excess oil at the base of each hair shaft, while also delivering unparalleled texture and volume. Unlike other waxes, it wears lighter, and works well with styles between 1-3 inches. It’s especially great for that second or third day between shampoos, when the hair is lifeless and needs some bounce, but you aren’t ready to fully wash the strands just yet.
Hair paste is perhaps the most utilitarian product you can own. While it works best applied to towel-dried hair (to provide medium hold and light shine), it also works well for touch-ups and quick, glossy texture upon dry application. However, if you want to style your hair in any specific direction or straighten out some curls, simply comb it through damp hair and let it dry. Then, as it does, break it apart with your fingers to create texture and definition, or dismantle it entirely (without disrupting the direction you combed it) for a medium hold at the roots, while the strands themselves flow a bit more freely. You can blow dry it to maximize the hold, for a buttoned-up look that isn’t as polished as pomade. Oribe’s paste is ahead of the pack, and allows you to re-work the style throughout the day, with a splash of water and your fingertips (or a comb). You’ll be able to run your hands through the finished look, without compromising your intended result.
If you want to add shine to any other product, or if you just need a nourishing and frizz-fighting coat over each strand, then hair oil is your pick. Simply apply a few drops of oil to your palms and distribute evenly. Most of them use one or many oils that also neutralize the scalp and prevent bacteria, while delivering hair-strengthening nourishment to the hairs and follicles. And worry not, because they won’t give you an oily finish, so long as you only use a couple drops (or 3-4 in longer styles). You can even mix the oil into your paste or cream if you want to add a pinch of shine and light-catching definition. BluMaan’s vial is great in that it’s twice the size of most options, and it combines oils of sesame, sunflower, coconut, and olive to tame hair and restore or preserve healthy hydration levels.

NO GALA THIS YEAR: After months of speculation that this year’s Met Gala would be canceled, museum officials on Tuesday confirmed there will be no event in 2020.
The decision is part of an overall plan that includes the cancellation of talks, tours, concerts and events at The Met through the end of this year. The nixed plans are in line with the need to provide an environment that provides social distancing. The Met Gala and the other events are expected to be resumed by the museum next year. That will include a belated celebration of the museum’s 150th anniversary, according to a statement.
The 2021 gala will be focused on next year’s exhibition at the Costume Institute, which has not yet been revealed, according to a Met spokeswoman. In March, organizers indicated that they hoped to hold the 2020 Met Gala at a later date.
There is also the likelihood of reduced museum hours when the Met reopens. In accordance with New York state’s phased plan for reopening the city, the Metropolitan Museum of Art now plans to reopen in mid-August or perhaps a few weeks later. When the public returns to the museum, The Met will debut “Making the Met: 1870-2020.”

Young Chop has had an interesting few weeks that culminated into a couple of arrests, the most recent occurring two days ago this past Thursday (April 16). The Chicago producer, who now lives in Georgia, was arrested for the second time this month for violating his probation terms.
Local publication the Gwinnett Daily Postreports that Chop, real name Tyree Pitman, was arrested but officials have yet to reveal what led to the announcement of the probation violation charge. The 26-year-old producer is listed as a resident of Peachtree Corners, a suburb of Atlanta that rests northeast of the city.
Back on April 7, Chop was arrested for reckless conduct, driving without a license and for having expired tags, this after being seen on social media searching for 21 Savage in the rapper’s old neighborhood with Chop stoking the fires of the beef he first began on Instagram.
On February 26, Chop was arrested for a misdemeanor aggravated cruelty to animals-death charges. Chop also was seen on a home surveillance camera shooting a firearm at unknown assailants from the porch of his Georgia home.

The Wu-Tang Clan shifted the recording industry in the 1990s by not only emerging as an unstoppable collective but also securing solo deals for the nine members of the group’s top tier. Ol’ Dirty Bastardemerged as a star for the New York crew by way of his debut album Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version, which was released 25 years ago today (March 28).
RZA, GZA, the aforementioned Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, and Masta Killa transformed the Hip-Hop landscape with their debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in 1993. The single “Protect Your Neck,” which introduced much of the world to the Wu Swordsman, featured a verse from ODB that, alongside Method Man’s scene-stealing turn, burned itself into the memory of fans for good reason.
Hip-Hop fans approached ODB’s solo album with hopes that it would feature more of the same left-field styled coupled with the “what will he do next” personality the rapper born Russell Jones became famous for. They were not disappointed on that front.
After an intro that puts all of the zaniness of ODB at the front of the mind for the listeners, “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” blares through with RZA’s signature thump and ODB’s performance set the tone early. The following track “Baby C’Mon” features more of that Ruler Zig Zag Zig Allah dust, and the album’s first single “Brooklyn Zoo” sounds as timeless as ever with True Master delivering one of the few tracks not helmed by The Abbot.
Rapping in stunted growling grunts and breaking into off-key song at times where it doesn’t even make sense, ODB appeared larger than life. He instantly became an undeniable presence across the album, most certainly propelled by RZA’s guidance on the tracks. The production is decidedly muddy as if it were recorded in a Brooklyn closet; the bass bleeds on even the best-quality speakers and it sounds that this was the intention.
By the time listeners reached “Raw Hide,” there are still dips and turns left in ODB’s rap arsenal:
Tired of sittin’ on my f*ckin ass N*ggas I know be runnin’ around with mad f*ckin’ cash Who the f*ck wanna be an emcee If you can’t get paid to be a f*ckin’ emcee? I came out my momma p*ssy, I’m on welfare Twenty-six years old, still on welfare So I gotta get paid fully Whether it’s truthfully or untruthfully
In past interviews, Method Man stated that a bulk of the album consisted of old rhymes from RZA and GZA’s rhyme books but he did admit that ODB did know how to write his own verses. But because of his voice, style and natural charisma, it didn’t matter what the source of the lyrics, especially with the level of performance ODB presented across the album.
A remastered version of Return to the 36 Chambers has been released to commemorate the 25 years since its release, along with a mini-documentary from Amazon Music that features words from RZA, Raekwon, his widow, Icelene Jones, and his son Barson “Young Dirty Bastard” Jones. ODB is a sorely missed voice in Hip-Hop and would probably still find a way to bulldoze his way onto the airwaves despite the genre’s many shifts in sounds in the years since his untimely passing.
For now, we’ll hold on tight to the audio memory of Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Hopefully, tonight somewhere in ODB’s beloved “Brooklyn Zoo,” a 40 or two will be cracked, safely indoors of course, with the speakers blasting the record in Ason Unique Allah’s honor.
What is the story behind your handbag? Parker Clay, an emerging leather goods company, designs its products in California and manufactures them in Ethiopia—and unlike most brands, the story of how the bags get made means everything to Parker Clay.
Over 130 employees work at its Ethiopian factory, and 96 of them are women. Of these women, 32 were found through Parker Clay’s partnership with the non-profit Christian women’s rights organization Ellilta—Women at Risk. The organization’s goal is to bring women out of prostitution—which is both legal and widespread in Ethiopia—and find them skills training and employment in safe, sustainable trade industries, like leather goods.
Parker Clay’s founders, Ian and Brittany Bentley, wanted to create such an environment for Ethiopian women. Its factory in Addis Ababa gives its artisans higher wages and more benefits, including laundry facilities, access to transportation, vacation time, and pension, pursuing the company’s goal of combining human rights advocacy with sustainable, superior goods.
Each of Parker Clay’s products—handbags, totes, wallets, backpacks, etc.—is hand-woven on a loom with weaving practices unique to Ethiopian culture. Need something to do while you’re social distancing locked down in your home, Capcom got you. The company announced the demo for the remake of Resident Evil 3 is arriving this week.
On March 19th, PlayStation 4, Xbox One X, and PC owners will be able to download the Resident Evil 3 demo and play as Jill Valentine and try to escape Racoon City and the insanely dangerous Nemesis. In a blog post announcing the demo’s release date, Capcom reveals the Resident Evil 3 will focus on the action more but warns you not to go wasting ammo.
“While there’s a bit more focus on action in Resident Evil 3 compared to last year’s Resident Evil 2, you won’t want to go in guns blazing – it may be a demo, but you’ll need to conserve your ammo and items if you want to stand a chance of surviving.”
The demo wasn’t the only thing announced, Capcom also revealed when players could partake in the open beta for Resident Evil Resistance, the online co-op horror game that takes place in the RE universe. Things will officially kick off on March 27 and will allow players to try out four of the games six survivors and a single “mastermind” named Daniel Fabron. The Resistance Beta will be available until launch.

There’s an unfathomable number of skincare brands lining the shelves of department stores, and just as many online-only companies dominating the internet. But with all these products vying for your attention, we’ll bet you’re most apt to reach for the products you’ve used since college—no doubt introduced to you by a significant other. Probably a bar of Dove soap and CeraVe moisturizer. (Are we close?) There’s certainly nothing wrong with these; they’re gentle and cleansing, but your skincare can do more for your mug. Enter personalized grooming brand Hawthorne.
The direct-to-consumer company launched in 2016, initially with fragrances. Then, it infiltrated other bathroom staples like deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, lotion, and even candles. The most recent launch includes facial cleansers and lotions. To mitigate the risk of blindly shopping for a new signature scent sans smelling and/or knowing the needs of your skin, Hawthorne employs an online quiz, powered by an artificial intelligence algorithm.
You’ll answer questions addressing your skin type (if it’s dry, oily, or sensitive), main concerns/problems (whether you want to open clogged pores, ward off wrinkles, or get a deep clean), hygiene rituals (how often you shower), age, and personal considerations (your personality archetype, drink of choice, work environment).
According to Hawthorne, they’ve got a success rate of over 97 percent, with less than a one percent return rate. Not bad, huh?
Their new lineup of cleansers includes five options, all made with natural (usually plant-based) ingredients:
All-Natural Face Cleanser: bergamot, centella asiatica, and calendula clear the skin of dirt and excess oil Sensitive Face Cleanser: centella asiatica, aloe, and glycerin comprise this fragrance-free formula to gently hydrate Dry Skin Conditioning Cleanser: aloe and centella asiatica lightly foam to remove impurities without sucking away moisture Hydrating Face Cleaner: aloe and centella asiatica help cells drink in moisture for skin that looks and feels healthy Exfoliating Face Cleanser: aloe, charcoal, and soapbark deep-clean pores to extract dirt and buff skin
The face lotions work in tandem with the cleansers; each has a complement:
All-Natural Face Lotion: jojoba, shea butter, avocado oil, and centella asiatica nurture normal to combination skin (subtly scented with geranium and chamomile) Sensitive Skin Face Lotion: ceramides, vitamin B3, and aloe calm easily aggravated skin (fragrance-free) Lightweight Face Lotion: sodium hyaluronate, aloe, and vitamin B3 make up this non-greasy moisturizer to balance out oily skin Moisturizing Face Lotion: aloe, calendula, and centella asiatica help normal to dry skin get the hydration it needs Ultra Rich Face Lotion: almond oil, centella asiatica, and shea butter keep this medium-weight lotion ultra-hydrating to help dry skin drink in moisture
Thinking About Getting a Hair Transplant? Here’s Everything You Need to Know
It’s a moment any watch owner would dream of having: You’re on Antiques Roadshow with a Rolex Oyster Cosmograph watch you bought in 1974 for $ 345.97, waiting for the appraiser to let you know how much it’s worth. You’re hoping for a little bit of extra value; wouldn’t it be nice to see that it’s now worth 20 times as much? Maybe even 50 times? How about over 1,000 times as much?
That’s what one former Air Force member found himself dealing with when Antiques Roadshow appraiser Peter Planes told him how much his old watch was worth during a stop on the show’s tour in Bonanzaville, which is located in West Fargo, N.D, according to The Washington Post.
Planes says that the watch resembles the now-iconic one that Paul Newman wore, and that those watches are “going for $ 150,000 to $ 200,000. Your watch is more special: It says Oyster on it. They did that for an extremely short period of time… This particular model marked Oyster is extremely rare. A watch like this at auction is worth about $ 400,000 dollars.”
When Planes said the words $ 400,000 dollars, all the man could do was fall to the floor. Watch the video here:
That wasn’t the end of it either: It turns out that his watch could fetch even more than what it’s worth at auction—so long as he doesn’t wear it.

‘Tis the season…for Hollywood red-carpet prep!
There will be parties for hosting, blockbusters for toasting and campaigning ahead of the show — it truly is the most wonderful time of the year. But, like this holiday shopping season, this awards season is compressed. Two weeks shorter than last year’s lead-up to the Oscars, the accelerated schedule has stylists and designers working overtime, all in the name of glam.
Tom Ford has already thrown down the gauntlet by moving his runway show from New York Fashion Week to Los Angeles, hosting it on Feb. 7, two days ahead of the Feb. 9 Oscars. And he’s likely to have a banner year because of it. (Rather than a runway show, he could just have had his fall collection modeled by nominees walking the Oscars red carpet and saved a step.)
But there’s still a lot of spotlight before then. This week, nominees were revealed for the Golden Globes (Jan. 5), Critics Choice Awards (Jan. 13) and SAG Awards (Jan. 19). And, with so much streaming content from Netflix, Amazon, Apple and the like, it seems as if there is a record number of A-list women to be dressed, including Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Phoebe Waller-Bridge,
How’s this for exclusive: On Saturday, Christie’s auctioned off a one-of-a-kind, never worn Patek Philippe watch, and the luxury timepiece sold for a record-breaking 31 million Swiss francs, or $ 31.1 million. That’s the highest price ever paid for an auctioned timepiece, and it beats the previous record by roughly $ 7.8 million, according to CNN.
The watch, a Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime 6300A-010, was specially made for this auction. According to a statement from Christie’s, it’s the only version of the timepiece ever produced in stainless steel, and it’s reversible, featuring two dial plates made from 18-carat gold with gold applied Breguet numerals on the time side. There are 20 complications in total, including five chiming modes, a day/night indicator, and day/date on both dials. The case measures 47.7mm in diameter, and it’s held in place with a sleek black hand-stitched alligator leather band. And just in case you forget how rare this ticker is, it’s marked with the inscription “the only one.”
An anonymous buyer purchased the watch on Saturday, and the final sale blew past the watch’s estimated price of $ 2.5 to $ 3 million, according to data from Christie’s. Interestingly, the previous record was also held by a Patek Philippe watch: That went to a vintage model made in 1932 that sold for 23.2 million Swiss francs in a 2014 Sotheby’s auction, CNN reports.
The Grandmaster was one of 50 timepieces auctioned during Only Watch, a biannual event to raise money for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic disease that causes muscle deterioration. Overall, the event raised over $ 38 million for the cause—the bulk of it coming from just one ultra rare, incredibly expensive watch.
Fall is shaping up to be a strong season in the contemporary market. Although the season got off to a slow start with unusually warm weather, business now appears to be percolating at retail – and the cold snap across much of the country over recent days could add a further fillip.
Modern suiting, novelty knits, straight and wide-leg silhouettes in pants, midi-skirts, faux fur jackets, leather dressing, animal prints and tie-dyed styles are among the looks that are selling well around the country, according to a spot check of retailers.
Store executives said vendors are offering a lot of the innovation in the market this fall, and that customers are experimenting with new looks to spruce up their wardrobes.
“Business has been strong. I think the styles this year and the trends are very enticing and new and are something they don’t have,” said Samantha Greenes, buying director of Blue & Cream, which has two stores in East Hampton and Manhattan, in addition to an online business. She said that contemporary designers have elevated their styles and trends so it’s more attractive to people who might have bought designer.
Here’s what stores had to say.
