The Most Subtle Scents for Guys Who Don’t Wear Cologne

Why risk your reputation on a scent, when you can just blend into the crowd? You’re the guy who prefers unscented body wash, fragrance-free shave cream, baking-soda toothpaste, and neutral-but-neutralizing deodorant. You would rather smell like nothing than potentially polarize someone with a perfumed product. And there’s nothing wrong with that; it’s far better than smelling bad and much safer than taking a gamble on expensive but not-so-great colognes. (And maybe you just don’t trust your own taste in picking a high-investment fragrance like that. Which is also a legitimate concern.)

Assuming you’re not totally averse to scent and are merely playing it safe, then perhaps you’re willing to try one on for size. Every person should have a signature scent, even if he or she doesn’t wear it on a signature (that is, daily) basis. You should have it at the ready for special occasions or important impressions. If this is your first foray into fragrances, well, you’re in good hands.

The Best Grooming Products That Use the Calming Powers of Sage

The best colognes for you should be subtle and simple. The fragrances shouldn’t call attention to themselves, but make a solid impression—albeit an understated one. Here are seven such scents, each worthy of being your not-so-flagrant go-to.

Also, as a rule of thumb, if you want a subtle scent: Shop for EDTs (Eau de Toilettes) instead of EDPs (Eau de Parfums). EDTs are made with lower concentrations of perfume oils and thus are less pronounced or wear away faster than EDPs. However, the EDPs we’ve included below are chosen for their subtlety or because they’re universally adored for their simplicity.

Andy Samberg Has the Perfect Spring Haircut. Here’s How to Get It

Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 EDT

A cult favorite in the fragrance world, Escentric Molecules‘ Molecule 01 takes a single ingredient—the mysterious “aromachemical” Iso E Super—and allows the scent to work its magic on your skin. That chemical reaction, between the sandalwood-like scent and your own personal musk, makes for a very understated but pleasant result. It will wear differently on each person, but it always remains subtle. (Don’t be surprised if, at first huff, you smell nothing from the fragrance. Just let it breathe on your skin. Others will notice it.)

[$ 135 for 3.4 oz.; bloomingdales.com]

L’Artisan Parfumeur Tea for Two EDT

One of the more complex scents on this roster, L’Artisan Parfumeur‘s Tea for Two combines various spicy accords with notes of tea, honey, and vanilla. It’s a terrific winter fragrance, or a signature scent for someone with a quiet but comforting presence. That’s its effect, too: quiet, but comforting—like afternoon tea with your partner in crime.

[$ 160 for 3.4 oz.; saksfifthavenue.com]

Coqui Coqui Tabaco EDP

Known for their few-ingredient recipes and subtle lavishness, Coqui Coqui’s scents recall verdant vacations. Their Tabaco scent, in particular, relies single-handedly on tobacco notes for a flavorful finish—but not one that might polarize like a cloud of smoke. It’s rousing but doesn’t wear so strong that you turn heads for the wrong reason.

[$ 72 for 1.7 oz.; anthropologie.com]

Clean Shower Fresh for Men EDP

If you’re looking for subtlety, then one of the best fragrance families to shop is “fresh” scents. It’s not that they all wear lightly or linger any less; instead, fresh fragrances smell like a spring day, or clean laundry, or a well-ventilated home. And Clean’s own Shower Fresh scent combines citrus, floral, and wood notes for a balanced, mood-lifting finish. It lasts well into the work day but never pronounces itself across the office.

[$ 72 for 2 oz.; sephora.com]

Claus Porto Musgo Real Classic Scent EDT

It might not come immediately to mind, but a barbershop actually has loads of favorable scent associations. Aftershaves usually have notes of sandalwood or eucalyptus that soothe your skin and senses. In its Musgo Real shave line, Claus Porto bottles this sensation—especially in its Classic assortment, which showcases notes of sandalwood, patchouli, and vanilla. This cologne might smell like an aftershave, but that’s a good thing. Plus, it wears light and casts a short but delicious radius.

[$ 70 for 3.4 oz.; clausporto.com]

Courtesy Image

Calvin Klein CK One EDT

A lead candidate for your “One” scent, Calvin Klein’s universally loved CK One combines light citrus and sweet notes with the depth of musk, amber, and nutmeg. At its core, though, is the uplifting power of green tea, making One a well-rounded, stimulating scent—but also one that never oversteps its boundaries.

[$ 64 for 3.4 oz.; calvinklein.us]

Courtesy Image

Prada Luna Rossa Carbon EDT

Luna Rossa Carbon gets its alluring powers from fresh lavender, crisp bergamot, pronounced pepper, intoxicating patchouli, sweet amber… as well as smoky coal and a futuristic metallic accord. It’s this oddball assortment that creates a pleasant balance—one fit for a signature scent and a conversation starter. This fragrance will get noticed a bit more than the others on this list—never negatively nor too loudly—but it’ll also convert you to a full-time fragrance wearer, if that’s the end goal.

The Only Socks You’ll Ever Want to Wear

Once you’ve slipped on a pair of premium, cushioned, no-slip socks, you can never go back to the low-quality junk. While other clothing essentials like casual tees are more a matter of style preference and comfort, socks require a degree of performance. It’s worth asking some relevant questions before restocking your sock drawer. Like what’s the warmest material for an alpine hike? Which pair boasts the optimal amount of compression for a 14-hour flight? And for God’s sake, is there a no-show sock that won’t slide down the heel?

Keegan-Michael Key on ‘Subtle-izing’ His Style and Getting Comfortable in His Own Skin

The right sock can boost athletic performance, promote healthy hygiene, and even foster confidence when you’re wearing a slick ‘fit. Of course, there’s the fashion element, too. Chances are—but we wouldn’t judge if otherwise—that your socks will have a lot more eyes on them than your favorite pair of boxer briefs. We’d lean in further to say that your choice of color, print, and pattern—or lack thereof—can be considered a visual language that offers insight into your personality. At the end of the day, we’re all different. Some guys wouldn’t be caught dead wearing white tube socks with a dressy outfit. (We concur.) Others can’t wear a leather loafer without some sort of sock barrier. (We feel the same.)

No one should have to replenish their sock selection each season, so we’ve tried and tested over 30 quality pairs, across a spectrum of brands and budgets, to identify the only socks you’ll ever want to wear. It’s time to finally give this wardrobe essential the attention it deserves.

Gold Medal Ski-Lodge Style: The Best Après-ski Looks for Men

Best Athletic Socks: Odlo CERAMICOOL STABILIZER Quarter Socks

Odlo hails from Italy and caters to active folks, a solid hint that their socks are stylish and made with superior construction. And boy do their socks really perform. The Ceramicool collection, in particular, features a lightweight fabric with “ceramic microparticle technology” to quickly cool and keep feet dry. It’s actually proven to lower skin temperature by almost two degrees—perfect for extended runs or hot outdoor workouts. We love the slight compression from the quarter length model. The padding in the toe area also softens the blow during box jumps and other high-impact moves.

Best Lightweight No-Show Socks: Ermenegildo Zegna Mesh Cotton No-Show Socks

Sometimes no-show socks are lumped into one category—but what if you want to flash some ankle while wearing a fine leather shoe and a rolled trouser cuff? Even if they achieve the objective to be invisible, a thicker cushioned sock can feel cramped. In comes Ermenegildo Zegna with their cotton no-show socks. The mesh construction is so lightweight, you’ll barely notice them underneath your loafers. Knowing that there’s nothing more annoying than a sock slipping down the heel, Zegna included eight thin gel panels to keep them in place. The socks’ low-cut silhouette dips completely below the ankle, almost entirely underfoot, guaranteeing there won’t be an unwanted peek-a-boo situation above the brim of your shoe.

[$ 65 for three pairs; zegna.us]

Best Cushioned No-Show Socks: Bombas Men’s Cushioned No-Show Socks

Casual kicks deserve Bombas no-show threads. They always stay below the rim of the shoe and don’t unravel down your foot. The contoured shape makes it feel like a second pair of skin, and there’s a thin, but noticeable cushioned layer at the sole for extra comfort. If your feet have a tendency to get sweaty, Bombas makes these in an even more breathable merino wool that’ll keep moisture and potential stink at bay. Best of all, Bombas donates a pair for every one purchased.

Best Compression Socks: Comrad Companion Compression Socks

We’d preach all day about compression socks if we could—and not just for long flights or marathon runs. We keep coming back to Comrads. Unlike other brands that have a death grip on your feet, we’re never in a rush to take them off once the plane lands. They’re lax enough for everyday use, but provide a squeeze from the calf all the way down to the arch to prevent potential swelling. You don’t need to be a performance athlete, frequent flier, or sufferer of blood clots to see the benefits to your circulation and overall health with these. If you don’t like knee-highs or have thicker calves, Comrad has you covered with ankle versions and wide-calf models.

[$ 29; comradsocks.com]

Best Dress Socks: Falke Family Socks

Falke’s Family collection skews dressy, but they can absolutely be worn for any occasion—and that’s why we love them. Sure, you could opt for the pricier cashmere blend, but why not purchase a low-maintenance pair that you’ll wear more often? The globally admired German sockmaker actually began as a knitting mill back in 1895, and its family founders still run the company. Because of its origins, you can count on their high-quality fabrics to be luxurious, but where Falke really excels is the fit. The elastic is not too tight, and expert tailoring means you’ll never experience any budging at the toes, bunching at the heel, or roll-downs at the calf. Plus, reinforced stress zones will keep the fabric snug and intact along the entire form. The German-made Family collection comes in a spectrum of solid colors, reinforcing the classic, versatile look from workday to Saturday soirée.

Best Hiking Socks: Darn Tough Hiker Micro Crew Cushion

As the temperature dips or if you’re heading out on a hike, wool socks should be your go-to. The cozy comfort you’ll get from breathable merino wool is unparalleled, as are the moisture-wicking abilities that keep feet dry, warm, and fresh for days at a time—days! Vermont-based Darn Tough designs the pair we’re raving about: the Micro Crew Cushion Hiking Socks. There’s no bulk here, and since the socks are shrink-treated, you needn’t fret about strictly hand-washing or hang-drying. As the name suggests, these guys are darn tough.

[$ 23; darntough.com]

Best Everyday Socks: Happy Socks Dressed Cocktail Sock

If we’re not wearing a sock for a specific function or activity, we want them to reflect our mood. No other brand seems to capture our wild internal dialogues like Happy Socks. The Swedish minds behind the unconventional designs are constantly rolling out new styles and patterns across all their standard collections and limited editions. Stripes and polka dots are just the beginning here. Happy Socks are made for any occasion: Wear the popcorn print to the movies or the martini glass motif to happy hour.

Who What Wear Launches Apparel, Footwear and Accessories Line in U.K.

LONDON — Who What Wear, the California-based fashion and shopping platform, is expanding its retail arm in London with dedicated apparel, footwear and accessories collections, WWD has learned.
Debuting this month, Who What Wear will launch its apparel exclusively with Zalando for three months, and footwear in-store and online exclusively with Selfridges, until Feb. 17. Afterward, footwear will also be made available on Asos and Zalando.
“We launched the U.K. site four years ago, so it has really established itself. It felt like a good time now that we have a strong foothold. We will follow some of the same DNA that we are famous for on our site and in our Target collection,” said Sally Mueller, chief brand officer of Who What Wear.
Who What Wear, which started out as an online style and shopping guide, expanded into apparel in the U.S. in 2016 selling exclusively at Target.
The company is now reaching across the Atlantic, with a separate U.K. collection that won’t be available in the U.S. The Who What Wear team said the U.K. collection is different from its American counterpart and has a higher price point, averaging 120 pounds per piece.
Mueller described the U.K. collection as much more fashion-forward. “We believe

Saxx’s New Sleepwear Will Make You Want to Wear Pajamas Again

I don’t usually get too picky about what I wear to bed. For me, “pajamas” means a pair of old gym shorts and a tank top. But now that Saxx—purveyor of comfy men’s underwear—has released a new line of sleep- and loungewear, I decided to do something I haven’t done in at least a decade: Sleep in clothes that were actually designed for sleeping. The verdict? I’ve been missing out.

The Best Anti-chafing Athletic Underwear for Athletes

What It Is:

The new collection includes the Snooze Pant, Sleepwalker Pant, and Sleepwalker top, available in both long and short-sleeve versions. The Snooze is a jogger-style pant with a drawstring waist and a tapered fit around the calves and ankles. The Sleepwalker Pant is closer to a pair of underwear, with a BallPark pouch and a more relaxed fit through the legs. The Sleepwalker tops also have a relaxed fit. They’re also tagless, which is greatly appreciated. They’re all crafted from a blend of modal (a natural fiber derived from beech trees) and spandex, which makes them soft and also very stretchy. They’ve got the Saxx hallmarks you love, like flat seams that are soft against your skin.

saxx
The Sleepwalker Pant Courtesy of Saxx

Grooming Essentials, But Better: 22 Carefully Curated Products

Why We Like It:

All of these items are incredibly soft and comfortable (yes, even softer than my tried-and-true tank top and gym shorts). I also appreciated their flexibility and stretchiness, which meant they didn’t snag or constrict me no matter how much I tossed and turned in bed. Another big asset: They breathe well. I never wear pants to bed, even in the winter, because I can’t sleep if I’m too hot. But the Saxx pants and T-shirt were still comfortable even in my southern California apartment, which has no AC and averages around 78 degrees at night. I especially liked wearing the Snooze Pant while lounging around in the evening. The tapered fit felt supportive around my legs, and I liked the more trim look they provide.

saxx
The Snooze Pant Courtesy of Saxx

Nitpick:

Although all the items were comfortable, the long sleeve shirt and pants combo was definitely too much coverage for me. I needed more bare skin to feel the breeze from the fan in my room. But for sleeping in colder weather (or if you just run cold at night), the long sleeve tee is a good option. Also note that these are best worn inside your home. I felt OK wearing the Snooze pants while letting my dog out in the morning, but I wouldn’t venture past my front door in the Sleepwalkers, which really do feel and look like underwear.

5 Colognes You Can Wear Without Overwhelming Your Office

When you find a cologne you love, you want to wear it wherever you go: to the grocery store, while you run errands, to the office—basically every time you step outside of your house. But there are more than a few men’s fragrances that are super heady, and have woody, floral or earthy scents that can be way too overpowering for your colleagues at work.

6 Anti-aging Products That'll Save Your Skin

So if you’ve noticed that your coworkers have been keeping their distance ever since you started dousing yourself in a new scent, or if you’ve seen a subtweet or two that could be about you, that’s their (not-so-subtle) way of telling you that you may need to make a change. And while it may be a pain to give your newfound fragrance a break, think of it this way: you spend more time with the people who share your office than you do with anyone else, and it quite literally pays to keep them happy.

Scroll through the following pages to find a handful of options that will not only satisfy your tastes, but also make your presence a little less known around the office—in the very best way possible.

Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme Eau de Toilette

Citrus notes and just the right amount of floral and wood scents come together to make this distinctive scent. This original Dolce & Gabbana cologne is a perennial favorite and we’re almost sure it will become one of your own.

Bulgari Man Eau de Toilette Spray for Men

The Best New Sunglasses You Can Wear on Any Adventure

Whether you’re heading out on a long bike ride or lounging by the pool, no outdoor summer activity is complete without a good pair of shades. And if you’ve been toting around the same frames for years—or your good pair went overboard at the lake last season—now’s the perfect time to upgrade. Brands are rolling out their newest spring and summer sunglasses, so you have plenty of great options to choose from.

Lose Weight in Time for Summer With One of These Top-Rated Fat Burners

Although they fall into the “accessory” category, a good pair of frames is really an essential. They can make or break an outfit, says Courtney Mays, stylist for NBA player Kevin Love.

“Sunglasses are the final touch to complete a look,” she says. “They add that instant cool factor, even if you’re in sweats.”

When picking out a new pair, focus on fit, shape, and style, Mays advises. Look for frames that fit your head well (and stay put when you wear them), and opt for a shape and style that matches your wardrobe and personality. The best way to determine what works is to visit a store and try on frames, she says. Once you find a shape you like, you can experiment with different materials and colors.

Already have a pair of shades in your drawer? Add to your collection by branching out into new styles.

“Go for a color, lens, or metal you wouldn’t normally choose,” Mays says.

The Under-$100 J.Crew and Nike Sneakers You’ll Want to Wear All Year Long

Spring is that time of year when you go to grab your white sneakers but realize you wore them to the point where half of your shoe separates every time you take a step, the laces are about to snap, and cleaning them off just won’t do the trick anymore. In short, it’s time to invest in a new pair of kicks.

And if you’re like us, you want a pair of sneakers that look cool enough to wear with your favorite dress shirt and, once it’s Friday at 5 p.m., that vintage tee you scored on the cheap a few years ago.

J.Crew Nike Killshot 2 shoes
Courtesy J.Crew

Sure, there are tons of great white sneakers that fit the bill you can easily buy online right now. But no one really wants to drop money on a pair that doesn’t quite nail that perfect mix of dressy-meets-casual without looking like you’re heading to the gym for a bodyweight workout. Good news: J.Crew launched its new J.Crew x Nike Killshot 2 sneakers this month, and you can finally buy them online (well, if you’re not trying to buy a size 13).

J.Crew Nike Killshot 2 Sneakers

Yes, you’ve seen them before, but the brand revamped one of its best-selling pairs of kicks this time around with what it calls a “sail green” swoosh logo. The suede-and-leather upper serves up some simple style with just the right amount of color, which makes them a little easier to dress up or down—we think they’ll look cool with that new spring suit. And if you’re not completely sold on that green Nike logo, you can still get them in the go-to navy-and-white version for the same price. They’re 90 bucks, but they’re the kind of shoes you’ll want to wear until they completely fall apart—that is, if you can get them before they sell out again.

But as you’ll see below, there are lots of great options to choose from. Picking the right polo for you depends on a few different variables, so we reached out to stylists for guidance on what to look for. First off: Make sure you pick one that fits. Size up if the buttons are pulling, says Lisa Cameron, stylist to celebs like Queer Eye‘s Karamo Brown, and make sure you have enough length to cover your stomach if you raise your arms up. But don’t go too baggy—a trimmer polo can accentuate your physique. “If you want to make your arms look a bit bigger,” says stylist Patrick Kenger, “find a polo with some ribbing around the end of the sleeves, which will hug your arms and help them ‘fill out’ the shirt sleeve.”

In addition, try to avoid shirts with lots of branding or big logos. “Keep it clean,” Kenger says.

Hit the Trails in Spring's Best Mountain Biking Gear and Accessories

Stylists agree the polo is a versatile shirt, and you can wear it with quite a few different outfits. For starters, try using it as a replacement for your usual T-shirt.

“One of the best ways I’ve heard it put is that a polo is a gentleman’s T-shirt,” explains Kenger. “If you want to bump things up from the usual T-shirt and jeans outfit, then a polo is a great substitute.”

It also looks great with a suit. You can opt for a monochromatic look by matching your polo with the suit’s color, or go for a complementary color scheme, like a navy suit and pink polo, Cameron advises. You can also try pairing a polo with a bomber jacket, or wearing it with a simple pair of chinos and some sneakers.

Feeling inspired? Here are some of the best new polos to mix up your look this season.

Hill City Athleisure Gear—Active Wear for the Modern Man

Whether you choose to call it “athleisure” or athletic wear, there’s no disputing that hoodies, run pants and shorts are wardrobe staples. Hill City aims to blaze its own path through the segment with an awesome line of versatile tech-wear designed for today’s active man. They’re stylish and comfortable clothes that blur the line between work wear, leisure wear, and sportswear.

“Men’s lives are evolving,” said Noah Palmer, former MLS player and General Manager of Hill City. “We no longer want to dress as either an ‘athlete’ or ‘outdoorsman’ or a ‘businessman’—we are all of those… We don’t want a different look for each aspect of our lives.”

With the unpredictable weather and challenging topography of San Francisco providing a fine testing ground—and a namesake—Hill City’s design team found ways to imbue the technical components of performance clothing into fashionable, comfortable essentials. The line fuses a clean aesthetic with technical innovations that are felt and experienced rather than seen. This approach allows men to purchase fewer, more versatile pieces.

What’s in Hill City?

Hill City launched late last year and is clearly poised to fall in line with popular athleisure brands such as Lululemon and Rhone. Water- and wrinkle-repellent workout shorts and moisture-wicking tee shirts are great for gym, trail, or street. And everyday options like slim fit pants (made with water-repellent fabric), thermal shirt jackets, and sweatshirts are made to go from beach to boardroom without fuss. The styles are clean and minimal, focusing mostly on neutral colors with the occasional pop of white, rust, or red.

Moisture-wicking fabrics, stretch components, subtle (or even hidden) zip pockets, and neutral colors and earth tones make up a stylish and simple but versatile and high-tech line of active gear, marked by sustainable materials and a ton of real-world R&D.

Hill City is a high-performance men’s apparel brand offering technical clothing that transitions seamlessly through the day, from workout to work to weekend. Sign up today for the Hill City newsletter and get $ 20 off your first purchase.

How Cardi B Came to Wear Vintage Mugler at the Grammys

Cardi B on the half shell was the 2019 Grammys’ most unforgettable red-carpet fashion moment, and the star’s stylist Kollin Carter tells WWD the plan for the pop star to wear the vintage 1995-96 Thierry Mugler couture look was months in the making.
The relationship dates back to September, when Carter direct-messaged the Mugler brand on Instagram. “Just the name Thierry Mugler…it was always a dream of mine to get a hold of archive pieces from him. He was one of my favorite designers ever since I fell in love with fashion,” the stylist explained.
One thing led to another and soon, the house’s new creative director Casey Cadwallader was inviting Cardi and her stylist to attend his debut runway show in October during Paris ready-to-wear, and visit the brand archives. “There was one piece I was fighting for and harassing them about constantly, and it was the red-carpet dress,” Carter said of the pink duchess satin and black velvet “Venus” sheath dress and embellished bodysuit. “From the moment I saw it, I knew it was going to be a debatable moment, some people would love it and some people would hate it and that’s everything we’re about when it comes to

The Best Fall Colognes and Scents You’ll Want to Wear All Year Long

As the weather gets cooler, the scents get warmer. That’s the tradition, anyway: Fall fragrances are known for woody, spicy, or amber notes. Whereas warm weather scents have a fresh, floral lift, fall ones lean more heavily into the cold category, preparing us for the deep and musky tones of winter. The best thing about these transitional colognes and fragrances for fall is that many can work all year long.

If you’re in the market for a seasonal fragrance with subtle warm notes, or if you’re hunting for a year-round scent, consider these options. Some are brand new, some recently revived, and some are longstanding consumer favorites. All of them, however, are the best colognes you can sport this season.

4 Can’t-Live-Without Grooming Products You Should Add to Your Routine

Arquiste Parfumeur Sydney Rock Pool

Arquiste first released this as a limited edition, but its popularity demanded a fulltime feature. All of the brand’s fragrances summon a setting of the senses. This is one of Arquiste’s most modern takes: 2016, Sydney, golden hour in the sandstone surf. The result is something warm, but expansive—almost like a blissful summer. Best of all, that means you don’t need to put it aside until next fall and winter, either: With Sydney Rock Pool, there’s year-round warmth in orbit.

Blueprint 203

Chances are you already know about Dollar Shave Club’s shaving products. Now the company wants to help you smell really damn good. With its bottle of Blueprint, the brand is venturing into colognes, with two different sets: The 100 “Fresh” trio, and the 200 “Warm” trio. We like Blueprint Warm 203, with its blend of golden musk, vetiver, and sandalwood. It’s a little fresh, like the rest of the white-label collection, but this blue bottle creates a darker, more masculine effect despite its clean first impression.

Le Labo Thé Noir 29 Solid

All of Le Labo’s scents are solid in that they’re really good. But some of them are also literally solid, as is the case with this Thé Noir capsule. Thé Noir starts with lighter notes like bergamot and fig, it graduates into a base of arguably the best-smelling things in the world (cedar wood, musk, and vetiver) to create a perfect fall balance. Best of all, it’s TSA-friendly, easy to tote in your dopp kit or work bag, and just as easy to apply (rub a sliver of it on your pulse points, or even on your mustache).

Fulton & Roark Ltd. Reserve #6 Perpetua

Speaking of solids, the same goes for Fulton & Roark’s excellent assortment of pocket-size, travel-friendly tins. The newest limited edition run has landed in time for fall: Go for Perpetua and you’ll smell like a mix of cedarwood and mahogany, balanced with bergamot, jasmine, and other notes. Amber seals the deal, preserving Perpetua as a cold-weather classic—one you have to get this year, before the limited supply runs out.

[$ 60; fultonandroark.com]

Azzaro Chrome

So you want the crispness of bergamot and the sharpness of musk? Consider Azzaro Chrome. The bright blue bottle evokes summer days—a warmth you’ll appreciate as you navigate the plunging temperatures this fall and winter.

[$ 87 for a 3.4oz bottle; azzaro.com]

Dior Sauvage Eau de Parfum

While Sauvage Eau de Parfum opens with bergamot and fresh lavender, it’s rounded out with Sichuan pepper, star anise, nutmeg, and vanilla. When discussing the balance of these tones, experts reference the warm notes getting depth by the addition of fresher, cleaner ingredients. In the case of Sauvage EdC, it’s truly the most balanced of the lot and great for every season, but these spicy notes make autumn its sweet spot.

Calvin Klein Eternity for Men

Nobody does mass appeal like CK, and the brand’s Eternity for Men continues to be a bestseller year round. Now’s the best time to wear it, too: It envelops you with herbal, floral, and citrus top notes, but persists with much deeper tones of rosewood, sandalwood, vetiver, and amber. You might just want to wear it for eternity.

[$ 64; calvinklein.com]

DedCool Series 2 Red (Dakota)

The latest launch from SoCal scentmaker DedCool, Series 2 is a lineup of scents that can weather any season. The best for fall is Red (Dakota), with a woody and amber heart bookended by fresh gardenias, crisp clementines, and sweet wild berries. As a born-and-raised Dakotan, I can tell you that this one deserves its name: It’s as warm and hospitable as the autumnal prairie.

[$ 130; dedcool.com]

Coach Platinum

A premium blend of ingredients makes Platinum a real original: It mixes tonka beans, cashmeran, juniper berries, sage, geranium, pineapple, leather, black pepper, sandalwood, and patchouli. It’s a perfect nighttime scent for a dinner date or black-tie affair.

[$ 92; coach.com]

VIRTU Vince Camuto

VIRTU debuted this fall with warm notes to commemorate the season: crushed peppercorn, Haitian vetiver, fresh tree moss, Tuscan leather, cedar, and Indian sandalwood. The blend has a crisp complexity to it, though. It’s curiously cool despite its fuller recipe, with fresh notes of Turkish cardamom and papyrus rounding out the top layer. And the leather-wrapped bottle is as much a part of the sensory experience as the liquid inside.

[$ 80; vincecamuto.com]

Hugo Boss BOSS The Scent

BOSS isn’t shy about this bottle. It’s seductive and sensual, so dab some on before your next date for an enticing scent. You’ll get spicy ginger deepened with the addition of exotic maninka fruit and finished with leather base notes—a recipe for a great night.

[$ 87; hugoboss.com]

Louis Vuitton L’Immensité

One of five men’s scents launched by Louis Vuitton this year, L’Immendisté isn’t exactly a fall fragrance, but it’s included here to buck tradition. While most seasonal scents evoke a specific mood, L’Immensité was designed to be a limitless scent, one that you can’t attach to any specific occasion. Its fresh blend of ginger and amber finished with grapefruit works in any situation—your girlfriend might even steal this one for herself, too.

CoSTUME NATIONAL Scent Intense

Scent Intense will forever be one of my fall favorites. Anchored by amber, CoSTUME NATIONAL’s best blend combines the broody ingredient with hibiscus, jasmine, and wood notes for a head-turning finish. It’s the kind of fragrance that makes guys stock up on just one bottle and wear it as a signature scent.

Ralph Lauren Polo Supreme Oud

Supreme Oud is supreme in its warming powers: With notes of smoky Indian oud wood, vetiver, cinnamon, and pink pepper, it’s the scent equivalent of sitting around a crackling fire in late autumn, spiked ciders in hand. With its gilded detailing, it belongs on your top shelf—though you should keep it easily accessible since it’s your new secret style weapon.

[$ 125 for 4.2oz bottle; sephora.com]

Montblanc Legend

As good in the spring as it is during fall, this transitional scent balances the fruity, the crisp, and the floral (ingredients like lavender, pineapple, red apple, bergamot, and geranium) with heartier, standout ones like tonka beans, sandalwood, and oak moss. If you’re one to have a different scent with each season, you could save some money and rely on the strength and popularity of Legend on either end of summer and winter.

Band of Outsiders to Relaunch Women’s Wear

LONDON — Band of Outsiders is looking outward and embracing women’s wear once again. The brand’s women’s collection will relaunch during London Fashion Week Men’s in January under a new design team helmed by creative director Angelo Van Mol and brand director Daniel Hettmann.
“People always say they miss the women’s wear aspect and we do have a large women’s following on social media. They were already very interested in the men’s pieces and we had buyers asking for smaller sizes to fit this demand,” said Hettmann in an interview.
While the debut collection will be small with only 27 stockkeeping units, the pieces, according to Van Mol, are statement-making and embody the brand’s workwear aesthetic and the “Outsiders mind-set.”
Van Mol said his inspiration came from the cultural and scientific shift in the late Sixties and from the moon landing. “We wanted to embody that spirit of all these shifts happening in that era, specifically capturing the feeling of those who were watching the moon landing in front of their TVs must have felt,” he said.

EXCLUSIVE: Givenchy to Return to Paris Men’s Wear Calendar in January

DIFFERENT STROKES: At least one major brand is battling the tide of coed shows.
After switching to joint women’s and men’s displays following the arrival of Clare Waight Keller as artistic director in 2017, Givenchy has decided to switch back to the men’s wear fashion calendar for the fall 2019 season, WWD has learned.
The French fashion house will stage a presentation on Jan. 16 during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, before returning to the runway in June, it said in a statement.
Waight Keller, whose coed spring collection was inspired by the gender-fluid style of Swiss writer Annemarie Schwarzenbach, will continue to show women and men side by side in her ready-to-wear and haute couture shows, the brand said. Her campaigns for the house have portrayed both genders in mirror-image pairs.
“Granting men’s wear a dedicated platform starting from January reflects the house’s support of Clare Waight Keller’s vision for the brand,” Givenchy said.
The move comes at a time when a growing number of brands are opting to present women’s and men’s wear at the same time. Celine and Maison Margiela staged their first coed shows this season, while brands including Stella McCartney, Balenciaga, Haider Ackermann and Sonia Rykiel featured models of both sexes

The Best Leather Boots to Wear This Fall

Autumn: It seems like every year this season pops up out of nowhere, tightening its pumpkin spice-flavored grip across the northern hemisphere. But no matter how you slice it, you’re gonna have to gear up those feet with some reliable footwear. And what better way to defend your dogs than leather boots. For the guys who won’t allow rain, snow, sleet, and everything in between stop them in their tracks (or you just want some stylish boots to wear), here are a few of the best leather boots for men to buy this fall.

From chukkas to hard-working and sturdy boots you can take on a hike, these will be able to last you through the wintertime in style. And once you find the right fit for you, don’t forget to wax up and weatherproof your boots.

Technical Style, Coated Canvas, and Sustainable Leather: The Fall Trends You Need to Know

Red Wing Heritage Blacksmith Boots

We’ve said it before, and it won’t be the last time, either: You will want to wear your Red Wing Heritage leather boots everywhere you go, forever. Invest in a pair of its Blacksmith kicks, and you can expect these beauts to last you for years. Pro tip: We recommend going directly to a store to get your boots fitted. If you can’t make it to a physical shop, consider going down a half size so the leather can stretch and mold to your foot.

Thursday Vanguard Boots

Back in 2014, Thursday hit the ground running by offering a huge selection of boots, shoes, briefcases, and belts for the stylish, on-the-go guy. The brand puts a major value on craftsmanship—a quality you can see and feel when slipping into the Vanguard boots. A rendition of American service boots from the 1940s, the Vanguards get hand-stitched here in the States. Melania Trump Says ‘Focus on What I Do, Not What I Wear’

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING: As any politician can attest, setting the stage is essential to an public appearance. While First Lady Melania Trump is once removed in terms of being an elected official, she made today’s visit to Cairo – the finale of a four African nation tour, a cinematic one with a visit to the Pyramids in Ginzi.
Her arrival in Egypt began with some of the ingredients of the standard airport meet-and-greet: Schoolchildren, her fellow First Lady Entissar al-Sisi and a red carpet. But what was the third of four diplomatic entrances this week bordered on silent, according to a press pool. No music played and “very tough security” kept a close eye. In addition, police manned rooftops as the motorcade made its way through the city streets. Although work weeks can reel into Cairo as many as 25 million people, traffic was not an issue, partially due to Saturday being a holiday, the pool said. Media types were advised to leave their electronic devices behind, when the caravan stopped at the presidential palace. There, Trump and Egypt President Abdul Fattah el-Sisi met behind closed doors for under an hour.
Today’s activities included paying a visit to officials at the U.S. Embassy

12 Stylish Swim Trunks You’ll Want to Wear This Summer

The beach is nothing if not a great equalizer. Once you take off your shirt and you’re left with only your swim trunks, everyone knows what’s going on under the hood. And finding the right pair of shorts has never been easier, thanks to more brands designing versatile and stylish trunks that won’t break the bank.

When you’re shopping for new swim trunks, consider a few simple visual tricks: Vertical stripes create the illusion of a longer, leaner frame while horizontal ones (as well as bold patterns) can appear to add bulk. Stick with dark, slimming solids if you have thicker, muscular legs. If your legs are on the smaller side, steer clear of short inseams. These work best for average-height and smaller guys who need to show more skin to look longer. More focused on style? “Navy looks great on everyone and goes with just about everything, and red has been the standard for lifeguards on both coasts since the 1960s,” says Bill Carney, director of apparel at iconic board short brand, Birdwell. “Camo is a style staple that can be worn every summer.”

Whether you want to spend $ 35 or have a little room in your budget, here are a dozen stylish, affordable swim trunks you’ll want to rock in the sun this summer.

Outerknown Apex Trunk By Kelly Slater

We’re not saying your swimwear can make you handle waves like a pro surfer, but these trunks certainly stand up to any swells the ocean throws your way. The durable and lightweight material made from recycled plastic bottles not only offers the comfort of 4-way stretch, but it’s also water resistant, so drying time is minimal once you make it back to shore.

[$ 145; outerknown.com]

Patagonia Wavefarer Standup Shorts

Your bag just a got a lot lighter. No need to bring extra shorts when you can wear these quick-drying swim shorts all day. Made from recycled nylon, they’re the ideal piece to transition from beach to barbecue, and the 50+ UPF protection means you don’t have to obsess over sunscreen if you’re too busy having a good time.

[$ 69; patagonia.com]

Birdwell 310 Board Shorts

You can’t go wrong with these OG surf shorts from the Santa Ana, CA, brand that have been worn by lifeguards and surfers for more than 50 years. The tab closure offers freedom to adjust the fit, nylon offers performance, and the classic camo print actually stands out—in the best sort of way—on the sand.

[$ 79; birdwell.com]

Bonobos Banzai Trunk

Certain patterns can look a little too precious for the pool. Anchors and flamingos, we’re talking to you. But small geometric shapes like these give off a retro vibe and have a cool factor that doesn’t fade.

[$ 88; bonobos.com]

Faherty Brand All Day Short

Consider this pair of shorts the closest a piece of apparel can get to a deep breath of sea air. We appreciate the Zen feels of this laid-back brand known for sun-faded colors like this. Rendered in a soft, stretchy technical fabric—and in a length that hits a few inches above the knee—just add a cotton button front shirt and wear this tailored trunk well after the sun goes down.

[$ 98; fahertybrand.com]

Vouri Equator Boardshort

If you’ve got an active day ahead of you, these board shorts can take you from your a.m. workout session to a late afternoon swim. The stretchy, anti-odor, and fast-drying fabric keeps you feeling comfortable and prepared for whatever adventures come your way—even if that is just early morning yoga.

[$ 69; vuoriclothing.com]

Tommy Hilfiger Solid Mid-Length Swim Trunk

Sometimes it’s good to keep it simple. These classic drawstring navy trunks are straightforward, so they’ll go with every color in your closet—from patterns and prints to brighter summer colors—after you dry off. The slightly shorter inseam is just right for average height-and-under guys.

[$ 60; usa.tommy.com]

Orlebar Brown Bulldog Sport

Along with sunscreen, consider these sophisticated shorts your tropical vacation must. The small pattern, which works for any body type, will stand out when you’re spiking a volleyball on the beach or sipping a frozen drink at the bar. Add a solid black polo when you want to explore after dark.

[$ 195; orlebarbrown.com]

Nautica Performance Quick-Dry Swim Shorts

You can’t go wrong with these simple and classic cinched waistband shorts. The bright color is the perfect match for that post-vacation tan you’ve been working on, too.

[$ 40; nautica.com]

Saturdays NYC x Mr. Porter Colin Boardshort

We like these shorts because the subtle pattern is tonal, so from far away you might not even know there is one until you get closer. The tailored, streamlined fit with only a single back pocket is flattering on everybody.

LL Bean Classic Supplex Sports Short

Nothing beats a classic performance trunk like this one. Made with breathable performance fabric in UPF 50+, it has all of the attributes you’d want: reliable, versatile, protective, and comfortable in almost any situation.

Ralph Lauren Monaco Striped Trunk

Nautical looks are a perennial go-to for guys looking to lighten up their summer style. The horizontal stripes that create the illusion of width are good news for narrow or slimmer frames. The bottom line: They’ll never go out of style.

5 Lightweight Sneakers for When You Can’t Wear Sandals This Summer

Ditch the overengineered running shoes. These light, comfortable sneakers are perfect for lazy summer activities—and can be crushed between beach reads in your weekend travel bag.

8 Colorful Pairs of Spring Chinos, and How to Wear Them

1. Tretorn x Andre 3000 Benjamin Overdyed Nylite

These retro canvas sneaks are reborn, with help from the rapper of “So Fresh, So Clean” fame. Seems appropriate: The Nylites are both, thanks to an uncluttered canvas upper with a single crisp painted logo.

[$ 110; eastdane.com]

2. Chuck Taylor All Star Perforated Low Top

A classic, updated for hot summer days. Diamond-shaped cutouts bedeck the cowhide-suede uppers of these low-top Chucks. They don’t just look cool—they keep your feet cooler, too.

[$ 120; converse.com]

3. Phil Lace

The suede-and-canvas Phil features a casual easy look, but it’s sneakily capable should you want to wander off the sidewalk. The low-profile but high- traction outsole and a sweat-wicking upper lend an assist in long after-work rambles.

[$ 100; forsake.com]

4. Deerupt

They look dropped from space, but the Deerupts have roots on Earth: The grid motif comes from Adidas’ 1980s running shoes. Here the mesh gives its stretchy upper a socklike fit. A bonus: That upper crushes down to minimize luggage space.

[$ 100; adidas.com]

5. Nohea Moku

Water-ready shoes tend to be homely; not so with these, which can go from the office to an impromptu after-work paddle. The quick-drying fabric upper keeps a low profile, while drainage ports and siping in the outsole provide grip on wet surfaces.

Transparent frames have never looked better, thanks to brands turning out see-through sunglasses styles in classic shapes.

Top 10 High-Performance Sports Sunglasses

Here are five of our favorite pairs of summer 2018.

The Best Sunglasses to Highlight Your Face Shape and Personal Style

1. Elston by State

The brown hue of both the frame and lenses splits the difference between crystal clear glasses and traditional tortoiseshell, so they’re a subtle but standout take on the transparent look.

2. Walker by Saturdays NYC

Handcrafted in Japan from Italian acetate, this frame features thicker temples and a straight brow, which gives it an angular look perfect for guys with rounder faces.

[$ 295; saturdaysnyc.com]

3. Parkhurst by Raen

This unisex design with a flat profile has seven strong barrel hinges in each temple, meaning it can withstand the beating of a day at the beach. Its acetate frame changes from tortoiseshell to clear and sleek.

4. Lemtosh by Moscot

Jeff Goldblum and Truman Capote both wore the Lemtosh in opaque styles, but the clear version with bottle-green lenses works just as well for us less famous dudes. The frame comes in different width sizes and in bold hues like sage and tobacco.

[$ 290; moscot.com]

5. Grayson by Garrett Leight

This slightly oversize frame features stylish blue lenses and a high keyhole bridge. But the anti-reflective coating and ultraviolet protection make this pair a great combination of form and function.

How to Wear Indigo, the Coolest Color You Can Get Right Now

Brands are going back to basics and using genuine indigo dyes for a colorful look that improves with age. As clothes have become less expensive and demand for denim has grown, synthetic blue dyes have almost overtaken the 6,000-year-old practice of using natural indigo. But designers are rediscovering the nuances of this plant-based pigment. It doesn’t just produce the deep, dark shade applied to selvedge jeans and pieces like Raleigh Denim Workshop’s striped chore coat: When aged properly, the living colorant can produce the palest shades of sky blue, seen here on Faherty’s striped T-shirt and Levi’s Made & Crafted’s soft, light Henley.

The Best Scents for Men to Wear this Winter

There’s a reason you still wear the same cologne you splashed on for your college semi-formal. Sure, there’s the possibility that the scent your older brother told you to get at 19 is perfect and the only one you’ll ever wear. But there’s also the possibility that it’s just easier than dealing with the alternative. The world of fragrance is vast and confusing and, okay, mildly intimidating when you can’t pronounce half the ingredients and don’t exactly know what a fragrance that uses cardamom to “echo into the wilderness of your masculinity” actually smells like.

Bruce Oldfield, British Couturier, Unveils Custom-Made Women’s Wear Capsule Collection

A COUTURIER’S CAPSULE: British couturier Bruce Oldfield is launching a capsule collection of custom-made women’s wear and accessories that is “more commercial” but aimed to please his high net worth clients.
Oldfield, who has designed for the likes for Princess Diana, said due to the rising prices over the last few years — and the decreased value of the pound — he has lost some clientele not because they can’t afford to, but opted to book a holiday instead. “It’s redressing the balance slightly,” said Oldfield. “It’s very easy to do custom-made. I don’t have to make a collection or build stock — which suits me. I’m a small self-owned brand. It’s really just offering something to that customer that I know is there — at a more affordable price.”
The custom-made collection is a capsule that consists of gowns, day dresses, skirts, blouses, jackets alongside accessories including bags, stoles and scarves. While Oldfield omitted placing embellishments on apparel, he developed a new embroidery on accessories, which he employed on a stole as seen in a silk velvet stole appliquéd onto Chantilly lace.
“When I first started, my first job was in New York at Henri Bendel,” said Oldfield. “I love that American sensibility.

What the Most Stylish Women Wear to Work: Jewelry Designer Jennifer Fisher

jennifer fisher 9 to 5

While plenty of celebrities (Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kim Kardashian West, to name a few) and other women in the know have clamored to dot their lobes, wrap their wrists, and clasp their necks with the covetable and edgy jewelry of Jennifer Fisher since the line’s inception in 2005, it’s also the designer’s enviable personal style that has piqued plenty of attention. As sculptural and experimental as her own statement-piece jewelry, the 2012 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist and working mom documents all on her lively Instagram feed, including her rotating inventory of outfits as she navigates the whirlwind schedule of manning her New York City–based showroom and stores. With a shock of color, a play on proportion and pattern, plenty of wit, and a stack of her own rings, Fisher shows her slew of followers that, just as with her own accessories, she’s all about the details.

But as the stylist turned jewelry designer recently explained, it’s all about a great base of denim and heels that gets her through a hard day of work and to any of the events she attends afterward. Here, Fisher reveals her favorite blues, why Fashion Week allows her to really experiment with her style, and how her jewelry dictates her workday ensembles.

The Charm of the Jewelry Business
Becoming a jewelry designer was not planned. After being a stylist for more than 10 years I was used to making custom pieces for clients when I could not find what they wanted, or I wanted, in the market. After the birth of my son Shane I scoured every high-end designer store to find the perfect piece of jewelry to wear to represent my son, and when I couldn’t find what I was looking for I went out and made my own. At the time, I was working on set and the response was so incredible that I started making similar pieces for friends and family. There was so much demand for my charm necklace that I started my own website selling the charms, necklaces, and bracelets directly from my bedroom, filling orders whenever I was not on set. It turned out there were thousands of women and men looking for the same bespoke pieces of fine jewelry and my business was born.

Daily Routine
My typical workday begins after I drop my children off at school and I’m usually in the office by 9:00 a.m., unless there is an out-of-office meeting. My day is a mix of different responsibilities. I am always working with my in-house PR team on what items are being pulled for certain celebrities and magazines. I always weigh in on the pulls. Because of my earlier career, I am familiar with what stylists need on set, so I like to always add a few extra pieces in the mix. Then there is a production meeting so I can be updated on the status of my designs for outside projects, collaborations, and, of course, planning for the next season.

I always like to pop into the store space during client appointments to see what people are buying and what they would like to see added to the line—it’s the best way to gauge the marketplace and what direction we should be leaning in for the next season. I always try to design for at least two hours a day. We have many more pieces per season because of the brass and the fine line, so it’s necessary to keep up on both collections. These days I am attending dinners or events most nights, but I always run home after work to see my kids before I go out. I’m an avid cook, so I make most dinners for them and it gives us some time to spend together before I have to dash.

It’s All About That Bling-Bling
My workwear definitely changed with careers, but the shift was seamless. I have always been informal in dressing down designer pieces for day to night, so my wardrobe hasn’t changed much except I was a bit more L.A. when I started—now it’s moved into a more minimal New York feel. I always base my look off of the jewelry I want to wear for the day or night and go from there. I have noticed that over the last few seasons I have started to pull away from piling on so much jewelry, though. Lately I’m favoring one statement cuff and one finger stacked with multiple rings over a ton of jewelry everywhere.

I always rotate the fine jewelry I wear on a daily basis; for instance, I am constantly readjusting my signature charms onto different length chains. However, my go-to earrings are our diamond pin front and back earrings; they’re my favorite update to the daily diamond stud. I am also never without a stack of my customized burnished cuffs. I love to mix the fine jewelry with the brass jewelry. I’m loving the idea of the single statement earring right now, specifically my silver-plated brass version, as well as my Chaos collection from Spring 2016. One earring worn with an earcuff on the opposite ear and one finger with multiple stacked rings stacked is my favorite evening look right now.

A Denim Girl at Heart (and Work)
I love denim, so most days it’s denim for me, which ranges from either my favorite hand-painted pair from Trico Field to my long-cuffed wide-leg Chloé jeans to my high-waisted Gucci with gold military buttons, or my favorite Frame Denim Le Garcon high-waisted flares. I elevate them by wearing a Gucci or Chloé silk blouse. Adding one of those and a heel instantly changes the look and lets me go from day to night. I bought an amazing J.W.Anderson black-and-white velvet top, as well as a silver metallic top—these are my current two favorites for going out. With a pop of color from my new Loewe orange red wristlet, I’m good to go!

I’ve been adding knits from Tome and a red marketed knit from Balenciaga, which is my current fall favorite. I like knits that are chunky yet structured, which can sometimes be hard to find. I love this new Mira Mikati coat that the designer gifted me in Paris—it’s the perfect gray-green coat that has Hello and OMG in felt in multiple colors; it matches everything. I also purchased a few new Sacai jackets. I am a collector of Sacai—basically, anything Sacai goes in my closet. My jackets range from puffy bombers to leather and cotton army green swing coats. Also, The Row for simple black dresses, and Dries Van Noten and Marni for prints.

The Shoes, the Bags
I am never a flats girl—it’s just not my thing. If I have early meetings I will leave my house in heels and throw a pair of sneakers in my bag. For heels it’s all about Loewe, Céline, Chloé, and Vetements for fall. I just got the Loewe Column Ring ankle boots with the gray, white, and blue–striped toe and they are so comfortable and work day to night. I also keep a pair of Céline slides under my desk that are my work “slippers.” No matter what I’m wearing I always throw those on and off during the workday. I hate being formal at my desk, so changing is always a must. Sometimes I change in and out of an outfit a couple of times a day so I don’t have to sit in it! I have my own closet in the office that I hang everything in.

I always have a cross-body bag on me: It makes everything easier for days when I am on the move from morning until night. I have multiple colors of the Céline Cabas tote that I throw my laptop in, along with anything I need for the day. Right now, I’m loving the bright blue version. My new favorite is a Louis Vuitton that I picked up during Paris Fashion Week with silver hardware. I also keep multiple Edie Parker clutches at work—they double as bookshelf art for my office.

Beauty Lewks
In case I need to go to an impromptu dinner or event, I keep an extra cocktail dress and multiple pairs of shoes at the office! I also keep an extra set of all my makeup, plus a few good red lip options and beauty cleansing products at my office. Otherwise, my work beauty look is always clean and minimal. I use Chantecaille tinted moisturizer daily and Tatcha eye gel masks, regardless if I’ve been out the previous night. I hate the feeling of foundation or makeup on my skin while working, so my morning routine is very basic. Moisturizer, brows, done! I have eyelash extensions, which make you look more bright and awake instantly.

The Weekend Chill
I’m with my children all weekend shuffling them to their soccer and basketball games, so I need to be mobile. I tend to stick to sneakers during the day, wearing my Alexander McQueen version of the Stan Smiths, or the Adidas Originals I customized with gold backs. I love to use the weekends to experiment with fun sunglasses as they are one of my favorite accessories. Currently I have three pairs in rotation: my Illesteva collaboration Holly frames, Loewe, or the Céline bright orange red frames. Of course.

Fashion Week Is Another Story Altogether
Fashion Week is a time to play with clothing that I might not normally think of mixing. I always have a rack that I keep out in my dressing room with a week’s worth of options. I love to pull out old favorites and use new pieces: It’s almost like the “no fear” week and anything goes. Plus it’s a great excuse to purchase a few new pieces! I also always like to wear a beanie during Fashion Week—my favorites are from Marc Jacobs. I buy all the colors every season and even double up on a few of my favorites—inevitably one goes missing in a taxi or an Uber! I attended Spring 2016 London Fashion Week as an ambassador for Net-a-Porter’s The Net Set. As the only designer who is a member of their Style Council I was thrilled to have the opportunity to experience the collections in this way; I found the shows there incredibly inspiring. Christopher Kane, Emilia Wickstead, and Erdem were the highlights of the trip and opened me up to wanting to try and wear more floral and take more color risks for spring.

The 18 Best Dark Lipsticks to Wear All Fall Long

If you wear one thing this fall, make it dark lipstick. (OK, maybe wear a coat and boots, too.) Inky plum, deep burgundy, and straight-up black lipsticks won’t keep you warm, but they do look really hot. Here, our favorite shades in every finish: matte, glossy, and high shine.

Happy Fall Trends You Can Actually Wear

I’ve held out as long as I could, but the transitional weather is here and the leaves are threatening to change. With that, I’m forced to retire my strappy sandals, beachy nail polishes and beloved summer handbags, and officially start moving towards fall fashion, even if we’re in that in-between phase of being overly hot one day and chilly the next.

Having just recently prepped and presented fall fashion tips for several book signing events, I realize for the average Jill just how many trends are out there to digest: making sense of it all can be overwhelming. (As if getting everything organized and on schedule this time of year wasn’t work enough! Like my family’s dinner tonight for example.)

Akin to my theory of really loving each piece of clothing that you own and making every accessory work to empower you and make you stand out, here’s a roundup of “happy” fall trends that should make you smile for ease of style or spunk of character or simple wear-ability.

CAPES
Cozy capes are stealing the spotlight when it comes to outerwear. Look for fun closures, slitted sleeves and streamlined pockets.

Even kids can get in on the action with seasonal plaid prints that will make them look dapper, like a mini Sherlock Holmes!

BOHO
Richly layered ensembles were the focus of many designers’ collections, including Alberta Ferretti and Erdem. You can capture the bohemian vibe with an embroidered swing dress and layer with a sweater or jacket.

2015-10-02-1443805340-8837629-RedBorderSwingMidiDress.jpg

MIDI BOOTS
Taller than an ankle boot yet below the knee, the midi is the talk of the season among editors for offering a fresh, new boot silhouette.

2015-10-02-1443805842-3770088-BlackBuckleBootie.jpg

FRINGED…EVERYTHING
Here’s a trend that some write off for only the youthful, but while fringe detailing may be frisky, it can also be subtly elegant. Look for the visual movement and texture it brings to clothing.

2015-10-02-1443805476-8830828-IvoryFringeOpenCardigan.jpg

2015-10-02-1443805514-7217892-GraySouthwestFringeBoot.jpg

FLOPPY HATS
Unlike the knitted caps we’ll need during winter to keep our heads warm, opt for a floppy hat now for the perfect, stylish topper.

2015-10-02-1443805610-9976809-BlackStudWoolFloppyHat.jpg

SLEEK MINIMALISM
For a straightforward look for work or play, a neutral, streamlined dress gets the job done and speaks of quiet luxury.

2015-10-02-1443805654-4144324-CharcoalFitFlareDress.jpg

FAUX FUR
If an entire luxurious, faux fur coat is not your speed, look for trims on cuffs and collars.

2015-10-02-1443805752-3471403-CreamFauxFurJacket.jpg

SUEDE BOOTS
The rich, soft look of suede is back, and while doing so consider boots in an unexpected color to spice up your footwear. You’ll note more stacked and wider heels this season too.

2015-10-02-1443805898-4953883-BurgundySaraniOvertheKneeBoot.jpg

BLACK & WHITE
While an evergreen trend, black-and-white patterns like this houndstooth are simply getting bolder and more defined–almost to the point of looking mod.

Matthew Miller Spotlights Women’s Wear

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY: London men’s wear designer Matthew Miller, who’s known for his considered, conceptually inspired collections, is now giving his women’s designs a sales push.
The designer shows a few women’s looks as part of the men’s collections he presents during London Collections: Men, but for spring, Miller has for the first time produced separate campaign images for his women’s collection, which he will sell at the British Fashion Council’s London showrooms in Paris at the Le Loft venue. The showrooms will run from Sept. 30 through Oct. 7.
Miller said the move came as stores were “chasing us for sales appointments,” for the women’s collection, and the designer noted that women are already buying into the collection.
The men’s and women’s designs have the same starting point, Miller said, with a focus on “innovative fabrication, masculine cuts and…form and texture.” His collections, he said, are always inspired by the idea of “the fundamental beauty that is found in chaos and destruction.”
For spring, the women’s designs include dresses, blazers and shirts in double-bonded cotton and alloy blend that resembles crinkled paper; oversize leather biker jackets, and slim-cut pants.
The designer tapped photographer Joe Harper to shoot the campaign, which spotlights studio-shot images of model

Ellen DeGeneres Talks Plans for Men’s Wear and Furniture for ED Collection

Ellen DeGeneres was very much having a when-worlds-collide moment Thursday night at Bergdorf Goodman as fans bought copies of her new book “Home” and fashion types pieced through her ED collection.
During the course of the night, which included a private dinner, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams were among the other Ellen admirers who filed through the 57th Street store. Appropriately, Friday Pink debuted a new theme song on DeGeneres’ talk show — “Today’s the Day.”
“It’s like a brand new year that I’m kicking into because I’ve been a comedian, I’ve been an actress. I’m a talk show host — that’s easy for me. I can do that in my sleep. This is a whole new challenge. It’s exciting and I’m learning a lot.” DeGeneres said. “As far as managing my time, I love clothing, and I love design, and I love houses. And I love fashion. So it’s not really an effort, it’s more fun.”
Standing beside her wife Portia de Rossi, DeGeneres said getting into fashion was even more of an undertaking than expected. “For sure, because it’s also going to be much bigger than I ever imagined. We just did this deal with Camuto [Group]

Look Chic, Go Crazy: Here’s What to Wear to Burning Man

date night burning man

Reports made the rounds last week that a swarm of biting, flying insects had descended on the arid planes of Black Rock Desert, Nevada, where Burning Man begins this weekend—but guess what? Even a plague-style swarm of coriander-scented winged beetles with a taste for human blood couldn’t dampen the spirits of the dedicated Burners setting up camp. And why would it? Burning Man is glorious! Burning Man is hot passion! Burning Man is a place to let go! Burning Man is a Mad Max–style dune of scrap-metal bricolage-built caravans, concertgoers who hold umbrellas when it’s not even raining, and people who wear bizarre costumes—or people who don’t wear anything at all. It’s a sand-strewn, welcoming oasis for self-expression through art, music, and events like “Polesaw jousting” and endless EDM-centered events lit only by the blur of Day-Glo body paint.

Don’t think you’ve got the guts to be a Burner, to break out of your 9-to-5, shake off that back-to-school stress for one last hurrah, and wear your bandana as underwear? Please, anyone does! Maybe there are finance Burners who can’t get their thrills from watching the Dow rise, and instead opt for scaling a wooden statue in a soda can–crafted skirt! Or those tightly wound Preppy Burners who skip the Sunday rowing club for a shwaggy lesson in Laughter Yoga? Burning Man is a hot plexus of oddities, a breeding ground for flesh-revealing openness and boiling hormones. You should embrace it—maybe even hug it.

So what to wear to the badlands of bizarre? Let your skin breathe—and be comfortable in it. No one really cares what you look like at Burning Man: You could literally be wearing one pastie—anywhere—and that would be okay. So dress for you, and try to break out of your comfort zone. Think about that knit bikini with matching knit sandals that you were too scared to wear in the Hamptons: Hell, accessorize it with a mask! Haven’t found an occasion to wear that bodysuit? Go bare on the bottom and slap on some sky-high heels. Save the covering up for the flight back home. Until then, burn on, you crazy diamond.

Prepare to Wear Fall’s Most Stylish Flats Absolutely Everywhere

This fall, make some space in your closet for the most versatile shoe you'll ever own: the pointed-toe flat. The look is polished enough for a cocktail party, works for the office, and makes for…

Chic Sneaks! Kicks You Can Wear to the Office and Beyond

stylish sneakers

Do you ever have one of those perfect days where, as you head off to work, the air around you glorious and crisp, you really feel like you’re just nailing it, professionally? Or at least, you’re on the cusp of nailing it? Yes, you think, I will get my assignments in two days early. I will grab my career by the horns and I will get that raise. And this is, you’re aware, in large part due to your office look. You stop in front of a reflective storefront window to take it all in, but as you shuffle around in your tote to top up that lipstick—horror! You are stabbed by the point of a dirty vertiginous heel, one that has reared its microbe-slathered head from the depths of your bag. That’s right: You’re wearing commuter shoes.

Back to reality: The commuter sneaker is the Working Girl–era’s dirty little secret, the footwear that will always rain on your parade. It’s dirty. It’s cumbersome. It’s why you can’t carry those cute little minibags, even though you love them. And it’s emotional baggage for your feet. But look! There’s another way: Skip the plastic sacks of high heels and downtrodden soles and opt for a fancy sneaker that you’d actually be proud to be seen in. Men have been getting away with the sneaker-in-cubicle look for years—Silicon Valley CEOs like Steve Jobs and Aaron Levie haven’t let comfort hold them back—why should you?

But this isn’t just about comfort: Chic sneaks are a great way to add a punch of contrast to your outfit. Try highlighting a tailored black suit with blazing red high-tops, or adding a subtle touch of color with a woven design. Have a casual Friday where you can take a creative liberty in the boardroom? Slip on a pair of funky patchworked kicks to go with your loose slacks and blazer. Maybe you have a meeting with the boss? Fit your foot into some sleek black leather low-tops. Whatever you choose, you can navigate the workroom stylishly—and sans the extra baggage. So go ahead: Walk to work this week.

How to Wear Shorts—No Matter What Your Body Type!

Shorts are a pretty basic concept: They have the flexibility of pants and mimic the proportions of skirts. Still, many cringe at the thought of the closet staple as much as Tinder pickup lines…

Move Over, Mom Jeans: Jay Z and Lenny Kravitz Show How to Wear Dad Denim

jay z street style

While the mom jean got a bit of a refresh recently from bold A-listers like Angelina Jolie Pitt, Beyoncé, and Victoria Beckham, fashionable fathers are now getting in on the game. Earlier today, two major musicians took to the streets of New York, demonstrating how dads can still reign cool in denim. Jay Z and Lenny Kravitz opted for slightly differing hues of blue—Kravitz’s has a gray tint—but each managed to make his outfit as singular as his distinctive sound.

Mr. Carter kept things simple in a T-shirt and jeans combo that focused on fit and palette. His tailored top curves just below the waistband to create a longer silhouette, while tan Timbs augment the faded quality of his ensemble. Meanwhile, Kravitz, no stranger to making any sidewalk his own personal runway whether in skinny ensembles from Saint Laurent or Tom Ford for Gucci, went for a similar look with a touch more flair. Kravitz’s striped shirt coordinates with his gray-tinged jeans, but it’s the accessories that liven up things. A weathered tan belt pairs perfectly with sandy, suede Chelsea boots for a modernized take on styles favored by David Bowie and Mick Jagger. Dadbods everywhere, take note: The dad jean has officially arrived.

5 Sweaters You Can Wear at the Beach

There’s a sexy way to beat the chill when the sun goes down, and it’s an oversize, thick-knit sweater. Or better yet, an Irish fisherman’s pullover sweater. Throw it on and you’re basically Marilyn Monroe in Malibu. “Choose chunky cotton knits in neutral colors, like white, stone, camel, or gray,” says stylist Kate Young. Here, five options we love.

Clothes Still At Your Ex’s? Here’s What to Wear to Pick Them Up

date night holding

Congratulations! You are a free woman! Remember? You broke up with your significant other and are now doing amazingly. Nonetheless, there is a constant empty, vacuous pang of sadness, regret, and unhappiness—and it’s brooding in your closet. That rare vintage band tee from Pink Floyd’s 1987 tour in Latvia you used to lounge in? Haven’t seen it lately. Those cherry-red pony hair flatforms you copped at a sample sale? Nowhere to be found. What about those throwback orange tab Levi’s that fit so snugly around your behind? Gone, gone, gone. And where are they all? Well, you’ve left them at your ex’s.

Now what?

You have two options: Either leave your possessions there forever, to rot in eternal bachelordom, under piles of dog hair-ridden and beer-scented laundry. Or, you can return to salvage them with the knowledge that you will have to make eye contact and minimal conversation with someone you once had a full-fledged relationship with. If you are leaning toward the latter, there are two more things to consider: 1) Do I really need to pick those items up? And 2) Do I want to retrieve them simply as an excuse to see my ex?

Picked the second option? Take a hard pass. Chances are the items in question aren’t of any significant sentimental or monetary value. Don’t be the person who claims you need to collect your bodega-bought flip-flops, extra underwear, and a dollar store–purchased, one-strap tank top because, in reality, you want to catch a glimpse of your ex and their new life with a glinting intention of rekindling something. If that’s the case, it’s better letting your stuff burn—don’t barter your dignity for a pair of once-worn Havianas and a glimpse of your past.

But, if you do in fact, really want your things back—and if they are truly worth something—then by all means, go for it—but make sure you look fantastic in the process. The cardinal sartorial rule to remember? Think first-date style: Look as you usually do, but elevated—and, above all, not like you are trying too hard. Skip the circulation-halting, suffocating body-con dresses and NSFW-skin flashes and keep it laid-back and chic. Try a cool silk dress that has a punch of deep contrast paired with low-heeled ankle boots for a quick getaway. Feeling on top of the world? There’s a sleeveless, floral-print dress and leather boots for that. Completely carefree? Throw on a cheery sweater and figure-skimming skinny jeans. And the essential accessories? Pair your look with a large suitcase or box and an Uber with a running meter patiently waiting for you as you smoothly collect your belongings. But most importantly? Make it a point to meet your ex outside rather than inside their home—you want this transaction to be quick, easy, and on your turf. After all, it’s your life and you’re calling the shots now.
