Kim Kardashian West is keeping it real.
Her new lineup of Skims Solutionwear models is out and it includes real women — like former inmate Alice Marie Johnson.

Kardashian West found out about Johnson and her story by way of social media in 2017. The sixtysomething Tennessee woman had been sentenced to life in prison plus 25 years without the possibility of parole in 1996 on nonviolent drug charges.
According to a representative for Kardashian West, “Kim was moved to take action.” The reality star and entrepreneur even paid a trip to the Oval Office to ask President Trump to grant Johnson clemency. Johnson was freed on June 6, 2018.
Now Johnson is making her modeling debut.

Wolk Morais Collection 8 Film Uses Old Hollywood Inspiration, New Hollywood Models

“Our favorite look is not here because it’s with Cate Blanchett,” says Brian Wolk during a walk-through of his new Wolk Morais collection designed with Claude Morais, at the duo’s Hollywood bungalow home-studio.
The designers’ love affair with Los Angeles continues with their eighth collection — spring 2020 — debuting in a short film format, and inspired by a mood board full of old Hollywood screen and wardrobe test images starring Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Sharon Tate, Marlon Brando and more.
“We’ve been using Los Angeles as our muse, backdrop and scenic inspiration and we felt it was time to speak the language of the city,” says Wolk, referencing previous collections, one shown at Hollywood’s historic Yamashiro Japanese restaurant, another inspired by California’s mid-century “California Cool” art movement, another by its private school-going “teenage bourgeoisie.” “Also, it was really fun to cast…we got to call all of our crazy eccentric friends and get them to participate,” he said of the short film’s lineup of Lydia Hearst, Moon Unit Zappa, Aimee Garcia, Rebecca Walker, Monica Abanonu and more.
While many may associate Los Angeles fashion with streetwear or rock ‘n’ roll, the Wolk Morais designers have been zeroing in on tailoring as a specialty,

Why ‘Empire’ Uses The F-Word But Not The N-Word

There has been some discussion around the slurs used on “Empire.” At a panel at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas, Saturday, the TV drama’s co-creator Danny Strong talked about forbidden language on network TV, explaining why writers avoided a racial epithet for black people but used one for gay men.

Terrence Howard, the show’s star, had come out saying using the former is needed to make the show more authentic. “I’m mad that we don’t say n– in the show,” he told Entertainment Weekly in February. “Why is TV showing something different from the reality of the world? Why is there a thing called censorship that stop people from hearing everyday talk? We use n– every day. It’s become part of a conversation—why aren’t we using it in the show?”

Strong insisted that was not necessary. “It’s not a documentary about hip-hop,” he said Saturday, addressing Howard’s comments. “It’s a soap opera that takes place in the hip-hop world.”

Toward the end of the panel, an audience member asked Strong why he felt comfortable using a particular gay slur, if the N-word was off-limits in the writer’s room. In the scene in question, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) shouts at Lucious (Terrence Howard). “I want to show you a f– really can run this company,” she says, referencing their gay son Jamal (Jussie Smollett) taking control of the company.

“That was really important to [co-creator] Lee [Daniels], in particular, who is gay,” Strong said. “The idea is that she is throwing his homophobia back in his face… So to use one of the most offensive slurs is a powerful way to do that.”

In Kony Hunt, US Uses Pop Music to Court Defectors

In Kony Hunt, US Uses Pop Music to Court DefectorsThree and a half years after President Barack Obama sent 100 special operations troops to Africa to help root out Lord’s Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony – so far unsuccessfully – the broader U.S.-supported international anti-LRA team has resorted to using a truly unstoppable force against the alleged war criminal: pop music. Chameleone composed the song in 2013 at the behest of U.S. embassy officers who were looking for innovative ways to reach would-be defectors, according to Marty Regan, a field representative for the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations in Uganda. “I am simply waiting for my brothers in the LRA to come home.

Ricky Martin uses music to tackle trafficking of children

Ricky Martin performs at the iHeartRadio Theater Los Angeles in Burbank, CaliforniaThirty years after Ricky Martin got his start in music in the Puerto Rican kids' group "Menudo," the Grammy-winning singer uses his music and celebrity to help fight against the trafficking of children. Fresh off a new album, "A Quien Quiera Escuchar," the 43-year-old Martin said he relishes getting in front of a crowd to talk about children forced into prostitution and pornography. Why Mom Works Two Jobs To Support Her Grown Son Who Uses Drugs (VIDEO)

After serving time for drug trafficking (38 months of a 45-year sentence), Tony moved back in with his mom, Linda. But Tony, 32, continues to use drugs, and his mom refuses to kick him out. Tony’s sister, Andreya, turns to Dr. Phil for help.

“My mother is the biggest enabler in the world,” says Andreya, explaining that their 68-year-old mom works two jobs to pay all the bills, including for his truck, keeps the refrigerator stocked, and even wakes him up in the morning for work. Andreya, who recently caught Tony snorting drugs in his mom’s home, says, “My brother is a junkie. He’s a loser … My mother knows that he is a drug addict but she turns a blind eye.”

Linda, who claims to never have seen Tony do drugs, says all she wants to do is take care of her baby. “My son Tony is a mama’s boy. I’m going to take care of him. I’m going to make his life easier,” she admits. “I love having Tony around. If it weren’t for Tony being here I would be talking to my dog all by myself.” She explains, “I can’t kick him out. Where’s he going to eat? Where’s he going to sleep?”

In the video above, both women share their perspectives and then Dr. Phil steps in. Watch more from this episode and find out if Linda will stop supporting her son’s lifestyle before he ends up back in prison or dead.
